It took me a long time to stop at Tammy & Johnny's, but once I did it's hard to pass this place without stopping. Â I have the same thing over and over - chicken thighs with mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuit and cole slaw. Â I burn my fingers cause I eat the chicken as soon as I get it while it's still HOT. Â It takes a bit of time to get your order, but it's well worth it.
Review Source:Definitely worth a stop. I dont know much about hush puppies and fried chicken but I do know that everywhere else we got them on our trip to North Carolina didn't even come close, thats why i'm giving this place 4 stars. The other stuff on the menu was just alright. I did make it a point to stop on our return trip home, I got two orders of hush puppies...
Review Source:Chicken was good and the biscuits also good, Â burgers not so much ( very reminiscent of my grade school cafeteria ). Â Fries were crispy and tasty.
As another reviewer pointed out the bathrooms were icky and it was hard to find a clean table which kinda calls into question the cleanliness of the whole place. Â Hope they read these reviews and make an effort to rectify the situation since the food is good.
Had to wait twenty minutes for fried chicken since they were out. The potato salad is really sweet. The cole slaw is good. Here is why they get 4 stars. THE CHICKEN IS AMAZING. My fried chicken loving daughter said she would give it ten stars and said it was as good as the fried chicken she got at Paula Deen's restaurant.
Review Source:The fried chicken is absolutely legit. Â The crust is on the skin is light, crispy, and not overly seasoned. Â I was skeptical the first time around but after a couple of visits, I can say that this is a legit fried chicken spot.
I've also tried a Cheeseburger Combo and BBQ ribs. Â Both were just ok. Â I've honestly had better in California. Â I know that's a weird answer when it comes to ribs, but it's actually a growing movement in SoCal, especially in San Diego. Â There are some good BBQ options all over San Diego. Â
California may not have invented the burger, but I'm not going to far out on a limb in stating that they perfected it. Â Think of all the chains that were spawned in California. Â Inn-N-Out, McDonald's, Carl's Jr/Hardee's, Jack In The Box, Smashburger just to name a few.
But Tammy & Johnny's definitely serves up some quality fried chicken.
That's fasho...
This is a sleeper spot on the Eastern Shore and a usual pit stop if I am traveling North or South. They have very good local food and are a good Hamburger and BBQ joint, but the thing that sets them into the upper atmosphere is the Chicken. It is amazing. Its one of those places where you stop and get a bucket to take with you so you have some insane snack food when the gang wants a midnight snack.
"The Good"
- As mentioned above, the chicken. Its delicious plain and simple. get some, enjoy the chicken and experiment with other items on the menu.
- I have also had a Pulled Pork Sandwich on a previous visit and it was very good.
- The Biscuit... Its homemade and I enjoyed it. however, I have heard people say they think it is too dry and I have seen people order a dozen of them to take home for dinner. When you eat the chicken and the biscuit and a Dr. Pepper together each one tastes better and it turns out to be a good day.
"The Meh"
- The first few times visiting here I had no clue where to stand but with the help of a nice little old lady that ushered me into line in front of her I had the pattern down.
- Its one of those things that are unique to different places and its kinda in between Good and Meh (but charming) the one picture shows the restrooms... they are outside in a separate building. I think its cool but you get the occasional upper crusty that will complain... whatever, if you want to use the restroom find a rest stop, the funny part is there really are not any on the entire run of the Eastern Shore so you are SOL. So support the establishment you stop at and realize that simple is how we all started out.
"The Bad"
- Nothing to comment on, smile when you order and the ladies will take care of you.
You must stop here!
Do not drive past this place or you will miss the best fried chicken of your life.
And I mean the traditional fried chicken. Not fancy or new finagled, but just crisp on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside chicken goodness.
The price is good, the sides are fine, the dining room is clean and no frills and you order at the counter and wait for your number to be called. When they call, you grab your bird and get to the nearest table to devour it probably while it is too hot, but you just can't wait for it to cool off!
You can't miss the neon sign.
Get going yelpers!!!
