My coworkers and I ate here tonight and everyone is excited to come back tomorrow to try out more dishes! Everyone gave a thumbs up for the original clam chowder. I had the fish and chips, which was fresh. Prices were very affordable!

Most memorable about this bar & grill are the NEW owners whom come out personally to check on your satisfaction on the food and also to chat with you. It's a charming and welcoming place for groups to just relax and enjoy a meal.

this is where I'm coming back to eat when I come to visit my son!  I had their award winning clam chowder which was overflowing my cup.  the place is bright and cheery, the owners are very sweet and personable. It is located right there on the harbor and you can watch the sunset.  there is covered out door seating which makes for the perfect viewing of the ocean harbor.

Yum yum!!! Got chowdaaa bread bowl. Oh my!! It was so good. Creamy and full of clams. Also, the bread bowl was toasted and very good. The pulled pork sandwich was very good. It was a little different for the better in my book. You can taste the smoked meat and the bun was fresh and perfect. Service was great seems like a local spot where everyone has a good time.

Very, very good clam chowder and a terrific shrimp cocktail.  Very attentive service.  The place was full on a week night.  Mostly locals.  Recommend.

The fried mushrooms are fantastic.  The clam chowder has won awards and is great.  The fish and chips are perfect.  Service is outstanding.  We have had dinner here two days in a row.  Planning on coming back tomorrow.

I've traveled all over the country and I always try clam chowder. It's been a goal of mine to find the best clam chowder. This place so far is in the number one slot.

The clam chowder has chunks of clam, not a little slice like a lot of places. It's thick and tasty, not watery at all. If you get the bread bowl the top part that they cut out is sliced down, they put butter on it then heat it up on the stove...so good.

If you sit outside you have a nice view of Brookings/Harbor. Very nice.

Service is pretty quick as well, which is always awesome.

There are signs on the front proclaiming award winning clam chowder for three straight years.  You know what? They are not kidding!  Their chowder is magnificent, tender clams, a bit of bacon, potatoes in tiny cubes swirling in what tastes like cream, the best I've had so far.  Tried their clam strips and their calamari strips too.  Calamari not as thick tender and tasty as The Hungry Clam's, and I think their breading was a bit heavy, detracting from the flavor.  The clam strips were fat and tender with a wonderful flavor, enhanced by their tartar sauce.  Get this, their house wine which was quite good was only $2 a glass and the wine glass was filled almost to the rim!  I take away one star for the breading, otherwise, great food.

Delicious clam chowder. Attentive, friendly service. We traveled all over the U.S. and have had some great clam chowder especially on the east coast.  This place is worth a visit.

I have to say I was a little disappointed after reading all the great reviews. The chowder was OK. The chicken and chips were just gross and the hot wings were tendon-ey. I'm still searching for the best chowder in the area, so I'll be looking elsewhere. Won't be back any time soon.

My husband had the clam chowder and I had the fish and chips.  Both were excellent and just what one expects while visiting the Port of Brookings.  The new owners are very friendly encouraging one to come back.  We are lucky to live in the area, so we will certainly make a point of going back...even when the tourist leave; we will be enjoying clam chowder on a wet cold day in December!

We were never regulars until we met the new owners, Howard and Cindy. They kept what was working well and took it to the next level toward excellence! Now there is a super friendly atmosphere to the yummy food. We love, the Baja fish tacos, and my husband also enjoys the Philly steak sandwich. We're glad H & C are here to give the port of Brookings a destination for dining!

This place has always been a favorite! I had not had the pleasure of trying it out since the new owners but went on this very busy Memorial Day weekend to cure my baja fish taco craving.
I was so happy to see that they still had all my favorite menu items and it was great! I love everything on the menu and their prices are so affordable. I did not meet the new owners, but noticed that Cindy was very present throughout the restaurant and seemed so genuinely happy with customers and the wait staff, it was nice to see her smiling throughout my visit!
    Keep up the great work!

Fish tacos are tasty:)  My wife wanted no mayo on them but the server said no.  I have to agree that the mayo type sauce on them is what makes them so yummy.  Apparently the owner is quite the nazi when it comes to any changes to his culinary deep fried gems.  Also, we sat outside and the service was a bit slow.  Overall it's a great place with a lot of local charm:)

Based on a locals recommendation, I went here solely for the clam chowder which was the winner of the 2009 Oregon Coast Professional Chowder Cook-Off.  The Sporthaven Marina's chowder has also won numerous Oregon Coast Peoples Choice Awards.  I ordered the made from scratch clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl for lunch.  The bread bowl was toasted with the top covered in garlic butter.  The chowder was exceptional creamy, with fresh sweet clams and a hint of bacon.  I concur, it's a top notch clam chowder.  Friendly service at the bar.  If your ever on the beautiful Oregon Coast, near Brookings, I highly recommend you try the award winning clam chowder at Sporthaven Marina.

