I came back today after only being here one other time (9 days ago on a mid-week afternoon), as soon as I walked in the bartender, Matt:
1) greeted me by name
2) asked if I wanted a Guinness (what I was drinking the only other time I have been here)
Take note, businesses: *this* is how you customer-service!!!
Also, the pork bulgogi is AMAZING!!!!!!
5 stars, can't give 'em anything less.
Okay so here is the deal its a friendly neighborhood bar. It's one of those places where many of the customers know each other and everyone is just looking to enjoy themselves.
The food is tasty and the staff is friendly. I tried the chicken potstickers (fried) and I was really happy I did. They are very well made, crispy exterior yet moist & tender chicken inside.
Another thing it's not a hole in the wall. This place is casual but a bit more upper scale, then some of the other bars in the area.
We came here during a weekday around 3 in the evening. There seemed to be only one person taking care of everyone that was there, which wasn't too busy when we were eating. She was very attentive, checking up on is often and took very good care of us. The food was pretty good and the menu selection was very wide, some interesting option as well that i might need to try when we go back. Overall pretty decent.
Review Source:We went in to Sunset to watch the game and have dinner and had to wait a very long time before anybody even acknowledged us being as we weren't "regulars" that they were all talking to. After that the service was pleasant, but the food was terrible. The burger was so salty and tough and had pieces of gristle as if they ground up left over steaks. The patty was only about 1/3" thick and burnt. The other diner had the chicken fried steak that had no flavor, was over cooked and was served with INSTANT mashed potatoes. The gravy was powdered gravy with no seasoning added. I've tried this place with each new name, but I've seen no improvement. It's a shame because it's nice to have a close-by neighborhood Bar and Grille, but I'd rather eat at Whataburger that that.
Review Source:Ok, by the looks of all the recent reviews this one does not agree with them. As you can see by my earlier review I loved this placed and ate here about once every two months.I think this is the third owner since I moved to Cedar Park about a year ago. Friendly service has remained the same thru all of them. The last owner had the best food and menu. Really surprised at the menu change when we went in. Ok nothing really bad about the change except I had heard that the seafood baskets( two or three items, your pick) were a big seller and now they are gone.
The problem was the food, my dining partner and apologist for my personality flaws had the pot stickers and only ate one of them. She said they had a dishwater taste to them. She says I don't believe anything she tells me, so she made me taste one. It did taste very bad, dirty grease? I only ate half of one.
I had the catfish basket and the catfish used to be great but instead of being crisp it bent like a rubber band. The fish itself was soggy inside the breading as was the case with the zucchini. I think the oil wasn't hot enough, but what do I know.
One of my favorite places has turned into a place we will not go back to. Oh well maybe in another 6 months the owner might change again.
My husband and I vowed to never eat at Caddyshack again due to the horrible food and service. Â When it changed owners, we decided to give it another try and were pleasantly surprised! Â Now this is our favorite hangout spot for food and drinks with friends. Â Have tried several items on the menu and have not been disappointed with anything yet. Â The fried rice is very good but very oily (which is probably why it tastes so good) and is plenty for two to share and be completely full. Â Husband loves the fried catfish basket. Â The hushpuppies are soo good! Â Hamburgers are fresh. Â Try the mushroom and swiss sliders. Â Buns are soft and the portion is plenty for a meal. Always ask for the fries to be extra crispy otherwise they might come out undercooked and limpy. Â Bacon-wrapped shrimp, great appetizer. Â They should make a meal out of it. Â All of the Korean options are great! Â The only thing I didn't care for was the stuffed crab special. Â Too much filler and not enough crab. Â It's frozen "food service" and didn't have a whole lot of flavor. Â Fried shrimp basket is great. Â Wasn't a fan of the fried scallops. Â Not much flavor. Â If you order anything fried, mix some Sriacha sauce with the tarter for an awesome, spicy, flavorful sauce. I'm addicted! Â
Everyone is friendly and there are a lot of regulars there who are always friendly. Â Love the waitress/bartender Kristen. Â She's always friendly and helpful. Â If you are looking for a place to sit down and immediately get greeted and waited on like a full-service restaurant, you might be disappointed. Â There are usually two waitstaff working the entire restaurant. We have just learned to go up to the bar and ask for a menu and let them know where we are sitting. Haven't had a problem with the service though. Â Very casual and we love to come here just to hang out. Â Not recommended for families because it is very loud and has very much of a bar feel instead of a restaurant. Â If you sit at the bar, the bartender will let you sample the beer on tap so you can try each one. Â
Great, friendly service with excellent food! Â Awesome change and we will continue to go there at least once a week! Â Hope to see you there!
