Got the hamburger but definitely could have got a better one at a fast food joint for 1/4 the price. Onion rings were ok if I was at a fast food joint but I wasn't. Kids wouldn't touch the Mac & Cheese which I couldn't blame them after tasting. Staff was friendly and nice. Beer was ok but nothing compared to the breweries in San Diego. Won't be stopping there again on any future trips to Paso.
Review Source:As you walked in you were warmly greeted, the restaurant is large and open, tables and booths have lots of room, food was excellent and of course the beer was good too! Â
TV's for the boys to watch sports which is a distraction and did cause the restaurant to be very loud. but all in all a great place!!
I am going to try to be nice with this review but its going to be hard. Its going to me to tone down my tone and spoiled attitude.
Yelp is not a venue to rip on an establishment cause you are having a bad day, Â your holding a grudge or otherwise just a jerk!
The food:
Thin crust pizza = Chewy (margarita, it had overly thick slices of tomato and a sparsely spread basil)
Trio of fries = They got the french fries right, but who can eat just fries.
From 3 to 5 pm every day the kitchen shuts down between lunch and dinner. More like it slows down. Fries, pizza, or a salad and your fine. But of you want a cup of soup, forget it. Needless to say, Â I didn't get to try the short ribs or the chili that people have hyped up and that might have changed my mind about the kitchen.
The service = Lacking and almost rude.
The supposed reason for this is that between 3 and 5 PM they are not doing full service.
The beer = Most of it seems just so so. However they have some serious beer on tap at this place. A dark Rye IPA, a Double IPA, an IPA and another IPA. A Nitro, a pale, a summer wheat and a Hef.
The beer is mostly 4 star but the food seems to be an after thought. That disappointed me enough to refrain from stopping there again.
Overall this place was a disappointment. Sorry guys. I can only hope if you read this review you don't get upset, don't take it personal. The establishment has a lot of real estate to keep busy and economically productive. Maybe you should bring in some new talent to help run the place.
Let me begin by writing that i will NEVER be returning to the Firestone Walker Taproom. Â Shame because i truly do enjoy their lineup of beers and i live in Paso Robles.
Had a counterpart visiting from overseas and thought i would treat him to a tasting @ the bar. Â Sat down and waited for one of the 4 bartenders to take our drink order. Â Waited. Waited. Â 5 minutes go by without even an acknowledgement that we have sat down. Â
Two couples then sit at opposite ends of the bar and both have their order taken before ours. Â Upset at this point, i ask the bartender why we have been waiting for what seems like 10/15 minutes without being served and he explains that we are not sitting on his side of the bar. Â Apparently, the 3 bartenders on our side were too involved in their own conversation to serve us.
Last time i will be visiting their restaurant. Â With all the fantastic service and food at other restaurants in the area, don't waist your time.
The unfortunate reality is that if you compare the food here to the rest of your options in Paso it's really not that bad, but coming from LA and the many "gastro pub" choices we have it's just really plain and bland. Â If I were you i'd stick to the tasting room next door, I have a whole new appreciation for this brewery and especially their barrel aged brews after touring the operation.
Review Source:Wife and I have been to the Tap Room twice for lunch. First time, I had the fish & chips. It was ok. She had a burger, which was a decent burger but nothing special.
Went back a month or so later, turned out it was a big day, rolling out their 2013 Parabola beer. They were quite excited about it, and by the time we left, the place had pretty much filled up.
We sampled the Parabola (a double-shot sized taste of the 2012 and 2013 brew). It wasn't to our taste but that's just a matter of personal preference. At the server's suggestion, we also ordered a cheese platter. For $20 we got about 2 ounces of cheese, 4 varieties, on a small cutting board which we were able to keep. No crackers, and two of the cheeses were very soft. Never had cheese served to me like that.
We shared a steak and cheddar pizza, and added jalapeños. It was ok, if you enjoy greasy pizza.
If you're a big beer lover, there's plenty to like here, but as for food you'd do better at the Chilis down the road. Yes, I said it!
Had lunch at the Taproom yesterday - great chicken tortilla soup, average burger and fish tacos, but really great beer (Solstice). Â There were so many cars parked outside that we almost did not stop - turns out the brewery employees park out front making it difficult for customers to find a parking spot. Â This is something they really need to change!
Review Source:3 stars are mostly for the beers and the space, the food lost the other other 2 stars.
Firestone has one of my favorite beers, the Double Jack. Â Even though I can get in bottle pretty regularly now, I still like that you can get it on draft at the Taproom.
We arrived around 6pm on a Saturday night and while it was busy we were able to get a booth in the bar area pretty easily. Â The space is really new, with a modern brewery feel. Â The place is pretty big so I can't imagine having to wait too long for a table.
Our waiter was also the bartender, but the service did not lack. Â We was personable and put up with all our antics. We started with some onion rings. Â I enjoyed them but there weren't many to share. Â I went with their special steak for the night, unfortunately it wasn't so special. Â Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad but if I don't recall much about it. I wasn't impressed and I was even pretty sober at the time. Â : )
I also had some of Lissa G's chopped salad. Again, nothing special but on the other hand it was fine. We ended with some giant mud pie dessert. Â We all enjoyed the dessert which was more than enough for us 4 and probably could have fed 6.
I'll be back for the beers and maybe some snack to go with it, but most likely not a full dinner or lunch.
Didn't go in having too high expectations as far as food, but I still thought it would be a bit better.
After a fun day of wine tasting, olive oil tasting, and other merriment, we stopped here for some dinner and to have some of the delicious brews! Our waiter in the bar area, Nick (who was also the bartender), was very fun and took a lot of crap from us with a smile. Â We were just messing around with him and he played along perfectly.
