Sugar suite, you have been good to me :)

I actually like this place now. I first started coming here w/ a really good friend of mine because she lives walking distance from here. At first I really didn't like the scene because it seemed very old and boring. I felt like the life of the party, pretty much. Our loud asses sharing a room w/ a bunch of bikers sitting by the bar drinking their scotch and playing ''library voice'' was not so shabby.

After a few times, I would come on a weekend or Thursday & I must say it's actually pretty fun :) The ages vary, & I like that. I like that they have karaoke nights & the darts are always fun to play too. I just think it's a bit dangerous for the DJ's eye to be all close to the bulls eye. -Although I am exaggerating, he is pretty damn close to the dart area. -Jussssst sayinnnnn'

I like that the jukebox does have some knockers I can fxxk with :D Definitely a chill little spot :) Also, you have Mc Donald's, Jug Jug, & fresh n' easy right there on the same lot for the drunken munchies :) CONVENIENT!

Just like I like a bar, dark with stiff drinks and some good beer.  They have Arrogant Bastard on tap.  Only time I have seen this.

Bonus Points:  Iron Maiden on the juke box!

I came in with a my other two girlfriends to check out this Dive and it was pretty kool, the bar was full and most of the tables were filled.  Thursday night is either Trivia night or Karaoke because I saw a guy setting up either one.

We sat by the fire place pit and chilled with our drinks.  Our drinks were pretty descent, $14. for two goose & tonic served in a 8 oz glass , so you could just imagine the content of Vodka and  a plus on the calories intake.  I wasn't there to get drunk or tipsy, so I was fine.  We all have a 15 to 20 mins drive home.

Would love to come back to experience karaoke night.

3.5 Stars but I wont dock em.

Your typical neighborhood dive bar- small, dark, comfortable, old school. Nice people, cheap drinks but well made. I would definitely come back, with with at least 2 other people as it was dead as hell.

It doesn't really stand out much to me, as I see it does to others. I'll be back though- why not?

The drinks are here are cheap and delicious.  The music is questionable at times, but it's a chill atmosphere.

The Sugar Suite is a classy cocktail lounge located right off the 118 and Balboa in the new Fresh N Easy complex.

When you enter the bar, you'll notice it's red and black decor, cleanliness, and great staff. The bar is safe and well kept up. You won't find any ripped bar stools or graffiti in the bathrooms here.

There are drink specials listed on the chalkboard and the bartenders all pour a great drink. Ask them to make you their special and they'll come up with something that suites you.

This is a full bar with several beers in bottles and on tap. So if your girl wants a chocolate martini and you want a New Castle on draft, they can make it happen.

Happy hour is from 7-10am and from 4-7pm EVERYDAY. Yay! They have $3 wells and many beers as low as $2.75 during happy hour. They also have bar snacks like beef jerky, chips, nuts, and various other goodies.

There are two dart boards, one coin machine, hotspot, LOTS of TVs and a juke box.

If you're cold, just ask the bartender to turn on the fireplace, and cozy up in the back booth.

This is a good bar for a date night or just to check out something new. Many first timers end up becoming regulars and make a lot of friends here. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays are the busiest nights but usually there are 2-3 people working.

    Karaoke is on Wednesdays/Thusdays

DJ (who does requests) is on Fridays/Saturdays

Although the bartenders mood is worn on their sleeve it does no stop them from pouring a wicked cocktail.

Well I strolled into this place on a weekday evening with a beautiful lady on my arm. (I don't know what force compelled me to go on a date to a strip mall bar in Granada Hills but c'est la vie).

My date and I instantly remarked that we did not feel like we were in L.A. It was like some strange vortex into middle America or something. That's what happens when you venture into the "deep" valley.
The bartender was a woman who appeared to have taken some really gnarly pills before I got there. I mean I want to give her the benefit of the doubt and say she was just drinking a lot of her own product but ... after some soul searching, I really think that there were some other factors in play.

I ordered a Maker's Mark Manhattan (my standard drink) and she gave me a look like I had just ordered a "Sex on the Chocolate Choo Choo Fizz-Slide". I had to explain to her what a Manhattan was. Okay I get it, some places you just shouldn't order a mixed drink (even one with 2 ingredients). Perhaps it was my fault. I switched to beer shortly thereafter. Hard to fuck up a beer.

When my lovely date went to powder her nose in the bathroom (or whatever it is pretty girls do in there), a middle aged lady gave me a look that, without any words, conveyed the sentiment: "hell yeah! You scored with that one, tiger."

Sadly, I did not score that night. Can I blame the Sugar Suite for that? As much as I love a good scape goat, I will place the blame on my own shoulders where it belongs.

If you are stranded in the deep valley and REALLY want to get wasted, Sugar Suite it is!

