Was in the area for skiing and stopped in on a Sunday night as there weren't many options, what a nice surprise. Â Small town bar feel with some surprisingly upscale food choices mixed in with regular bar food options. Â
Bartender was great, good Bloody Mary's, good beer selection, welcoming vibe for a small-town locals hang out. Â
A very good choice if you are in the area.
The only place on a Sunday to eat - and yes it is a good place for burgers.
There is a couple of pool tables and a rustic interior with wood paneling and two painted nature murals on the wall. The waitress is a bit cold at first and very nice once you chat her up. Everyone thought we were from Seattle... Lol. Ok so we aren't a local, but live close to Chelewah.
So there we were ... on the road ... in the middle of nowhere and desperate for food. I was fiddling with my belt, thinking of how old time explorers sometimes had to resort to belt leather souffle when lost and starving. My girlfriend sat miserably behind the steering wheel, hunger etched upon her face like a cruel tattoo. I realized we had to either stop and find food or surely perish.
And what kind of Yelper would actually DIE of starvation?
Not this one, that's for sure. As we passed through Chewelah I made the bold decision that HERE is where we would make our stand and face hunger head on in a battle of the ages.
Lady luck rode with us as we ended up at Sportsman's Bar and Grill. Not only did they have a nice selection of burgers, but for only something like a dollar more you can upgrage from beef to elk .... and what a tasty upgrade that was! Our burgers were cooked perfectly and accompanied by some downright tasty fries. Sportsman's did not let us down in the drink department either. Their formidable taplist ensured that neither the woman nor myself faced the chance of dehydration.
Sportsman, you stand as a true example of American spirit! Were it not for you, we pair of weary travelers may well have become a new version of the Donner party.
