New owners took over about a year and a half ago. Â Pizza went a little bit downhill, but it's still good. Â Service inside is OK, if you're willing to flag down your server here and there. Â But for takeout pizza or a basic Italian dinner this place is still OK, price is right for what you get, and the establishment is clean. Â They are trying hard to keep the establishment what it was with the other owners and it shows.
Review Source:Stopped here last night for a quick cheap dinner. Â I wound up with a ricotta, mozzarella and spinach calzone. Â My boyfriend got a Gyro (which he said was amazing) and my friend got a chicken parm sub.
My calzone was very good and large enough to take home for lunch the next day. Â (I may have been able to stretch it for three days, but I was particularly hungry!)
Our waitress was nice and helpful and our food arrived fairly quickly. Â I was told by a resident of Stafford Springs that "all the pizza places in town suck", but this place seemed decent. Â Granted, I didn't try their pizza, but I figure a calzone is about as close as you can get!
(They earn extra points for giving me some marinara sauce to take home with my calzone. Â I didn't even have to ask for it, and usually resturants don't think to give you a side of sauce.)
I am told by my resident friends, that Stafford House of Pizza is the best pizza in Stafford Springs. Â This may say a lot, because there's a lot of friggin' Pizza joints in Stafford. Â In fact, it's pretty much like 7 to 10 pizza joints, 2 Chinese places, 1 50's diner, some fast food. Â
Anywho, *I* have not had pizza from the other pizza joints in Stafford, but I did have pizza from THIS pizza joint.
First, it's a cute place. Â It sort of what you want a casual Italian place to look like. Â In fact, it might be exactly what a casual Italian place should look like. Â
The guy behind the counter, it should be noted, is also charming.
It's Greek pizza, and it's good. Â The sauce is salty and sharp, as are the meatballs (we got meatball and mushroom). Â The mushrooms, unfortunately, tasted like they came from a can. Â The cheese was piled on thick and heavy and the dough was good. Â Not my favorite dough ever, but not cardboardy like soem dough can get. Â
It was good enough to eat a second slice.
(P.S. Â They have beer.)
