This place is clean and very friendly. It isn't authentic Mexican food because it lacks the spices and flavor but if that's not what your expecting then it's great.

Lackluster. It was better when it was a hole in the wall. I don't know if they changed their recipes or product but its just not the same.

I was recently in the mood for some authentic Mexican food and made the mistake of googling this place and not going to yelp.  This place looks very nice from outside; the architecture of this new buidling is stunning.  However, the interior decor is about as bland as their food.  Although the staff is very nice, this place is a joke when it comes to Mexican food.

I was craving something truly Mexican but sadly there is NOTHING on this menu that is truly Mexican!  I ordered albondiga soup and it was nothing more than three wimpy ground beef balls floating in a a bowl full of vegetable broth with slices of crisp squash and brocoli. For those who don't know, albondigas are made with 1/2 beef and 1/2 pork, ground and mixed with rice, an egg, finely diced onion and mint, These are then boiled in the broth which gives it it's richness.  The albondigas are not simply fried or baked and then thrown into vegetable broth!

My wife ordered a wet burrito....what a joke!  Who in their right mind has ever seen an open ended burrito???; that's an enchilada!  This enchilada was smothered in this thick cumin sauce; not a hint of spice and the color of it was close to that of infants' diarreah...and it didn't taste much better.  I am not a picky person, in fact, I will eat just about anything but this I couldn't stomach.  I tried feeding it to the neighbors dog and he wouldn't even eat it.  If you really want good Mexican food, stay away from this place; I can't believe they call this "authentic Mexican food"...it's an embarrassment to Mexican cuisine.

I have been to this restaurant only twice and both times I have left the restaurant very dissatisfied, The first time I went they have been open for only a week, the hostess was very friendly, but had no clue of she was doing, the food was very greasy, bland and their so called guacamole came I am sure came out of a frozen bag, when I saw this guacamole on my plate was more of a brownish color. I ordered enchiladas and they were just ok. How can you mess up an enchilada????
I gave them the benefit of the doubt and went again with one of my out of town friend only because he insisted, after all I thought, the first time I went they were on their first week after opening, this time I went for the carnitas just to keep it "safe" , they include a side salad on some dishes but the salad is the Iceberg lettuce that tasted fresh out of a bag! I mean, come on! how long it would take you guys to chop some greens and make a real salad? The carnitas were some lumps of reheated pork pieces, very greasy and with no flavor, the guacamole was once again the one you find frozen in Smart and Final's frozen food section, the chips were warm and crispy, their salsa looked like it had seen its better days, big pieces of chile burned my mouth on the first bite and this overwhelming smoke taste made me think twice before I dared to eat more salsa. The best part of the experience was the dessert, we ordered a second flan, when we asked our waitress how they prepared them, she said that they buy them prepared. I think is very sad for a restaurant when the best part of the meal is the one where the restaurant had nothing to do with its preparation!
The restaurant architecture is absolutely beautiful and the staff is very friendly but unless they fix their menu I can see the clientele decreasing more and more. Would I go back again? I would not go to Tia Babe's even if got paid to go.

Tia Babes is the best!! I've been there a couple of times this year while visiting family and friends in Ventura County. What I found is an impeccable interior, nicely laid out and warmly set up. As soon as I entered the establishment, I could feel the warmth and the inviting atmosphere. I felt relaxed and unhurried, given more than enough time to munch on crispy chips and salsa and order my food. I had a beef  taco and chicken burrito-both great with fantastic service. Being a '72 Graduate of St. Bonaventure, several of us putting on our 40th needed an nice, neat venue so we turned to Tia Babes. My exact comment to Tia Babe-Flawless Perfection-Nothing short of that. Excellent Food, Service, Drinks, etc. I think there were at least 35 of us including spouses/other and it was a perfect choice. The staff really made us feel at home, yes Tia Babe's home where she invited us all in, took fantastic care of us, allowing us to eat great food, drink fine drink and cleaning after us to boot. We didn't have to worry about a thing. We just relaxed, visited, enjoyed each other and reminisced about 40 years ago even singing our Alma Mater about our little school with the big heart, nestled near Pacific Waters!!

This place needs help.  Nice building.  Clueless hostess. Guac is bland. Heads up Tia ~ Hass avocados MAKE guar a no brainer. You should look into only purchasing Hass avos. Hard to mess them up as they rock well on their own. Rice is boring. Refried beans had meat in them!! WTF?  Who puts meat into beans. Not cool!!  Stingy on salsa which is needed with such bland food.

