Clue...the place was empty at dinner time on a holiday weekend.
Avoid the very yukky chicken .... oh I meant teriyaki chicken. Â Dry, salty - could have been on Drake's passage around the Horn. Â The vegetable accompaniment was fair. Â The eggplant whatever had Chef BoyArDont quality red sauce on the pasta.
The eggplant itself was mediocre. Â The merlot was a decent pour and of average quality fo the price. Â Take it from me, drive down 15 minutes to Truckee and you can have real food.
Camping at Cisco Grove, we found ourselves low on alcohol and after about 15 minutes of searching the Internet, I came across their website and decided to make the drive.
Unsure of whether they were still in business or open, we took the gamble which was a good pay off.
The employees were extremely friendly, poured an above average Long Island, and had decent wings. Food was served pretty quickly, and the place was empty.
It was a good place to go and get a few drinks for the afternoon, and also find a general store that sold alcohol.
The nachos are baked after assembly to give the chips (house made I believe) more crunch than you can get from frying alone. The ratio of refried beans to cheese to guacamole to chips is nearly perfect, though occasionally I have had just a hair too little cheese. There is a bit of sour cream there for those who enjoy that sort of thing. There are some slices of jalapeno, pickled I believe. I would prefer raw and probably serranos (spicier), but they don't distract from the experience. I've eaten a lot of nachos. These are top level.
The drinks are what you'd expect at any bar. They can do a number of coffee based sweet ones for after a long day at the hill which is unexpected.
Given my cabin is a mile away, you may think I'm biased (really, there is very little else close to here), but seriously, dropped into the middle of San Francisco and I'd still patronize the place just for the nachos.
Stopped here on Yelp recommendations on a Saturday evening, 02/16/03. Nice interior. Nice pool table. POOR service and even POORER food. The mountain of nachos we ordered as an appetizer were pretty good, but it ended there. My girlfriend ordered the eggplant parmesan, as she loves this. It was made of french fry strips of eggplant with the skin intact. It had no mozzarella cheese and very little parmesan and tasted of bland tomato sauce with a touch of garlic. I ordered the BLTA (bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado) which was advertized as "made with loads of bacon"... wrong! The bread was so hard it cut the roof of my mouth, there was only enough bacon to be able to use it in the name, and the taste was not what you would expect from any restaurant that would have a BLT on the menu. Oh, and the "A"? Ever have a sandwich where the avocado added just oozed out because there was so much and it just can be held between the bread slices? Not here! Here, I didn't even know there was avocado on the sandwich. The best part of my BLTA was the side of fries I had to order SEPARATELY! It was NOT a healthy portion of fries. I read here on Yelp the value was good for the amount of food served. I have to say the opposite. I would welcome McDonald's for service, food, and value compared to this place. If I were going to recommend anything I would say stick with the burgers. Hard to ruin a burger. The service was just as bad. I had to chase down the waitress several times and had to steal silverware for three from an open table after the food was served. Refill of a drink? Forget it!
Review Source:I know the people working here are really good people, trying to make a buck in a place that probably doesn't see much summer traffic, but the food wasn't good and was expensive for what you got.
I had a bad experience, I got a Philly cheese-steak and it was littered with chunks of fat. Really turned me off. Honestly it was enough to be a one and done restaurant for me.
I hope you have nothing but good experiences and this review gets drowned out, but as for me I'm going elsewhere.
Great bar! Their nachos were incredible- layers of goodness throughout. Â They make their own beans and every chip had multiple toppings on it. The hot and spicy wings were also incredible and came with real blue cheese dressing. The servers were friendly and the drinks were en pointe. I highly recommend!
Review Source:Family-owned, perfect for kids, and warm, fuzzy service.
When you've been skiing all day with kids in 30 degrees, you rend to work up a big man's appetite and this happened on our snow day trip with the family.
We ended up here after asking one of the kids who works at Soda Springs where he would go to get a good bite to eat. Kids in tow, and a hankering for some beer on tap, and we were headed to Summit.
Only a mere block away (if that) we parked in the lot which was not crowded for a Saturday night.