I've followed this friendly neighborhood pub through the years as it's changed owners & names numerous times. The current owner (Jae) is committed to correcting the numerous  mistakes of the previous owner (aka the SadSack...err...Caddyshack days). He's made several nice improvements to the decor & menu in addition to adding a full bar to the 28 beers on tap & decent wine selection.
The layout is simple & clean with an open feel. The only drawback to the space (other than the noise level when bands are playing at night) is the comfortable yet cozy patio. It's small size forces some compromises. It's partially covered & shaded by the building's awning which is nice on days of hot, direct sun, but it's also the hangout spot for smokers who are more often than not present so if you have extreme allergies to cigarette smoke you may find it difficult to find a seat where you won't get an occasional smell of smoke. On the plus side, the patio is also dog friendly & the owner & staff are quick to provide a bowl of cold water to thirsty pups.
The food is surprisingly good for pub fare. Korean menu items & Asian influences are a welcome additions to the standard pub grub of burgers & appetizers. Fresh grilled veggies are almost always an option with any entree. Wait times for their hand made burgers or grilled rib eyes are longer than you'll find at other spots, but that's an opportunity to enjoy your pint, watch the sporting event du jour on one of the 8 HD TVs inside (or the big projection screen outside at night). Or strike up a conversation with any of the friendly local regulars.
Regulars do abound & are generally quite friendly & Â helpful. Several are small business owners in the community & their attachment to the area & this pub is genuine. If you need something fixed or replaced or a new sprinkler system or deck installed just ask around. Odds are good someone will be able to help you.
The staff is friendly & experienced. They'll go out of their way to learn your favorite pint or taste preferences  & if something is not to your liking they will work to make it right. On average 25% of their tap wall changes with regularity & they are always looking for input from patrons for what goes in the cooler. In general you'll find your standard domestic fare plus seasonal offerings from local brewers like Real Ale and 512 in addition to well known imports. They also have a decent cooler full of longnecks for those who want a cold bottle.
The pub is friendly which includes being kid friendly. While I'm not a huge fan of seeing kids elbowed up to the u-shaped granite bar or occasionally throwing darts at the board, I'm sure some parents appreciate a friendly, non-threatening place to take the family for a good bite to eat & a cold adult drink for mom & dad. It's not as overrun with kids as Maggiores across Lakeline Blvd. Â All in all their policies are in line with a European pub where families are welcome. From time to time a few very young children will be found there longer & later than they should be, but that's the fault of irresponsible parents, not the staff or management.
If a casual, friendly, drama free environment to enjoy a cold beer or drink with some good food is what you're looking for, then give Sunset B&G a try.
this is a good neighborhood pub. great beer selection. beer is cold and fresh and the service is top naoch (AMIRITE?). the staff is very friendly. golden tee live 2012, a multi-game classic arcade machine, foosball, and darts are available for those interested in a game. also one of those loner bar-top touch screen games if you're into that.
if you're into haggard-looking, desperate, middle-aged women, this is also your place. absolutely unparalleled people watching for the NW Austin / Cedar Park area - thus i give it 4 stars.
considered three stars because if there's live music going on, it's always too loud.
*quick update* - I want to suggest Sunset as a GREAT place for a few pints on a Sunday afternoon. Also, this place has a ton of TV's and is a good place to watch sports.
