I'm a big fan of ribs and even though I'm not real picky about my food Sublette's title food is disappointing. It's a pretty nice establishment and the rest of the food is pretty good. But the ribs are excessively dry and strangely (at least to me) not actually cooked in any kind of BBQ but instead the sauce is applied later or brought our separate. The service is good and the atmosphere is backwoods old style - pretty fun. But if you are looking for some juicy "Sublette's Ribs" you'll probably be disappointed.
--The place burnt down hours after I posted this review - I hope everyone is ok and the business recovers - My best to the owners!
My neighbors keep insisting on eating here everytime we take them out so I've been here two more times. Â We came for a holiday, breakfast brunch which was quite good, but I was surprised that it cost $16.00 per person which seemed steep. Â It's not like there was mimosa, bloody Marys or steak. Â The most expensive meat was probably roast beef. Â The owner and his children were actually manning the stations in chefs outfits, the buffet tables were overflowing with food and the place was crowded with people eating and waiting for a table so buffets here are a popular event. Â I just don't think the buffet was worth $16.00 per person.
To help my neighbor out when she was preparing a Thanksgiving feast, we came to pick-up take-out for 10 people. Â We waited half an hour, and the total was $68.00 which is great for 10 people. Â I tried the bbq ribs again, and again, I wasn't impressed and don't think the small ribs with more bone than meat was worth $12.00 for a half slab. Â My neighbors were super happy with their tenderloin sandwiches and baked fish. Â If you're on a diet, this place has one entree (the baked fish for $12.00) that I would consider diet friendly. Â I guess it all depends on your taste.
Enjoyed the chx gumbo and good garlic mashed potatoes also....However, the reason this place gets a 2 star is because I have had a better quality of rib meat at a diner before that doesn't "specialize" in ribs. If u are going to incorporate the name of your business after a certain food u had better back it up. Sublettes meat quality did not deliver at all. There was hardly any meat on the bones and the bones were tiny. To add insult to injury a half a slab was 12$! I will go back jst to try something different but I will  never get the ribs again unless they change where they get their meat.
Review Source:Here we go yo! Let's see if the food has gotten any better in 10 years.
Not a fan of the ice tea but the waitress says it IS brewed. Hmm. The ole lady likes it so problem solved, diet coke came quick.
There is tabasco on all the tables so that's at least one positive thing!
Hmm....for not being very busy food is taking forever....
Being atkins ordered the cobb salad w grilled chicken. Very good salad and chuncky blue cheese.
Crawfish alfredo was deemed "good"
Mac n cheese and bacon an cheese fries were dubbed. Good but mac n cheese is to stringy.
Brisket sandwich is "good I ate it all"
Pulled chicken sandwich is "good"
Chicken nuggets are "good"
Maybe a lil better after all these years. We'll have to try again.
Out of brisket! Me and my girlfriend both had our hearts set on it and the dang waitress didnt even bother to let us know. The choppped chicken sandwich was awesome though so I didnt sulk too long. Â Jacki's pulled pork sandwich was great too. She had the hot bbq sauce which was really just a little peppery and delicious. The potato salad portion could have been a little more generous, but it was in the end plenty as I got to finish jackis and have some of her fries as well as her little sisters breadstick that came with her spaghetti. who orders spaghetti at a bbq restaurant, oh to be young again.
Our waitress was really nice (besides the brisket incident) and was patient with us as we werent ready to order numerous times. it was almost 8 and she was not very busy. Â she messed up with the tea in too many ways to count but was always apologetic and accomodating to fix things.
Great food, service and price. Chicken, spare ribs and pulled pork all juicy and delicious. Didn't like the sauces but didn't need them. Good slaw. Grilled corn a great side. Wonderful Texas toast which I usually don't like. My brother liked the fries but I prefer thinner fries although the outside was fairly crunchy. We were too full for dessert but they looked terrific. Rustic family-friendly ambiance that seemed to combine a lodge, antique shop, and taxidermist. My brother said he would drive the 30 miles from Lafayette to eat here again and I agree it was a nice day trip when combined with the Indiana Beach boardwalk.
Review Source:A booming little business these days - moved to a new snazzy building and is doing well. I actually do not mind eating here - pretty good food. I particularly enjoy their catering services - the pulled pork & bbq meat trays are always a hit. And the service is always fast and friendly.
