Not sure where to start, slow to seat and serve. Was almost done when we had to try and find our waitress to have drinks refilled. Â Waitress was super ditzy, she did not know her products and spilled a drink on 2 people in our group. Did not apologize and acted like it was not her fault? Seemed like she was too busy visiting with the locals at other tables. Club sandwich had bacon bits instead of sliced bacon and onion rings were way over cooked. Not the best place in Vidalia! Very mediocre and lacks in professionalism. This was my second visit - will not be going back!
Review Source:We go here pretty often. It can be hard to find a place to park, so be prepared. The food is sometimes a little overpriced (depends on what you order), but it's generally worth it. The selection is good and the portions decent. The free bread is my favorite part. :) Also like the fried mushrooms, and the salads don't disappoint. Husband loves the Steeplechase Chicken. The salad bar could use a little more variety.
Review Source:With limited options in Vidalia, GA, I am thankful for a decent meal here. Â The parking lot on a Tuesday night was nearly full, so at least the locals value this quaint establishment.
My ribs were tender and juicy, though they were probably braised so a distinctive BBQ flavor was lacking.
My green beans were southern style (i.e.cooked until VERY tender and heavily buttered), something I've grown to like over time.
The onion rings could have used a higher onion to batter / coating ratio, but hey, I almost finished them so they couldn't have been all that bad. Â
Service was cordial and competent, although maybe just a hair on the slow side. Â Hey man, this is deep south Georgia. Â Time to relax and enjoy a slower pace. Â ;)
Bottom line, I'll come back here. Â I'll need to try some other things before bumping Steeplechase up to 4 stars. Â For now, I consider it a place worth looking into further.
On many occasions I have hosted birthday parties for my office crew and the service and food is always good. The salad bar is good and has a nice selection. There have been a couple of other restaurant/bistros open up here in the past year and my people wanted to try those. At first they were good but quickly portions and service declined. So, we are back at Steeplechase for our gatherings. I've had dinner at Steeplechase twice and the food is good. Like the other rater said it isn't necessarily memorable but in this locale it is consistent and dependable which is the exception to the rule. So, give it a try for lunch and look for the lunch specials on the back page of the menu with the one trip salad bar, as well as the steaks and salmon for dinner.
Review Source:In Vidalia, there are not a ton of options that aren't fast food. This is a nice locally owned restaurant serving lunch and dinner. They have amazing Potato Soup and you have to have their Vidalia Onion Rings! I enjoy going there for lunch to get half a sandwich and soup. They have weekly specials and you can check out there website at http://www.thechaseison.….
Oh and the cater too!!
This is a locally owned restaurant, which is reason enough for us to want to write about it. It's an attractive establishment serving good food, though nothing extraordinary, in the couple of times we have visited. But if you happen to wind up in Vidalia, you'll find this a dependable dining choice for an evening meal.
The menu encompasses a large selection. Whether you're in a mood for steaks, seafood, chicken, soups, salads or whatever, they seem to haver it covered here. We've eaten many of the dishes and don't have any favorites though we lean toward the various chicken and fish dishes. As with too many restaurants, the kitchen tends top slightly overcook food; both chicken and fish would benefit from a lighter hand. That said, the vegetables have been well prepared, and the bread comes hot. We've heard the steaks are good, but we're not much into red meat, so you're on your own.
Don't mean to sound too lukewarm, but we haven't found anything that really stands out here. By the way, there is a bar attached to the restaurant, so you can enjoy some alcoholic beverages, which is not always the case in many rural Georgia diners. If Yelp allowed half-stars, we've give Steeplechase two and a half rating. It's a pleasant but hardly memorable dining experience.
