A very respectable cafe with a good menu. Stopped here on the way from Ninilchik to Anchorage and tried a couple different items with my family. The halibut was decent, but perhaps a bit dry after being fried, Â the clam chowder was good, and the chicken fried chicken dinner was decent as well. Prices are not bad for the region and service was polite and friendly. I would recommend if you need a bite to eat with your family to stop here and forego more touristy places along the road.
Review Source:Yes, Yelpers, this place is as good as it gets in Alaska! Â Stopped in yesterday for a bite after dipnetting. Â We've always driven by the place, but never had a chance to stop. Â Well, after an amazing day of netting, we decided to give Suzie's a try. Â It was AMAZING!
The cafe is inside an older log home, with several small tables and a counter. Â The menu is small, with mostly diner trappings--burgers, sandwiches, and fries. Most of the table got burgers and my Dad got a turkey sandwich. Â The plates were huge! Â The burger was hand-pressed with a tasty bun and fresh veggies. Â The fries were classic and good. Â Most of us couldn't finish all of our food--and mostly we're your usual, big, burly classic-Alaskan types!
Service was outstanding! Â It appeared a young group of people running the show. Â Our waitress was a very polite, friendly young lady with a great attitude. Â Our drinks were never empty and food was prompt. Â Prices were very reasonable--around ten bucks for the burgers.
This is truly a locals' place; not like the tourist trap places in Anchorage or Kenai that claim to be so. Â It is as good as it get!! Â Woo-hoo times two!
Edit: Note that this place is only open in the summers...
Amazingly we came to Alaska for fishing - salmon and halibut. Â We also watch the deadliest catch for crab...but what do we find they serve best here? Â Hot beef or turkey sandwiches and hamburgers. Â No gripes here. We ate at Suzies one day on our way back from one of our fishing trips on the Kenai and enjoyed a cup of their homemade clam chowder and one of their house favorites. Â We came in starving and freezing and we left warm and content. Â
We definitely recommend Suzies for any of Hawaii's own traveling south of Anchorage.