Once we were seated, the nicest, warmest, lady came to greet us and our tired, hungry children.
She took our orders and yes, we used our 30% off one entree coupon thanks to Yelp.
2 beers, a side salad, entree, and dinner reminiscing session later, we were done. My son finished his fresh pasta so fast, that our server came back and asked if he wanted more since she could tell he was hungry. Without charging us. Obviously she was a mom and knew the way to my son's heart (and belly.) This was what made my night extra special and fuzzy.
For the area, this is the place to go after spending all day with your kids at Soda Springs. With Log cabin-esque decor, hardwood floors, and bar next door, I have to say this is a two-fer place= Good for families AND good for singles and couples looking to relax with great service and ambiance.
It wasn't that bad. Â Maybe we walked in with low expectations. Â The food was great and servers were nice and attentive. Â Although, service was a bit slow. Â
We had a hawaiian pizza for $14, but it fed one hungry kid and 2 adults. Â To my surprise, the pizza was better than round table. Â French fries were made with real potatoes and were very crunchy and well-seasoned. Â The bill came out cheap. Â I don't have any complaints!! Â The gal kept checking on us! The staffs were super nice!
The service was pretty slow even though it wasn't very crowded; Â apparently their computers were down so I won't go below three stars for what may have been a fluke.
We stopped here on our way to Tahoe after a very long day of snow-chain speed travel. Â We got burgers and philly cheese steaks. Â The food was pretty good but nothing special. If you have to stop somewhere on your travels then there is nothing wrong here (assuming their computers are working) but I wouldn't go out of your way.
The food is ok nothing special but the service is awful.  We have been here over the years and the menu now is a lot simplified  but the service is so bad. They had their daughter working and when we ordered a cab she had no idea what that was. Taco were greasy the salad came after our entres. I know that times can be slow but they need to spend some money and get staff
Review Source:On our drive back from Reno labor day weekend, there was so much traffic... it could have been a mixture of things: car accident, road opening is only one lane, and of course labor day traffic. With traffic it will normally take 3 hours to get to Sacramento, but took 6 hours. Rest stops were backed up, so we decided to stop somewhere else. We had to order something to use their restroom, but wasn't aware they are really slow. We order onion rings to go and it took 15 minutes. If I knew it was going to take that long, I would have order a drink instead.
The onion rings were good, crispy and HOT (maybe b/c we were a little hungry and tired too)
Good prices and a decent menu make this a great place to stop in at if you are hungry and on (or passing through) the Summit. Don't expect two Michelin star food, just a nice meal with a friendly staff. It can be a bit of a wait if a large group shows up or is crowded as they tend to be 'lightly' staffed.
Review Source:In our drive back from Tahoe the honeys stomach began to rumble. "I want food!" It yelled and so we stopped. Enter Summit and their fantastic White bean and bacon soup.
Summit was mostly deserted when we entered, in fact I'm pretty sure our waitress was taking a nap when we came in but we were seated and our orders taken pretty quickly. It was just the food that took forever in getting to us.
The service, while slow was quite friendly and upbeat and our white bean and bacon soup was to die for. OMG yum! The honey's pesto chicken bacon was tasty but my french dip was bland and the au jus didn't help the matter much.
The woman's bathroom was a bit of a surprise because they only had curtains for walls but with the friendly service and the tasty soup we loved our experience at Summit.
We just may have to plan for a return trip next year!
This is by far the best place i've been into.
We ordered Nachos for our appetizer...
AND IT IS THE BOMB!
I probably have tried a million different Nachos ALL OVER THE WORLD,
since i like them so much and I must say..
THAT THIS IS THE BEST among them.
I also had Turkey Melt Sammich! Don't forget the AVOCADO!
And it is the BEST Turkey Melt I have had.
I SWEAR!! I AM NOT EXAGGERATING!
It is made of REAL turkey, and not just the Deli ones.
And the bread is grilled to its perfection.
French fries is home-made too.
No preservatives, No fake flavoring.
ALL REAL POTATOES.
BF had a Reuben Sammich, and it is GOOD as well.
..but i just like my sammich better LOL.
