Four stars for being one of the few places in town to still have Newcastle Brown Ale on draft.
I've been in here a few times and love the dive-ish, neighborhood bar feel the place just exudes. Beer is well priced with a nice selection of brands.
Did I mention they have Newcastle? Â You had me at hello.
The chow I've had here has been fine, but my White Whale here is the Friday fish and chips lunch special. I 've heard they are really good, and each time I've tried to get them it's been too late. I think the best fish and chips in town are at the Dog and Duck, so it's going to take a lot to change my mind.
So, four stars for Newkie and a potential fifth if the fish and chips pan out. If I can ever bag the damn things.
Yet another North Austin gem, right down the road off of Jollyville. It's not corporate or fancy, it's the kind of bar you'd see on a tv show. You know the kind, everyone knows your name, you're there all the time and you have the same table.
The beer selection here is seriously no joke. I was so overwhelmed by options! I'm also not really a beer drinker so that's probably why. I ended up getting some wine instead and I let my husband stick to the beer choices.
There is plenty of seating, inside and out. There's a pool table and darts in the backroom. Plenty of parking and really decent prices. If you're just looking for a good ol' neighborhood bar to go have a drink at, this is your place. I get the feeling it's the type of bar that the service industry loves.
