This sweet gem is nestled in a beautiful part of north central Arkansas next to Greers Ferry Lake. Â My family frequents this hometown restaurant with great regularity due to solid-tasting food, super pleasant service, and absoludicrous desserts. Â Of the eateries in this particular county (this is a rural, Arkansas county, mind you), I put Stringbeanz at the top of the list. Â The food entrees, which vary with seasonality, are reliably good--not great, but definitely good. Â Much is fresh from the owners' farm or other local Arkansas farmers, and true to an Arkansas family diner, the choices are generally southern homestyle good cookin' (chicken fried steak, catfish, meatloaf, hashbrown casserole, salads, burgers, etc), but with some more sophisticated choices thrown in there as well, such as blackened tilapia, marinated chicken, and fresh-butchered steaks. Â
The business is a family affair, and all of the staff are great and personable. Â They know my kids by name and seem to know most of the people that enter their doors. Â
After you've enjoyed your delicious plate and have felt the southern hospitality, then comes the grand finale. Â The pies and cakes are what this place is known for. Â Most pies are chocolate or candy bar-themed (Snickers Pie, Peanut Butter Silk Pie, Chocolate Cheesecake), but she also creates some great traditional cakes, such as her red velvet cake. Â There are a few other nice treats like chocolate chunk cookies, brownies, and cupcakes.
Selection varies daily. Food is very good. Service is very attentive but food delivery can be slow. Prices are a little higher than surrounding area. Steaks are larger than advertised but usually have a lot of fat to trim and sometimes grizzle; however they are very tasty. Fish selection quality varies. Lunch is very good, especially salads. Burgers are just OK.