Not much of a beer selection on Tap, but they got a LOOOOT of wines!
Had to give the Chef some Kudos, because it is just such a memorable experience
after a good hike from Lola Montez Trail. :)
GOTTA GIVE IT A TRY!! YOU'LL DEF BE MISSING OUT IF YOU DON'T.
FO'SHO...
They have a 30% off of a second entree just for checking in on Yelp.
I came here for dinner and had an awesome burger with Swiss, sautéed mushrooms and onions. It makes my mouth water just typing this...it was THAT good! It came with a side of fries which were good. I had a nice side salad with blue cheese too.
I also ordered an appetizer of teriyaki chicken wings. They came out looking like they had been stuck in the back of the freezer for the past year. Not very appealing and made everyone nervous to try them for fear of food poisoning. I tried one, it was okay but had that "frozen too long" taste.
Service was friendly and attentive, although a bit slow. The place was packed.
The prices are a little high but it is one of the better places in the area.
I came back for breakfast two days later and had the Joe's special. They forgot the spinach in the Joe's. A pretty big thing to forget. The server was beyond slow. I had to ask for coffee refills 3 times. Food took 30 minutes to arrive.
The morning experience gets 1.5 stars.
Bottom line: Good food, Service is slow.
Stopped by The Summit for take-out on the way back to our cabin. Â We ordered 2 hamburgers and they were really good! Â The restaurant, however, seemed a little disorganized.
They didn't have buns for the hamburgers, so we got the burgers on bread instead. Â They also offered us ketchup for the french fries, but then couldn't find the lids for the take-out ketchup containers. Â I wouldn't want to go here if I had other options, but as a "fast food" option, it was good!
We took a break traveling to Tahoe. Â This place also has a yoga place right next door. Â We ordered pizza with artichokes, ham, and mushrooms plus fish and chips too. Â Service was good and limited menu since it wasn't their normal season. Â This was much better than just getting takeout in busy Truckee.
Review Source:We were coming back from Reno when we hit some traffic along 80. We decided to pull in to the Summit to eat breakfast, since it's the only restaurant sign we saw on the mountain.
Going in at 11am on a Sunday there were only 2 other tables of families there.
The service was really bad. We stood by the "please wait to be seated sign" while the waitress continued to ignore us for at least 5 minutes. Eventually my husband grabbed the menus and we seated ourselves. The waitress never came by to say hi or bring us our waters, nothing.
Eventually we flagged her down to order, in which she said she would be with us in a minute. We shared the Eggs Benedict which took about 20 minutes to come out. Seriously though, this was one of the best eggs benedicts I've ever ordered anywhere. Super crispy/buttery wheat bread, topped with a runny poached egg, and just enough hollandaise sauce to give it flavor, but not overdo it.
I wish the service was better so we could give it more stars.
We had a very bad experience - the place was not crowded, yet the service was worse than terrible, and the food took wayyyyy too long. Â It almost seemed like the bartender was angry that we came in. Â We were going to leave when we met his attitude - and lengthy delay to be seated and delivered menus, but I thought we could change his disposition with kindness - NOPE. Â AND, meals were incorrect - rather than just bring us the garden salad and veggies we ordered (rather than fries), he was going to take our plates back to the kitchen to be made right - yeah, we would have waited another 15 min. for that. Â Also, it was taco night, and they were out of tacos at 7:30pm. Â Doubt we'll ever return.
Review Source:We come for dinner almost every Friday during snow season. Â Maria, the owner, is great and regulars are treated like family. Â Fish and Chips is our favorite but you can't go wrong with the sandwiches, Spicy Blue Salad and the Nachos are fantastic.
Great casual atmosphere means you can wear your snow gear and not feel out of place.
Good place for breakfast or lunch, dinner is so so.
Restaurant and bar it is.... Long bar with a TV and a couple of pool tables sharing the room with the diner. The people here always seem to be friendly and in good spirits. Great place to pull over during the drive up to Reno and relax for a bit. We are in this area quite a bit and I will make it a point to come in during a snow storm to have a beer and watch the travelers.
Main negative point that sticks out is the pasta is oily, OILY!
