Joyce's is the worst pub I've ever set foot in. Went there once a few years back--most people had no teeth, no shoes but there were overalls...ok fine, nbd- i cant get down with that. Time #2: douchey door boy of approx 16 years old thought we were too intoxicated to come in--god forbid being light hearted and laughing is not allowed in sober activities. I walked in anyway and told the bartender that he was hurting their crappy business and she said "well he's a pretty good judge of character" which is odd for a bar that has no character... Anywho, never go there. That place sucks, go to Ocean Mist instead.
Review Source:Stumbled upon this place , had fantastic  homefries later on ordered lunch and it was good. great irish menu, the staff is a riot and uber friendly, drinks were good and the private beach is soo nice. a really dive and best kept secret in the area. the outside deck the place to be on a nice day!
Review Source:I wish I could give this place 0 stars.
Have been once before, it's a total dive with meh service, but served as an ok breather from the Ocean Mist.
It seems their bro-dude bouncer now believes he is guarding the gates at a posh NYC nightclub. I had one beer next door, the DJ was not working (the official statement was a blown fuse), so figured I would opt for the quieter night,
Bro says to our group of 4 (all over 21, all dressed appropriately. nobody with more than 2 beers in their belly) "Yea, I'm done for the night, you can't come in. Next?" and proceeds to let the people behind us in. No rhyme or reason.
Honestly, the selection and service suck, but to get snobby on top of it? I will never go back again,

Tara's Joyce Family Pub has been around for a long time. Most of the locals usually just call it The Joyce but it had other names in the past. Since it is literally right on the ocean it has managed to survive several large hurricanes and all sorts of other natural disasters and rumor has it that it was one of the most famous speak easies during prohibition. Definitely a place with some history.
The actually bar area hasn't changed much during the 25 or so years I have been coming here. It still always very dark, very dank, very cluttered, and very messy. I swear the same pictures and signs are still on the walls from decades ago and the same wet spots are still on the floor in the exact same places. Hopefully the wet spots are water, perhaps beer, or just maybe something a bit less appetizing.
Going down into this pub leaves absolutely no doubt that you are in a different sort of a place. Sure it's a dive and if it didn't happen to be right next to the ocean it would look even crummier but it's a very special place. You might tend to stick to the floor, stools, walls or anyone you bump in to but in this place you just don't mind.
The doors are usually open so you always get the smell of salt air and a cool sea breeze. The chairs and stools look like they are about to fall apart and you can just imagine the history that each one would tell if they could speak.
Tara's is a Irish Pub and has great Irish food and great Irish music. Some famous artists and people have crowded into this strange place to entertain and mingle. Of course it has changed a bit over the years and now has a fantastic and airy deck that gives great views of the ocean. A great place to climb up and enjoy some great food or drink and see the sea but I still prefer the ancient underground cavern. That's where the history is and that's where you find the friendliest bar tenders and the most interesting people to talk to. Assuming you can find some one still sober enough to be coherent you can always get some great old stories in this place.
The great new deck gives it a different feel but the old ambiance still is present down below. This is a wet, messy, crowded and decidedly different type of bar. An anachronism that refuses to change with the times. A great place that has salt air, beautiful views, cool food, some wonderful music, fascinating people and history that just that drips off the walls.
