There are two things I need to say before I write my review - and don't hate on The NYer but:

    1. I do not like hanging out in the ass-end of New Jersey.  I'm not a shore girl.  I've never gone "down the shore" before. I like New York and all it has to offer.  I'm easily irritated by the jersey folk (not always, but in certain circumstances. I readily admit that I'm byast towards New York and I'm not afraid to say it)
    2. I effn love going to bars with my friends.

THAT being said, I finally relented and went to the shore to visit my old roommate, allowing her 24 hours or so (and I'm talking round trip, so I'm counting the 2 1/2 hours it took me to drive there) to show me why I should like New Jersey.

I won't say that she necessarily accomplished that goal, as you'll later read if you decide to peruse my review of the second bar we went to, however, this place is a trip.

the bartender - if I could retire and work at a bar, that would be me in 40 years.  She's chatty, funny, wears glasses and likes to mess with people, and makes sure everyone's got a drink in their hand.

the beer - cold.  Good for me.  Vodka?  Not the brand I usually drink but after a few wtf cares anyways

karaoke - I dont like singing at bars.  I do like participating in the crowd whilst my friends sing.  and I like being serenaded.  Even if my girls are singing "youre so vain" and shoving my name at the end of each line.  I can dig it.

Bar games?  Well gidditheeffup - again, I dont love playing them, but I LOVE talkin smack and keeping score.

so if you like bars that aren't annoying, with games, low key, normal folks and booze - hit this joint up.  they even found us charming the louder and louder and more obnoxious we got - not that "stop invading my bar" some cats will throw at you if you go to a local joint.

It's a great change of pace to hang out in a laid-back "local" bar after being in Hoboken for so long.

The best thing is that the beer is CHEAP.  2 Yuenglings cost us $3.50.  The food is grilled fare like hamburgers, hot dogs, etc.  It took a little while since only one person was working but it was worth.  Our bartender was also very friendly.

We got nice frosty mugs but my beer was so cold it froze!  The TV is also ancient and the bathroom door didn't lock.  However I can care less about these things in light of the prices and friendly staff.  This is definitely a good place to go if you want to avoid the usual Jersey Shore tourism.

The Good: Frosted mugs and $1.75 Yeunglings. Cheap burgers. Friendly service.

The Bad: Small beer selection. Shots are not cheap.

The Ugly: It's kind if dive-y and dark.

    Would go back.

Big fun at the sudsy mug... If you like interesting locals who love karaoke then you will love the sudsy mug.. So far, this is the best bar we have found around these parts however it's not for everyone... part of our party was not impressed, but my boyfriend and I found it a welcome retreat from the bad shore cover bands and crowds of many of its competitors... and an A+ for the cast of characters