This place is caz. u. well.  It really belongs on a pier by the lake or out on HWY 71, not in a shopping center, what with it's staff in cut-off shorts and BRIGHT blue eye shadow, it's playlist of what I would call Biker Rock (Clapton, Lynyrd, and Foghat), and it's loud, smokey  group of what appears to be regular customers. Â
Hubby and I thought we'd check it out on a pleasant Friday evening. Â We wanted a drink and a place to unwind. Â Um. Â Yeah. Â Very little unwinding here. Â We picked a deserted area on the patio and spent about 10 minutes wondering if there was waitstaff before going in to the bar to order drinks. Â The waitstaff showed up a few minutes later, very friendly, introducing themselves and explaining that they all wait tables together. Â The group of regulars began to trickle in as well and perched at the two tables behind us, eventually, literally crowding us on an otherwise empty patio. Â I was simultaneously jealous, wanting to be in a group of rowdy friends, and annoyed by the raucous laughter and smoking. Â Annoyed finally won out and we decided to go buy our own booze at the liquor store and go home.
But before that happened, we perused the menu. Â Hubby was thrilled to find fried chicken livers which he devoured happily (by. himself. Â ewwww) and I ordered the Korean dumplings which were listed as fried on the menu but the waiter also offered them up steamed, and being on a, ahem, diet, Â I ordered em up this way. Â Their presentation was very pretty actually (see pic) and they were tasty and served with a great soyish, tangyish, spicy sauce.
While we were eating, a pizza guy from Marco's next door walked onto the patio and was trying to get the group of regs (they need a name....hmm...how about the Grackles) to buy it for $6. Â It was an "extra" he said. Â The Grackles all seemed to know this guy too and joked and laughed around with him for about 10 minutes before he walked INSIDE. Â The restaurant. Â To try to sell his $6 pizza inside. Â Srsly, they are very friendly and neighborly here. Â Everyone knows everyone in this Mr Roger's Dive. Â
I think we would go back. Â I'm very curious about the other Korean offerings like bulgogi, tucked in between the typical fried seafood and burgers. Â We'll just need to get into a Grackle frame of mind before we go and maybe rat my hair and put on my green eyeshadow.
We brought our kids, which we normally wouldn't do; but since it was Sunday afternoon, the place was pretty empty. The bar is super clean --no sticky tables or bad smells.
This is a great neighborhood bar, where you can sit leisurely, have some beers, and watch sports on the many TV screens available. They also have a free foosball tabe and darts to play while you're waiting for your food. They have about 16 well-chosen beers on tap. There is something for everyone--from the mass produced Bud to craft beers from Austin and around the country and beyond. If you're not a beer drinker, they have Crispin Cider and a small selection of wines to choose from. The bartender/waitress was superb! Can't decide on a beer, ask for a sample. My favorites were  Shock Top, Austin Amber and Smithwick's.
The food is mostly what you would expect at a pub, except with a few Korean inspired dishes. The Korean food is not what I would consider authentic, however, it's very tasty and a great pairing with beer. We ordered the Yakimandu (Korean dumplings). It was deep-fried to perfection! The wrapper was crispy and the interior was stuffed with tender meat and onions. The accompanying sauce was also tasty. If you like wet wings, try them here! Wings are deep fried then smothered in a spicy, but not too spicy, Kochuchan(Korean red pepper paste) and hot sauce mixture! I wanted to lick my plate. The bulgogi sandwich reminds me loosely of a French dip type sandwich. The sandwich is overstuffed with bulgogi meat with the chewy French bread absorbing the juices. Â I would usually complain that the meat is too sweet; however, the sweetness really works with the bitterness of the beer. Â We also ordered a kids burger meal. The burger was huge and cooked to a nice medium, but pretty average. The shoestring fries were nicely fried, but pretty average as well.