Came here by word of mouth...apparently they have the best clam chowder. The clam chowder was one of the better ones i have had, but not the best.  One big plus was it was creamy and not watery like some others. Another big (ok really big) plus was the bread bowl! the bread bowl had been toasted which added the perfect finishing touch =)

    The chowder was good, but....

My friend ordered the "fish" tacos, which did not look too pleasing. Apparently they tasted OK, but I'd have to give her the Silver Star just for eating those damn things. I am sure they were OK, but just not pleasing to me.

Yes, the chowder may have won awards and all that, but I'm not just going to eat chowder all day. The rest of the menu has to draw you in as well. On a positive note, the service was great and you would be able to sit out on the open air deck in the summer. But, there is plenty of work that needs to be done before I'll be back.

Five star chowder and unbelievable burgers! Friendly service with attractive service people (cute waitresses). Very laid back atmosphere with good harbor views and fishing equipment available only a few feet from your table. No bad stuff here. It's a standout casual place that you really shouldn't miss. Easy parking and access but best of all is the massive ground chuck with prime rib burger that is held together with a steak knife - for the seriously hungry amongst us.

Best chowder on the coast! Friendly waitstaff.
Casual place - not really the "Bar and Grill" feel inside, but
because the food was good we went for it. Sat outside overlooking
the marina.  They had a couple of good brews on tap.
Had a great lunch here :)

The oysters were crunchy, clam chowder bowl was awesome and the cod baskets were also crunchy and fresh. Service was friendly and fast, tap beer cold and the prices very fair. It was hard to find a good restaurant in this town because people give dairy queen five stars, but this place is worthy of three almost four. Give it a try if in Brookings it's fresh and the beers cold.

I readily admit that I'm 'a local' but not enough of a regular to have anyone here know me. My experiences have been totally different than the negative reviews.
The clam chowder is fantastic. I've made great chowder in the past, but not every time. This stuff really is great - just thick enough, good flavor, chunky, fresh celery, not overly bacony, just all around great. Even better with a little garlic bread or in the bread bowl.

We've had several types of fish & chips, which were all great. The fish tacos and shrimp tacos were also excellent. I even liked the burger I had. I haven't tried anything else, so I can't comment on the alfredo sauce or 'no tomato'. We've had several other places here whose alfredo sauce was bland, thin and flavorless. So, I learned to make my own awesome sauce and have given up on trying it most other places. Also, I like tomatoes.
The waitresses have been fantastic and we haven't had any run-ins with Mad Mike. Anyway, give it a try, particularly if you like clam chowder, fish & chips (oh yeah - they even have sweet potato fries if you want!) or fish or shrimp tacos. They were worth it

I wouldn't have a clue as to what the food is like at the sporthaven, THEY REFUSED     TO SERVE US!!!!!!!!! We went there with a group of 12 well after the lunch rush around 2.  I was understanding about the group not being able to sit together but then we were refused to be even sat separately! Horrible way to run a business. Rude rude rude!!!!

"Winner" 2009 Oregon coast professional chowder cook-off.  So I decided to try it in a sourdough bread bowl.  It was ok.  Not salty which I like.  More clams would have been nice.  Bread was toasted so it had a nice crunchy texture.  But I did not enjoy the crab cakes.  Too salty and deep fried (over done).

The restaurant is located in the back of a bait store.

We were in town visiting friends and saw this place right on the boardwalk. It looked like we could get some good seafood there...but, I'm sorry we ever went in!  My "grilled" fish went straight from freezer to the microwave--ickk. They claimed it was fresh fish, but mine was mushy with freezer burn, and when I went to ask for more water, I saw them cooking the fish in the microwave!!

Apparently, this place is crazy because of the owner/cook. He told my waitress (who was a sweet girl) that I wasn't allowed to NOT have tomato!?!? If you go there for the "award-winning" chowder, which needs salt, go ahead and try to order something with NO tomato just to watch "mad mike" go off. And then try to get your salad to-go with no tomatoes. This guy seemed crazy and I won't be back.

Decided to stop for a bowl of their award winning clam chowder on a lazy rainy Sunday afternoon. The place was packed, I couldn't tell if they were locals or tourist. We got the last table for a late lunch. The clam chowder was better then I remember. I tried the baja fish tacos with a big chunk of grilled fish, a special sauce, and finely shredded cabbage topped with a tomato chunk mayo. YUM! the toddler had an average grilled cheese made with Cheddar and we shared an order of 'pub chips' which were homemade potato chips and nothing Iike any chip I have ever eaten in London. The service today lacked on so many levels. Our sweet server forgot to bring our drinks, people that arrived after us had their food before us, and she forgot to bring us our clam chowder then we had to ask for it after our hot food arrived. SO they lost a star for poor quality service.
