Tall Texan Bar & Grill

The Tall Texan in what you would call "local flavor". As in you have to be a local to really appreciate it.

The menu is hit or miss. Some of the items are just God awful, but others are really pretty good. The battered chicken strips and cheeseburgers stand out. Some of it is a matter of preference; it will take a couple visits to get what you like sorted out.

The service is uniformly horrible. Over the dozens of times I have been there, the wait staff is always overwhelmed, even when they outnumber customers three to one. If the place is packed, expect a long wait for your food. Sometimes they run out of things like buns or fries. Although hours are posted, they close down the kitchen or the entire place early on slow nights.

Note: This is not always a bad thing in Horseshoe Bay. I have spent many a pleasant hour at the Tall Texan outside on the deck,  getting to know the people around me or inspecting the cattle brands. Sometimes it is nice to slow down a little.

The best option is to phone in your order and pick it up. For some reason, they take extra care with the take out and I've never had a bad experience that way. I really love this place and want to be more supportive, but the dining in experience always burns me.

this place is way overpriced and undersized. for a place called the 'tall texan,' you'd think they'd have larger portions than a 6oz (total weight) philly cheesesteak for $8, 3 tiny chicken tenders for $7-something, and 3 catfish fingers for $8. the karaoke sucked too. just a bunch of old drunk men singing depressing country songs. don't go here if you're a tall texan. don't go here if you're hungry. don't go here if you want to have some fun drinking. just don't come here.
