The only reason for the 1 star is for the food only. If I was able to give no stars for service, that's what they would be getting. My husband N I just recently moved to Gilroy and have been trying to find a local bar to get a cold beer from, all we received was COLD service. All 3 occasions there were different woman working, I think none of them even had the personality of a fish, including the owner. We will not be back!!!
Review Source:Overly expensive for food that really wasn't all that good. Been there a few times for sharks games and its nice that you can throw your peanut shells on the ground.
The wait for food was also really long, but being there for a sharks game, I didn't mind. Â If I wasn't going here to watch sports I wouldn't.
Me and my wife came in the other day to eat lunch and watch the giants game. We sat at the bar for 15 min without any acknowledgment from the bartender. She moved around slowly and conversed with other patrons instead. She then proceeds to to pour 3 huge shots of tequila. So I try to make eye contact with he to let her know that we want service but, she just ignores us. She then then take the shots of tequila to the 2 guys at the end of the bar and take a shot with them. Me and my wife were felt very ignored and unwelcome in the establishment. The bartender was a older woman with red hair. We have been here plenty of times when the owner and his wife are working and have had a pleasant time, but after this embarrassing visit I don't we will ever go back.
Review Source:I mostly come here to watch sharks/giants games. Although hearing them isn't always easy depending on day of the week and amount of people. It's been pretty busy lately.
The nachos add some grilled chicken are tasty!
I drink Roy Rodgers and the sharkie shooters are worth a shot once (punny)
They have some beers on tap not a whole lot. It's a sports bar and it's good at that. Prices are just average
This place is overlooked when it comes to "curbing your appetite and cravings" they recently did a few upgrades to the look and menu..today I had a new item-the fire habanero burger with quacamole and pep jack cheese. Yumm! Def had a nice mild perspiring kick to it..the habenero was spread on like a minced paste. I chose sweet potato fries w it. My bf had the classic cheeseburger(always consistently good!) A+ on the upgrades John! We will be back!
Review Source:Fun place with lots of regulars and cool employees! My husband and friend had come here before but it was my first time. My friend ordered the Habanero burger and forgot, thinking it was a Jalapeno burger! Â Goodtimes!
My burger was really good and so were the fries. The waitress kept the drinks coming and the owner kept refilling our water. They seem to have a lot of fun there, but always put the customers first. I told my husband I wanted to get a job there. They looked that relaxed!
So I brought my family here after their BIG remodel, I'm sure there was more done than I'm seeing - and yes everything costs more I know... But big remodel? Not seeing it. Few new bunk tables which have really hard seats ( beware) Â - floors are now stained concrete, tiles were removed. My big complaint had been the bathroom - seems to always be my peeve - happy to say its been redone. I was hoping that the chairs and chair pads would be repaired, sadly no. Food as always is good. I do think food is a bit pricey - sodas are $2.50 but all that said service was fine too. Just a bit more improvements like general paint touch ups better table wipedowns ect.. and this place would have my 5 stars.
Review Source:I'm ready to go back to Stubby's after 1 night! John the owner is so cool and chilled! And guess what? He makes some bomb bloody marys! I'm very picky about those and I was craving for one on a thursday night, so I went ahead and ordered one. I was very hesitant at first and wanted to stick to a good ole beer, but I just had to give it a shot! YUM! Whats also really cool is you can help yourself to some free peanuts and throw the shells on the floor! I love those!!
Next time I'm definitely coming back to try the food and enjoy a couple more drinks!
This place is great! If you looking to have a nice quiet meal then quit being cheap and go to an expensive place where peace and quiet is expected. This place is fun, a bit noisy (lets face it, people cheer for sports), great food, peanuts on the floor, good mixed drink and even better beer and food! I have eaten many things and never anything bad. I could go on and on but this is the place to be to watch your game, grab a good brew and have a good time.
Review Source:This place is decent considering it's in a small town. My bf lives in the area and he took me here for lunch one time. Not a bad place to eat. They have a variety and I wouldn't mind going back but I probably wouldn't suggest it. It's a local place but I'm sure you'll find something that you like.
Review Source:More of a sports bar than grill in my mind. Â It is great to catch a game, have a snack and a drink. Â If you want to eat there you will have to put up with people yellling or talking loud. Â Menu has great choices, but the food lacks in taste unless you get a hamburger. Â Not a place I like to go to eat dinner, I like to hear the person next to me when they talk. Â I also like good food.
