This place continues to knock my socks off. Do NOT be put off by the first few steps into this mercado - NOR drive past. You will miss out.
Fantastic eatery. Great people. Good prices.
Just the two of us this time.
SOP - chips and two warm salsas - drink orders. Score! They have horchata and a grapefruit Jarritas. Si, por favor!
Pops didn't want the quantity of food that he gets with the nachos so I suggested
he try a torta this go round. Â He chose the chicken torta w/ everything.
I marveled at the sopes and super tacos; and being unable to narrow got all - 2 puerco sopes and a carne asada super taco.
Freshly prepared, they arrived in no time whatsoever. His torta was crispy pressed and grilled to perfection and he loved the jalapenos on the sandwich as well. He was pleasantly surprised at the size given the $4 price tag.
My sopes were wonderful, piping hot and loaded - so much so that the queso fresco would barely stay on the little heap. Â The STANDOUT of my meal had to be the beef super taco! Â I'm still trying to work my way through the menu and you go and serve something like that to me. Â I may never get anything else there ever.
Taqueria Luz Tacos sets the bar by which all other tacquerias are gauged in my book. (And I have to drive about 90 miles from home to get there)
Wish there was a mall nearby to walk this off. Who else but me gets horchata AND a grapefruit jarritas? I may pay for this later. Is there a similar place anywhere near Carmel or Fishers?
Oh - and my freaking bill was $11 before generous tippage.
The five stars are for the food. I am still thinking about the chicken super burrito I had there yesterday. Really liked the flavor of the grilled chicken and the rice that was inside. Beats the hell out of qdoba or chipotle. Burrito was about the same size as those establishment's. Not sure when I will be back to Union City, but when I am, I will be heading here. As others have said, it's a dive. Small supermaket in the front and the restaurant in the back. My co-worker had the chicken quesidilla and also liked it a lot. Both entrees were straight up $5 apiece.
Review Source:I love the super tacos and supper burritos. I become the county's cheapest date when I go to Taqeria luz tacos because I get two super tacos for $4. Â
The salsa is thinner than most salsas at other Mexican restaurants but it is served warm and is so good. I also like the fresh cilantro that is cooked with the meat.
I went there yesterday and my left overs were still delicious today.
Definitely worth your time and money. :)
I love taking people places where they're totally freaked out by the outward appearance of the business but when you leave they're raving about the food- Taqueria Luz Tacos is one of those places. Despite their sometimes chaotic front window displays, there are a lot of great things going on inside this Mexican grocery/restaurant. Besides, I wouldn't want the window displays to be all fancy - that'd take all the fun out of it.
Enough about the window displays.
Bebidas: I highly recommend the cinnamony/ricey goodness known as Horchata. My mom swears by the mango juice called Boing (found in the front cooler when you walk in). They also offer a couple different Mexican beers.
Comida: A side of rice and beans are a staple with whatever main dish I'm hankerin' - I switch back and forth between the beef enchiladas and tamales - when they are available. My family loves the super burritos. And when I say "super" I mean super-duper-enormous-loaded-meant-to-be-two-meals "super". On top of wonderful food and a great small town/casual atmosphere, Taqueria Luz Tacos is extremely affordable - a group of four rarely costs more than 20 bucks.
Shopping - obviously I can't think of the translation right now: They sell everything from bulk beans and soccer clothes to snakeskin boots and cacti. --all at affordable prices, of course.