Essentially this bar could be the bees knees. The decor is pleasing. There is ample seating, at the bar and tables/booths across from it. There is a SWEEEEEEEEET corner c-shaped couch in the back where in the middle there's freestanding fireplace to keep warm at (although when I was there it wasn't lit, and it was COLD that night). The prices are also decent and there's plenty of parking.

But even with the all the amenities the establishment can provide to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome, they can't control the crowd and every element that makes your experience less pleasant.

For us it was the 50 something year old biker crowd. There were maybe 3 women in the place, until 11p.m. (when the younger CSUN crowd showed up.). It was a like a redneck family reunion. I'm not joking. It also, for some reason unknown, smelled like sausages and other dried meats in there.

I figured I can ignore the crowd, drink my beer and play some darts with my boyfriend. When the people playing before us finished, they insisted on playing with us. We put 2$ in the machine...... And the 2 drunk guys insisting on playing with us would NOT leave the machine alone. They kept pressing so many buttons it took us almost 10 minutes to start one round. On top of that.... the dart board was malfunctioning and counting points wrong, and all of their darts were BENT.

Sugar Suite, I will try you one more time. But please get some Febreze and fix your dart board. Please. Also, please don't put your dj in front of one of your 2 dart boards making the whole set up awkward again. Please.

    Thanks. :)

went here one morning after work...cant believe theres a bar thats open at 6am!  score!  i dont think im an alcoholic, but working nights makes it hard to find a place to drink at after a hard nights work.  the lady behind the bar was awesome!  even though we were pretty much the only people there at 0630 in the morning, she kept the drinks coming!  i even made her get a new bottle of grey goose from the back because i finished the bottle behind the bar!  :)  but she was more than happy to keep her stock full so i can quench my thirst!  i will definitely go there again so i can get a proper feel of the place.

Good for people watching and the best bloody mary in Granada Hills.

Word to the wise: Stay away from karaoke night. Far, far, far away.

A very casual, dark and retro dive bar, complete with pseudo plush leather booths! I'm bummed now if they've gotten rid of the karaoke though..my only reason for going to bars in the first place!

Otherwise a cool place to hang after work or on the weekends...I saw a sign saying they're open at 6am?? I've yet to try to venture to a bar open that early...can you even drink at that hour in So CA?

Not too keen on the dj when they're there. The type of music played seems a little too modern and out of place for the crowd that I've seen here. They should stick to the standard rock & roll and redneck country, hip hop doesn't fit the atmosphere at all.

I was bummed however, that the last 2 times I asked for a White Russian, they were out of half & half or even a substitute. Luckily they had Blue Moon, but then bartender only had lemons to offer for the beers. Ew.

Stopped in for a drink with my girlie on a Friday night. We had nothing to do so why not?!

We ended up getting 3 drinks in total, 2 jack & sprites and 1 Stella. Came out to $13 or $15. Not bad at all.

They have a DJ that plays a mix of music from Drake to country or something. So don't expect to get in a groove. I'm guessing it's to cater to everyone since they have such a diverse crowd.

Lots of TVs if you don't feel like hitting up Jug Jug for sporting events.

In all, this place is good for meeting up at a local spot with friends and having a few drinks.

Ugh, this bar has a nice relaxing atmosphere. I'm old at heart, I love to drink and relax. This place has darts, something I like to do. I always have a good time here with the people, never any drama no one's measuring your chest sometimes the regulars have a birthday and give out free food.

But the female bartender! Oy vey she's a character, I love the girl but come on after we ordered their HOUSE DRINK like a dozen times you would expect her to learn to make it!!

It's not just her it's all the bartenders! They don't have a clue how to make their own DRINKS!! It's mind boggling, why do they even effin offer house drinks! Customer service sucks, don't hope for them to know how to use their own dart machine God forbid you order a house drinks, I'm just glad they know where the restrooms is located :)

Well the bartenders aren't rude just lazy.

Imagine going to mc donalds and ordering for a big mac and the lady will respond. "i'm sorry we don't know  how to make a Big Mac" *FACE PALM*

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

It's been a while since I've been there and they have new bartenders. Cool people. I never hated the place I just was annoyed when they didn't know how to make their house drinks. Now they just don't offer them and they've remodeled the place.

    I changed it from a 3 to 4.

So, this place used to be my SPOT on Saturday nights. But now, with no Butter and no karaoke, I'm just not that into it. Sure, I'll go down and have a drink or two, but I'm not going to be closing down the bar til last call anymore. It's a shame, but I guess I'll just have to find somewhere else to do my karaoke.

It may not always be my first choice, but it's always an option.
More often than not, Sugar Suite is a good local night out.  Why? It might possibly just be the amazing company I keep.  Since it's local, more friends are willing to come out and stop by.  The people there are also pretty friendly, or maybe I'm just really friendly after a few drinks.   I don't know, dude.  All I have left to say: Yukon Jack.