Review Source:I went for breakfast recently and the banana pancakes (bananas cooked right in with walnuts on top) are FANTASTIC. Â The breakfast menu isn't that big and the chorizo scramble I had another time wasn't great, so they could probably improve the offering, but those pancakes are one of my favorite sweet breakfasts ever. Â Try them!
Review Source:Stubby's is awesome! Â Usually we go to watch the Sharks games and its an excellent place to go because it's usually filled with fans. Â The menu is vast and has many options, mostly american diner food but also pasta a gyros. Â I am on a low carb diet and unlike most restaurants they have a couple low carb options.
The owner is always there and always friendly and I've had great experiences with the waitresses too. They are always extremely attentive which is awesome.
And of course Stubby's keeps it fun with the Sharkie Shooter for only a dollar whenever the Sharks score a goal.
I also appreciate the owner for always trying to maintain a family friendly environment. There are notes at the tables to keep it family friendly and If people are getting a little rowdy at the bar he will cut them off or ask them to leave.
Great place to catch a game with some friends... Especially during baseball season when we can all "baseball clap" together! It's so nice to sit at a place where you can swing your legs and your feet don't touch the floor!
The food: have the tempura mushroom & artichoke appetizer, you can thank me later... The paninis are OH SO GOOD!
Honestly their food got them to 4 stars, but the service bumped them up to 5
Great place to watch sports games and have a few drinks.
The food is alright nothing too spectacular which is why I recommend that you stick to drinks and the appetizers (nacho plate is good).
Service is pretty good and the owner is a really friendly guy.
The best part is the peanut covered floor; walk in grab a cup of peanuts order a beer and wait for the game to start!
My only complaint is that there is one bathroom for each gender (this becomes a problem when you are drinking).
After recently moving to Gilroy, I needed to find myself my "home bar", which preferably also included a restaurant. Stubby's definitely fit that bill. Â Stubby's is a sports bar that should also fit the bill for any sports fan, what with several widescreen tv's sprinkled around the place and a projector for the high interest games. Â That said, I'm not a sports fan at all, but the atmosphere here is preferable as the staff is fantastic and the other patrons can oft be fun. Â So, for those non-sports fans, so long as you can handle the sounds of the games currently playing, you should be good to go. Â The food is definitely a win and a step above standard bar food and the atmosphere is family friendly (e.g. not just a bar). Â Included on the menu are several salads and a mushroom burger for the health-conscious. Â Definitely 5 stars from me and a place I return to often!
Review Source:Gotta give it up for Stubby's!!
I've been more than a few times & have had good times. The service is really prompt & the nachos/food is the best! The bars in the shape of an L & has a lax-chill vibe to it. Very good spot for sports games & Sunday fun-day. And you can def spend half a day or night here. One of Gilroy's few good bars.
If you don't want to drive to LG, Double D's, Stubby's is the closest Gilroy has to offer. I usually go on Sunday's wearing a football jersey, order a huge breakfest, kickback and watch all the games. The owner John is cool, and he enjoys waiting on the customers. Orange Juice is very suspect, be warned.
Review Source:I have noticed that some of the previous comments stated that Stubby's food was typical bar food. Â NOT! Â I have never been to a bar that offers this type of food...excellent pasta, great ribeye steak,,,,side dishes are nominally priced...Actually the restaurant part of this sports bar could stand alone as a restaurant. Â We go there for the food, and the sports part of it is the negative. Â I prefer to have good food in a quiet atmosphere....that it is not...so if you don't mind that...I suggest you give it a try
Review Source:This is my local bar. I guess I could be considered a semi-regular (but not too regular if you know what I'm sayin'). I even spent Christmas Eve here and played board games with a group of friends and the owner John. It's just a very comfurtable relaxed place to be. You can throw peanuts on the ground and not feel guilty. Tons of TV's to look at which are set mostly to sports, but I'm not a big sports fanatic. Fuse ball. Pool. John and staff are awesome and make you feel at home. Good drink prices, and decent bar food.
I don't require much. Five stars.
We tried Stubby's for the first time for Breakfast. Â What a mistake. Â The omelette was just o.k. and nothing special. Coffee was served with 2% milk which is a definite NO NO. Â I asked if they had cream for the coffee and he said no, like there was someting wrong with me. I asked what was in the country potatoes and he said bell peppers, I asked if it had onions (Good thing I like onions) Â He said No only bell peppers. Â YEP, it came with onions too and absolutely NO Flavor. Â
The place was dirty from the evening before, Surely a shame cause Gilroy could use another breakfast house.