Sadly, there was no Velvet Merkin available (best beer ever!). If you're familiar with Firestone's Velvet Merlin, it's that but aged in Bourbon barrels. Â Yum! I had a Merlin instead. Oddly, it didn't taste al that fresh, even though we were at the Taproom.
Onion rings were good but scant for the price; I believe there were 5. Chopped salad was decent. The special of the night was a ribeye with 'mushrooms and a gratin,' we were told. Â So, my friend asked, "like potatoes au gratin?" "Of course!" was the response. Â Both she and Jim G. ordered the special. Â Turns out, they only have one left. Â Ok, my friend orders the short rib, but asks if she can have the gratin. "No substitutions." Â Unfortunately, even though they ran out of the meat, they won't mix and match any of the sides. Â It worked out well as there were no potatoes gratin. Â It was mushrooms which attempted to be topped with the breadcrumbs/cheese combo; it was an odd side dish. Â Meat was just ok and a bit overcooked; for the $30 price tag, it was not acceptable to me, but Jim G. was fine with it, so ok.
Service was fun and friendly, the place had tons of energy, but overall, it was a let down. Â In the future, we'll just go in to the actual tasting room and skip the food. Â I mean, who needs food when you have beer?
Went for dinner and we were rather underwhelmed. The beer was good (but to try some of their more interesting brews is suuuuper expensive, and they even charged for tastes). BF ended up getting the one that tastes like Toffee (yummy! but pricey) and I think an IPA. The hostess was unpleasant and not helpful, but our server was sweet. The food was totally underwhelming- I got mac and cheese and is was the most flavorless dish I've ever ordered. I had all of two bites because it just wasn't worth eating. BF got a bacon-avo-cheese burger, good, but what won't be good with all that on it :) Don't think we'll go back for the food, but maybe will for the beer.
Review Source:I've eaten here several times and the service is always excellent. Â I've enjoyed every menu item I've ordered - the margarita pizza, the 805 salad, the steak, the cheese plate, the creme brulee. Â The wine list is terrific, and everyone I know who likes beer loves the beer. Â A very enjoyable atmosphere - I've only sat in the "bar area" which is not too much like a bar.
Review Source:went here for lunch with a friend very disappointing...we both ordered fish tacos that came with a side salad and water. when the salad came it was just  warm lettuce we had vinaigrette that tasted like straight olive oil. tacos tasted like frozen fish sticks cut up and very dry. bill was 30 bucks total rip off. waitress was completely rude and never came back  after bringing our food and the place was completely dead... we will never be back. yuck!
Review Source:Went for a late lunch to celebrate the Giants winning the NLDS. Â I ordered the Burger ($10) and hubby ordered the BBQ brisket sandwich ($13, I believe). Â The hamburger tasted like the $2.20 one at In-n-Out., not impressed at $10. Â The BBQ brisket was very small for the price. Â Have been twice for dinner, pretty pricey, so we thought lunch would be less expensive. Â Will NOT be going for food...just beer.
Review Source:With a visit to the brewery we stopped in for lunch. The food was pretty good but not what we were expecting. The Fish n Chips were described on the menu as "Panko crusted" yet were more traditionally beer battered.
The food was A-OK, the steak & cheddar pizza was pretty good. We would come back if in the area again as fans of the Beers.
Sláinte!
Looking for something different in Paso, menu looked interesting on line, so went here for the first time with the family. I will not go back. Food was average (chili was good, burger average, salad bland, pizza pathetic), and the lunch menu was an extremely limited version of the on line menu. The wait service was horrible, we went for a late lunch (around 1:30PM), there were only a few tables occupied but we had to follow up with our server on our initial drink order and she told us she was busy getting food out. We had to follow up several times for different things (whether it was mustard for the burgers, or the order of fries, or a second round of drinks) and each time we were greeted with attitude.
Plenty of restaurants in Paso with good food, and pleasant wait staff; so while we are happy to have tried something new, the experience was disappointing. We will not be returning to the Tap Room.
I've eaten here 3 times now and the food is consistently good. I would give more stars for that but last nights service was really bad. Working in the restaurant business has created a watchful eye when I dine out. But when the entire table of 8 are reacting and are offended I can't ignore this.
1. She never told us her name(table of 8 who arrived in 3 waves due to work schedules, over 2 hour period).
2. Never cracked a smile( was hot and cold)
3. Obviously in a hurry and wanted to go home. (we arrived at 7:30 ordered beers and 2 apps and asked when the kitchen closed to make sure and not order too late)
4. We had to ask for napkins, menus, wine list, and shared one beer menu after the first app arrived.
5. Was never offered water, we had to ask and never got hers.
6. Was quick to interrupt and tell us what she was going to do before we could finish.
7. Tried to talk one of us out of substituting broccollini for cole slaw and explained "it's really ugly and stringy but will me missed if not on his plate".
8. Overall abrupt and short
In conclusion this little waitress should not be in a people serving business. It is up to management to interview better so they choose the right types of personality to represent their restaurant.
We will go back for the great beer and good food but will avoid eating at the bar area.
Pretty good hang out. Beers are good and there is a large selection. Wine list has good selections, but is a bit short. Food is good by my taste and all reports. Kids are welcomed. Personal pizzas are large. 805 Salad was a bit boring. Pork chop was amazing. Fish taco was good, but too much breading. Larger pieces of fish would be better. Short rib with polenta was fantastic. Service was prompt and helpful. Manager Rob was friendly and welcoming. There is poor cell service in the building and it would be cool if they had guest wifi. The ambience is perfect for a brewery. There is a lot of seating. They hold over 160 in the dining room plus 75 more in the bar.
