Actually TWO great resto's, run by two brothers. On Thursdays and Fridays one brother cooks great Tex Mex. Everything, everything made from scratch down to the salsa. Mole to die for. Even the veggies are remarkably good.  On Saturdays, the other brother does 3-4 dishes of really good contempo American cuisine (e.g. london broil with caramelised onions, salmon in puff pastry with raspberry-caper sauce).  And all for $10-20 per person.  A real  hidden gem.
Review Source:What a great find!
My wife and son and I were looking for some mexican, so I went to Yelp and found Steve's. Steve's? Mexican??? Â oh what the hell, we went anyway based on reviews. But this was a Saturday night, and lo and behold NO MEXICAN food. That is only for Thursdays and Fridays. So dejectedly we asked for the menu, fully expecting the normal Tipp hill pub fare, bar food.
Out came the menu and there were 3 items to chose from. (Another moment of dejection.... but they seemed to be pretty ambitious items!) so we ordered all 3,... Stuffed Flounder, beef tips and pork with apples and currants. All cost $10 including a salad.
Well, were we ever surprised when all 3 were EXCELLENT and,my god, when you do bang for the buck, outstanding.
As other reviewers have said the chef came out to every table and greeted each guest and asked how the food was. (his wife was the waitress, and she made the pecan pie we had for desert, which, was  one of the best pecan pies I have ever had and I am from the south.....please do not tell my Mom)
Bar in the front with sports and good food at an excellent price in the back. We are going back for mexican!
Walk through the American pub streaming with boozed patrons cheering on their favorite teams ... To find 3 tables tucked in the back after you pass a wooden "Beans" sign. With 3 employees and dishes of enormous size (main, 2sides, salad bar, chips and salsa) will leave you stuffed and dripping of saucy concoctions. Grab a beer ($2 for most anything) and you're set for the night.
Great place for a group of 4 or 6 to pile in for the pork carne special (aka smothered burrito) and chicken enchilada!!
This is an amazing find. The food here at "Bean's" is home-cooking mexican food. It has such a great, authentic taste. The cook makes his specials and thats what you should order, he puts a lot of heart into the food and cooks because he loves it.
Its only open Thursday and Friday nights. It's like a damn tasty secret.
Odd little location in the back of a neighborhood bar (Steve's Tavern) Â in a traditionally Irish neighborhood. Â There is a separate entrance on side of building but we walked in through the bar area.
The good:  friendly efficient service and the owner/chef stopped out to check on every table at least once while we were there.  Ingredients were fresh and dishes appeared to be freshly prepared (unlike some other Syracuse area Mexican restaurants that seemingly have dishes pre-made and just microwave them when you order).   Honest ingredients  etc. - all good.
The not-so-great: Â The food seemed really bland to me. Â I don't expect Mexican food to be spicy but these dishes (enchiladas and burritos) appeared or tasted as though they had very little in the way of seasonings.
As I said earlier - the owner and the waitress were terrific and personable and the ingredient quality good. Â I won't hesitate to drop in here for a meal if I'm in the neighborhood but I won't go to the trouble of driving across town for dinner there.