I've gone to Stubby's about five or six times in the past two months, and I give it high marks for just about everything. Â The food is good, the staff is friendly (they'll remember you and what you drink/eat even by the second visit...impressive), and the free peanuts are a nice bonus. Â Some people seem not to like the ambiance, but hey, it's a sports bar. Â People go there to eat, drink, and watch sports. Â It's not an opera. Â The wait staff does a reasonably good job, although there seems to be a common trait to where they tend to forget you're there after it looks like you're done. Â If you're drinking and eating they come around regularly, but when it's check time, they tend to forget about you and you have to flag them down for that. Â That's really the only thing I don't like. Â Oh, and another bonus is the free raffle during Monday Night Football. Â Every customer gets three tickets, and about four or five items are raffled during half-time. Â Overall, I like coming here and will continue to come back. Â If you're looking for a decent place to hang out and watch a game, give Stubby's a shot.
Review Source:I have been  to Stuubby's twice now for breakfast. Â
It looks like a bar, smells like a bar, wtih dirty floors (food and peanut shells all over the floor). Â The cream despensers for your coffee do not work and you end of with milk all over your table. Â The waitress said she forgot to warn me about it.
She used a few napkins to sop it up but they were soaked witnin a second. Â After one pass with the napkins she left the table with thick streaks of milk still there. Â Had to get more napkin myself to clean it up. Â You would think that the owner, knowing the problem with these would replace them.
The food is standard short order cooking with lots of it. Â Same quality as a Denny's.
If they cleaned up the place and provided better service I would rate this a 3 star
Had breakfast here on a weekend....gotta love the portions...great omelets....bizarre being in a bar this early in the morning but the food is worth it. ....Dinner is great too..try the fish and chips..don't forget your cup of peanuts! Love smashing them then throwing the shells on the floor...the kids love it too!
Review Source:Auntie Donna lives around the corner from here... so one day, we went to meet up with friends to have some dranks. Â Yup, dranks. Â Pretty nice selection of brews... I've also been for breakfast and lunch during the weekends... if you don't mind peanuts on the floor and loud sports fans yelling and screaming, this is the place to come. Â Just your typical American bar food type-esque food. Â The servers are super friendly and more than accomodating when you have a question or request.
Review Source:Free peanuts, flat screen TVs to watch your sporting events, and a pool table and a foosball table. Â Pretty much your average sports bar located in a grocery store shopping center plaza. Â Went here after my only binge over at Ninja Sushi located in the same plaza.
I have still yet to collect the $5 I won off a foosball game bet vs. Jon P. at this venue.
Great, friendly place. Â We totally lucked out -- they were open on Easter Sunday when we were looking for a place to eat a burger and watch the Warriors game. Â
The food is definitely not your typical blah pub food. Â It has flavor and uniqueness -- my cheeseburger was served on a sweet roll. Â Our glasses were also never empty. Â It seemed that by the time you had taken four sips of your soda, the waitress was coming over to refill your glass -- honestly, my glass never was less that 3/4 full. Â
A fun, friendly place to watch a game -- high-fives all around when we were leaving after the Warriors won the game. Â We'll certainly be back.
This place has changed names/owners a few times over the years. Â I didn't know that it had recently converted to a Sports Bar.
To make a long story short, my aunt asked me to meet her there for breakfast one day.
The menu has a nice selection of appetizers, pastas, soups, salads, burgers, etc... pretty much a little of everything. (Breakfast too)
I ordered the omelette, not expecting much. Â . Â . Â . Â Jesus Christ! Â When I got my order, it looked like they used 6 eggs to make it. Â It was HUGE! Â The plates alone are humongous. . . and boy do they fill them up. Â I had enough omelette and hash browns to feed two people.
I proceed to dig in and to my surprise, I was in heaven. Â The omelette was excellent. Â Light and fluffy, perfectly cooked with just the right amount of veggies inside. Â I am NOT a big breakfast eater, so actually getting me to EAT an egg is a stretch. Â I enjoy coming here and have come back for a few breakfasts since.
My aunt who frequents this place tells me that all of the food they cook here is good.
There are plenty of TV's to watch whatever is playing at the moment. Â The staff is very friendly. Â They also have a huge tub of peanuts near the bar. Â Every table has empty cups, so you simply take your cup, fill it with peanuts and enjoy, on the house! Â I'm guessing the proper way to dispose of your peanut shells is by throwing them on the floor. Â A majority of the bar floor was covered in them. Â It made the place feel like it was somewhere you could come to unwind.
Love this place and I hope it's here to stay.
