I wouldn't use my credit card if I go back.

I generally like the restaurant. The food has been good, not great, the décor is good, the outside area is great, the service is fine, not great. It is a popular place, often full, which means many people like it. It has too many senior citizens and little kids running around for my taste (the senior aren't the ones running around BTW :).

I have no idea if the following happened at Tavern 101, but I used my credit card there on a Saturday night and later that night and the next day, I had many fraudulent charges on my credit card, mostly online ticket sales. My bank called me Sunday afternoon flagging them. I had to cancel the account and get a new card. I did not have to pay for the excess of $2000 spent, but it is a big haste and a unpleasant feeling of violation to have your credit card hacked. I didn't use that card anywhere else that weekend. It could have been hacked anywhere I used the card the week before, but the charges happened after I ate there.

I'm not accusing anyone at the restaurant, there is no way to find out who hacked into my card, but I'm just wondering if anyone else had the same experience. I called the owner and he was VERY nice and apologetic (I did not want nor receive a free meal, etc.). But next time I go there, I will pay cash.

I was excited about trying Tavern 101 as I entered the restaurant and absorbed the vibe.

The atmosphere: Feels like a new restaurant (it is except that the same owners from the previous restaurant also run this place) with attentive staff who although a little unsure, have great intentions and aim to please with their service.  The décor is a little dark but not unbearably so which gives an intimate-dining-experience type vibe.  The TV's which surround the restaurant create a little bit of a rift with the intimacy but they're not unwelcome.

The beer: A very decent selection of craft beers from local breweries in the SoCal area.  I was surprised to find this given the Corona sign handing outside...

The food:  The Macaroni and Cheese with Bacon appetizer is very good.  Go at happy hour (2-6pm) and get it for half off.  Yum!  When asking my server about which steak I should order, she recommended the New York Strip and I complied asking for medium rare.  The steak I received was medium well and tough, not to mention pre-sliced which I don't like.  No biggie, I brought it to my server's attention and she politely took it back and had them make me a new one.  Upon arrival, I saw it was perfectly cooked at medium rare, but it still tasted like old rubber in my mouth.  Considering that this steak was priced above Wood Ranch which is right up the street, this was completely unacceptable.  They obviously have a meat quality issue, whether the steaks are delivered that way, or they're just kept too long before being cooked, I'm not sure.  This definitely needs to be fixed before I would consider eating here again.

The price: Considering the lack of quality regarding their meat, this place is way too expensive.

Conclusion: If you go, don't order meat, order something else.  Have your quality guard up and bring it to the owner's attention if you feel it needs work.  They are nice and deserve candid feedback.

Pulled pork sandwich is terrific, slow smoked and very tender I order mine with some slaw on top and a IPA to wash it down. What's better?

This place is a hidden gem, right off the 101 at the Kanan exit.  It has has it all, great  baby back ribs... the rib sauce was so good, I bought a bottle.  I like a little heat, so the "Nitro" was what I went home with.

The Mac and Cheese was ridiculously good as was the corn bread that comes to where ever you sit down at. My sweetie had the goat cheese salad topped with arugula and the salmon prepared any way you like it. Great beers and the value is definitely there.

I am most certainly going back...I'm told by the staff the weekends are full of jazz and blues.

I forgot to mention, the service was excellent, very attentive

Quality Food, I am a fan of smoked bbq.

Formerly known as Tavern 101 I really enjoy their crisp salads with smoked bbq chicken and the slow smoked pulled pork sandwich!

This new BBQ joint is good! I am giving four stars because the service is too fast. I never thought I would write a review stating that service was too fast but this was the case. We were in and out in less than an hour!  We started off with a beer selected from the extensive beer list (very impressive) and a glass of wine. We tried the chicken sushi roll. I loved this. White meat chicken, guacamole, sour cream, poco de gallo, all rolled into a pseudo sushi roll. I love the creativity here! The dish was a bit spicy but very tasty. The dinner came about three minutes after the appetizer which was way too soon. I had the pork ribs, half order. Meat was mouth-watering, juicy, and moist. There is a selection of three different temperature BBQ sauces. The mild was perfect for me. The sides I picked were Mac and cheese, which was just mediocre at best and the roasted sweet corn. Hands down the corn was delicious and one of the best I have had. Bits of red bell pepper added even more flavor!  My husband had the French dip sandwich which was also very good. There is live music on the patio too. I hope Tavern 101 is a huge success! We will try again soon.

This place was great! We went on a Saturday night and they had a soul/blues band playing outside on the patio. The patio decor and atmosphere were cozy with large wooden walls, candle torches, and string lights. The patio had tons of character and was great for a date night.

They brought complimentary cornbread before our meal. It was DELISH! I ordered the blue cheese burger with sweet potato fries and my husband got the tri-tip sandwich. Both were very good. The service was also great.

This place was a great find. We'll definitely be back.

What a great experience!   The back patio is perfect for summer night drinks!   The team was super attentive and kind.  Great burger!  Also the kale salad was excellent.  Special mention to the rosemary fries.  Our drinks were nice and strong.   Overall a wonderful to spend an evening!

I didn't order my usual today (pulled pork) - which was a mistake! I ordered the beef dip with a side of garlic mashed potatoes. The beef dip was very greasy and the meat was soooooo fatty - I barely ate any of it!  Really? You have 4 customers in the entire place and that's how you choose to cook the food? With meat scraps that aren't edible? The garlic in the garlic mashed potatoes was nowhere to be found. My coworker ordered the pulled pork and when our waitress asked if he wanted "Southern Style" with coleslaw- he said I'd like it Southern but with it on the side. She then went to go say that they can't do that because it would be considered 2 sides. So he can have it on the sandwich but not on the side? How's that? Also, she refilled my other co workers drink with iced tea instead of soda. Really? You're waiting 2 tables- you couldn't have asked him what he was drinking if you forgot. Also, the bus boy came out and asked "how's everything"- I responded that the food was below average today and he shrugged and walked away. No one thanked us for eating there, no one came out to ask why we said that the food was bad. I am forgiving when places get busy, the food can be mediocre, the service slow- this place has really no excuse. Until this experience, I would have given the place 4 stars.

This place used to be called will'ys BBQ. They have done a great job with the menu and the top notch staff. The patio is very cool, with a fire pit-table. I have watched this place evolve into a wonderful local place with great food and full bar. I was told there will be entertainment on weekends too.Never un- happy when we come here. Marco is doing a great thing in Agoura.