I love the Suite! They just revamped it with some nice bar stools and TVs. I highly recommend going on Saturday night for the Karaoke. If you live in Granada Hills, this is a great place to finish of weekend night.

If you see someone singing Madonna, it's probably me.

I just wish that there were better bars in the Valley.  I decided to try this place a few months ago.  While it wasnt terrible, it's just really one of those true dive bars.  Not the Hollywood-type dive bar, where it looks seedy and but isn't... it's real dive.  LOL
But, would I go there again?  Yeah... if I didnt feel like driving out of the Valley.

Went here last night.  The crowd was a little shady for my taste, although I was in a bar in Granada Hills at midnight on a Sunday, so I'm not sure what I expected to find.  I like most dive bars, but there was something about this place that just rubbed me the wrong way.

    Oh man......Sugar Suite!!!

Brings back so many memories!!! One of the best dive bars in the SFV. It's a great place to meet friends to start the night or to come here to end it!

I've had so many funny stories from this place just by standing out back of the bar.

Cheap drinks, meet locals (I don't think this is really a good thing), and you can get popcorn while playing Exotic Mega touch.

Sugar Suite is where dive bars got its's name!!

Not that I would ever go that early, but Sugar Suite opens at 6am. That's impressive and disturbing on several levels. Overall, Sugar Suite's got lots of comfortable bar seating, lots of tables, and a great fireplace with circular booth seating around it. Very cozy. My first time in here was fun so I'll for sure go back--most likely at 8am though, because the guys who go at 6am have a real problem. Gail the Thurs/Fri bartender is also very nice.

Sugar Suite is the place where I had my first drink at a bar, mind you I was only 19. I was with a group of friends, and they didn't card any of us. So we sat around and got drunk underage, woo! They didn't seem to care because a few of my friends are regulars...now that I'm 21, I wouldn't pick this place as my first spot to have a drink, but it's also closer than most of the other bars in the area.

Anyway, you walk into this little 80's style bar, pretty tacky, small but in a way slightly quaint. It's a good place to go if you're in the valley and don't want to have to go over the hill for a drink. But it is by no means classy. The place is usually full of 40 somethings singing karaoke to their hearts content, and for that it is pretty entertaining. Drinks are cheap, the bartenders are usually very nice and attentive, and the music isn't blasting so you can sit and talk with friends. Definitely not a place to go to meet people though, unless you are a 40-something that LOVES karaoke!

    Cheers!

    Oh the Sugar Suite. Classic.

I've been here a few times now, first time being on my 21st birthday. We stumbled in around 1 a.m. Everyone knows everyone, and it's the kind of place where you feel like you're part of the family. It's nothing special, and their drink selection doesn't impress, but there's just something about this place that keeps people coming back, year after year.
A couple little old men who i'm sure have been coming here since the day it opened bought me a few drinks to welcome me to the family. It was cute, haha.

It's the only bar worth going to in Granada Hills, and the second you walk in it just feels like such a throwback...but in a good way. I still have yet to play darts here....i was too drunk last time and i probably would have accidentally thrown my dart into some innocent persons' eye. Oh well. Next time. Maybe tonight, actually.

It's walking distance from one of my good friends' houses, so that's really convenient at 3:30a.m. when you realize that no one's okay to drive [safety first, people!].

Anyway, the Sugar Suite has been here forever, and isn't going anywhere anytime soon. So go, order a nice strong Long Island, and get comfortable.

I was in Granada Hills this weekend and we ended up at this place Friday night and back again on Saturday morning.  We were going to grab a cup of joe at Starbucks but I kind of had the shakes from the night before so we said what the hell and walked into Sugar Suite.

It's one of those local bars that has been around forever and everyone seems to know everyone.  They had 21 year old patrons also with some old fogies.

When I walked it my eyes had to totally adjust since it was super bright outside than to walk into a very dark bar.  I told the waitress I need a spicy hot red beer to stop my headache in it's tracks.  Girlfriend hooked me up.  3 drinks later my 3 friends and I never made it to Los Angeles to shop in the alleys.   But we had a great weekend and got our clothes shopping therapy locally.

EDIT on 5/19/2010: The Sugar Suite has gone through a renovation, it has a whole new larger bar with 40" flat panel TV's built in and BEER ON TAP.

Yes fives stars for my favorite local bar for the last 15 years. Great people, music, darts and good times. Please stay away from here if you are trouble.

I like this place the most because it is relaxed and I know most of everyone that hangs out here. This place is for the young and old who are easy going.

Five Stars, 3 for the establishment and 1 for each of Justine's fabulous boobs....just kidding Justine....kinda

I have a love/hate relationship with the Suite.  I guess I love it when I'm there and drunk, but I think I hate it because I love it when I'm there and drunk.  Does that make sense?  I don't know.  It's my local bar and I know everyone there because I've been going there since I was "21".  Please don't come here if you are looking for trouble or act unruly.  Let me have at least one place I can go to relax.