Went to Tia Babes with my son recently.  Staff is super nice.  Pretty restaurant but the food left something to be desired.  Chips and salsa weren't very good.  I ordered the grilled chicken salad and my son ordered the Pork Carnitas.  Just ok.
Best part of the meal was the corn burrito appetizer which was tasty.

I've been here twice. (1) with co-workers for a quick bite and (2) with a group of students to celebrate their being active in Peace Builders group at Isbell Middle School in SP.

Both times great service!! Chips and salsa good - like the fact that their salsa is more on the spicy side than most places. The building is very nice, restrooms are clean.

    (1) Had shrimp enchilada - very good.
    (2) Tostada salad - great! Filled to the brim. The waiter did a great job of making sure the students were all taken care of and was very patient with them when it came to ordering, etc.  Unfortunately, my drink was only replenished once at the end of the meal, finally after I had asked a number of times if I could please have a refill.

After trip (2) all us adults wished we could stay for happy hour rather than have to escort students home!!! I'll have to return so I can review their margaritas!

My wife and I have been going to Tia Babe's about once per week since it opened in its new facility about a year ago.  I am on a reduced carbohydrate diet so I order a burrito but without the tortilla, beans, or rice - burrito meat with a little cheese on top.  In the past I have ordered their chile verde which was very good.  Tonight wanting something different, I ordered grilled chicken.  However, the chicken was mostly fat.  The waitress offered to take the item off the check but soon returned to tell us that the management would not agree.  They charged me the full price for food that was not fit to be eaten.   I will never go back there.

My first time at Tia Babe's was yesterday. I loved the beautiful building, our server was great, and I enjoyed the salsa and my burrito. (They let you add stuff to the burritos for a nominal fee. I really liked that!) I thought the prices were good, and I agree with the reviewer who mentioned the ice in the drinks: it is good!!! I'm a fan!!

I think that anyone that gives Tia Babes a bad review is someone that has not frequented her place for a long time.  I have been going to Tia Babes since I was a teenager (1980s).

Last night was no different... ordered my corn burritos and had a great time.  I even had the opportunity to give Tia Babe a hug.  This food isn't that expensive Mexican food you might get at a huge restaurant.  The food is still the small cafe feel and taste.

Now my kids go there with me when we come to Santa Paula.  I am sure that many generations have eaten there and will continue to eat there.

I think the restaurant looks awesome!  I love the fact you still use the crushed ice in the sodas.  Love ya Tia Babes!

Tia Babe's was so-so.  I gave three stars instead of two because my sister loves this place.  I could eat here again, but wouldn't be craving it anytime soon.  Salsa was good, as were their tortillas.

Visited Tia Babe's twice before writing a review. Let me say that the new restaurant is very nice. Too bad the food does not seem to be as on point. I found most dishes had a greasy flavor to them. Tasted like old grease from a fryer. The chips and salsa were okay but nothing special. The cheese enchilada was the only thing of note.  Everyone raves about the corn burritos which are served with a pale pink sauce over them. Greasy and lacking flavor, if you want good corn burritos just go to Fosters Freeze in Ventura.

Hands down the worst Mexican food I have ever eaten. My husband and I went to the new location on 10th st. When we walked in the hostess had to contemplate for a few minutes where to seat us (there were a total of 3 tables occupied in the place).

We waited a while for service. Our waiter was very nice but took forever to bring us our drinks. The salsa tasted like it had dirt in it, chips were ok. I ordered just an a la carte chicken enchilada (by this time I didn't have a good feeling about the place and was hesitant to order more), husband a combo plate. As we sat waiting we entertained ourselves by counting how many times one of the waitress' carried out peoples drinks tucked between her chest and armpit.

Plates of food being brought out looked like a ton of sauce and microwaved velveta cheese slop had been dumped on top of it. My enchilada had zero flavor and sat like a rock in my stomach. My husbands entire meal was disgusting and he didn't even finish it. We then had to ask 4 different people for our check and waited for 10 minutes. It was the first time in 10 years we didn't leave a tip.

Tia Babes is now a restaurant on 10th in Santa Paula. The food is traditional Tia Babe's and traditional fare (not so Americanized). It was my first time there and I need to return and try more in order to make a fair review. The salsa had a good kick to it and the chips were warm and addicting. The restaurant has only been open one month and could use some service organization, but that should not reflected the traditional food meals. Looking forward to my return. The margaritas I had hit the spot!