I can see that this place can probably get noisy during nights with live music, but they have a pretty nice patio outside. Also, they can work on getting food out better. We did receive each dish at different times; however, it's a new establishment so they'll have to work out these kinks.
Before I end this review, I wanted to commend this establishment on their awesome customer service. My son stubbed his toe on the door (his own fault) and the owner came out with alcohol, neosporin and bandages in hand, gently washed and dressed my son's bloody toe as though he were family. He really made my son look and feel better. This is the kind of customer service that will win my patronage for life.
As I searched for Sunset Bar & Grill I realized it is in the same location where the former Taps, Tap Room and Caddyshack's previously was.
Caddyshack's was loud, smokey, no wine and had mediocre food at best. Â Well there is no longer smoke lingering in the air. They layout, decor, etc is exactly the same as Caddyshack's was. Â They have also retained the same employees. Â
I grabbed a seat and was pleased to see a wine small wine list that had 3 reds. Â I was greeted by Kristin and ordered a glass of Gascon malbec. Â She returns and informs me they are out. So I order another red, once again she returns to inform me they are out. But this time she brings a taster of the red they do have.
They have a good number of beers on tap but the only Texas beers they pour is Austin Amber and Fireman's 4.
The appetizer menu has an array of items such as fried gizzards, corn nuggets, bacon wrapped shrimp and crab Rangoon. I put in an order of the crab Rangoon and once again am informed they are out.
The rest of the menu consists of sandwiches, burgers, seafood and a small section of Asian food. Â We ordered a blackened shrimp salad and a BLT with fries. Â The BLT came out first with the explanation that they have one small grill to cook so they couldn't prepare the bacon and the shrimp at the same time. OK, no biggy but what if we walked in with a table of 8? Would all the orders be served 10-15 minute apart from each other? Â The BLT was served club style and had to much mayonnaise oozing out. The fries were limp and greasy, so greasy that the flavor didn't have a hint of potato to it but instead only grease. Â
The salad came out about 10 minutes after the BLT. Â The waitress informed me that the shrimp were grilled instead of blackened, and asked if I wanted to send it back? Well I am not one to waste food so I said I would just take it as is. I would guess that when this happens in most places that serve food the protocol would be to just 'fix it" without asking the customer "hey we made it wrong, do you still want it?". The shrimp had no seasonings and were chewy. The vegetables were fresh and crisp but overall the salad was basic and boring.
The second star is for getting rid of the smoke and the pleasant people that work here.
This place has a great selection of beers. My husband ordered a burger and I ordered the 2 seafood combo with shrimp and oysters. Â The waitress came back to tell me that they were out of oysters, so I ordered the pork bulgogi. The pork was soooo full of fat and tough that I had to send it back. My husband's burger was decent, so I decided to order that instead. Both burgers tasted good, but they both had chucks of raw beef. When I was almost done with my food, I found a hair in my plate.
I agree with the other reviewers: Â inside the place is very noisy, so we sat outside. Even though they might say that it is a kid-friendly place, it is a bar, and people smoke outside. We brought the baby and she probably got second-hand smoke, but I guess it is our fault for bringing her.
There was a large table of regulars  near us, and they were very nice. That made the experience a whole lot better.
Wow. Very impressed with the food quality and menu selection. Very fresh - not sure if it was because it was Monday and supplies just arrived or that's their new norm. I had the shrimp wrapped with pepper and bacon and a cheese burger and fries. Shrimp was good, peppers just cut, still saw some seeds - cooked perfectly. Burger lightly seasoned and again very fresh veggies. Fries - average. A little pricy on a double meat burger -$13.00, but other prices seemed average.
Bar service was average - in their defense there was a new bartender.
Only neg - the sound. It was open mic (which is always cool) and the host/guitarist was not bad, but there was no sound absorption. There were only four people in the place and even placing an order and getting a drink was challenging. Managers need to install some sound tiles in the ceilings - it's pretty bad.
Steps above the previous establishment. It's good to be known for fresh food, especially when you operate a bar. I wish the new owners luck. I will be back.
