not bad...dingy little burger stand off the beaten path. Â tacis were good. milkshake was real and great. Â But cheeseburger was terrible. just awful. Â dried out and probably old and sitting for http://awhile.it might have been cat or dog but not ground beef.
Review Source:I am admitting right up front that I did not eat at Burger Den. I visited this location strictly for it's Roadside Attraction value. This is the site of the original Del Taco, back when it was Casa Del Taco. If you care, you can check out the history of Del Taco ( http://www.deltaco.com/h… ), but my husband and I like both hitting up original locations of fast food joints and roadside attractions, so armed with our Del Taco cups from Baker, we stopped by for some photos. Â
Yeah, it's pretty run down and the lettering on the sign proclaiming the site of the original Del Taco is all but gone these days. Â The reviews say the food ain't bad, so maybe next time we'll actually grab a bite, but this time... we were back on the road.
Ever been in a situation where you thought that you would get murdered like in one of those texas chainsaw massacre movies? Yea I never did either until I came here. Â This place is in the middle of no where...yea yea whatever it's the first del taco ever WHO CARES. Â My friend wanted to come here because it was different and so we decided to stop by on the way back home from Vegas and honestly I thought it was a waste of time and money. Â We went in August and that may have made my experience worse because all the seating is outside and I don't know about you, but eating a burger in 100+ degree weather is not appetizing. Â
We got the cheeseburger combo w/ fries and a drink and the burger was a burger...nothing special about it. Â The bun wasn't soft, the meat wasn't seasoned great and was kind of tough, the cheese was kraft cheese, etc etc etc
I'll keep this short and sweet...don't waste your time...drive another 15-20 minutes and go to in-n-out. You'll thank me.
I've been wanting to check this place out during my countless drives from CA to LV, and finally decide its time. Â The service was very friendly. Â
Had carne asada tacos w/ cilantro, tomatoes, onions, sour cream and guac! Â The meat was really flavorful and tender. Â Not bad for $1.50 each. Â Also, because of the yelpings about the cookies & cream milkshake, I had one of those too. Â It was really tasty, not too sweet, nice & creamy! That was priced at $2.50!
If you're hungry, and passing through... I say give it a go! Â They have a combination of American staples with some Mexican thrown in!
P.s. Â You can use it as a pit stop for the bathroom too. Â Just ask for the keys.
Solid food and great prices, considering you're in the middle of nowhere! I volunteer at the nearby Calico archaeology site and if I want to grab a bite to eat, this is the best place in the area (avoid Peggy Sues, cause it is sooooo overpriced!!). I started coming here because of previous Yelp reviews, which have never led me astray. They were right again!
I usually just get the cheeseburger combo (incl. fries and large drink) for less than $6. The burger is a good size and tastes homemade. Fries are perfect - crispy on the outside and all fluffy and lush inside. The Oreo milkshake is AWESOME, so if you have room for dessert, get it!
Service is really friendly and the son of the owners is proud of their place, which is really nice to see. Place is clean and tidy as are the facilities. There is outdoor seating only under an awning, but I have been out there when it is 90+ degrees out, but it's not so bad if there is a light breeze.
So if you are in the area, come check this place out and get something homemade and tasty!!
Upon first look it might not look like much but the service and food way more than makes up for it. Incredibly friendly workers and delicious ice cream shakes nd chili fries. The tacos and burgers are also quality. A great place to stop by to eat going to AND back from Vegas. (For you fellow Californians) in a small town called yermo nd also known for being the original del taco. Worth the visit nd hey the Oreo shake is to die for! Check it out nd keep it alive! :)
Review Source:The first Del Taco, how can you go wrong eating at a place that was once the single and original Del Taco. Â And in a town like Yermo!!! Â It's like a double bonus on perfect. Â The food is good, not great, but certainly just as good if not better than any fast food you'd have in Barstow, etc... Â So anyway, I love their carne asada tacos, they're small, and I also love their burgers, which are pretty awesome. Â Anyway, it's a fun strange stop in a fun strange town, that could always use the business...
Review Source:This is an update. Â
I dropped by this week for lunch with coworkers. Â Had the double cheeseburger combo. Â As before, the fries were great, the burger was so-so. Â Service was quick and efficient. Â Bumped my rating up to 2 stars. Â If you're a Del Taco afficionado, drop by and see this place as it's the original Del.
Yup A-ok! Last time on our way to Vegas we stopped here but due to the holiday it was closed. Â This time on our way up to Vegas it was open :). Â I ordered the chilli cheese fries and was wanting amilikshake but apparently the military had came by earlier and bought it all lol! So even though I didn't have a chance to try one it must be good if they were sold out. Â So back to my chilli cheese fries they were only about 3.00 bucks and were good enough for me to gobble them down. Â It is for sure the original Del Taco spot since the old sign still hangs from above. Â This is a fun place to stop if you want to take a break from driving or have the time.
Review Source:Thanks for the tip, prior Yelpers, because the cookies and cream milkshake was really good.
As others have pointed out this is the original Del Taco. The guy working the window pointed out that the joint was recently featured in Hot Rod - http://www.hotrod.com/pr… - and the magazine was coming back for a full spread. Hopefully they don't choose to "improve" the property as threatened in the article but rather elect to preserve the historic landmark they've got.
Driving back home from Vegas and got stuck in the usual traffic at the Agricultural Inspection Center. As we were moving along, we spotted a sign for the Burger Den in Yermo. My girlfriend and I were getting kind of hungry and had been debating in the car where to stop and eat and after yelping this place and seeing positive reviews we decided to take the plunge.
For the record, this is the former home of the original Del Taco so just for that, we had to stop by and check it out. It is kind of in the middle of nowhere but the food is good. Per a suggestion from a Yelper we tried the cookies and cream milkshake and it was refreshing and tasty. We both got cheeseburgers and fries which were both cooked well but I think the fries were the better part of the meal. They were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
This will be a place that we will frequent often either on the way or from Vegas as the prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get
you def MUST STOP on your way to or from Vegas...the place is a tiny little place that looks like it's about to fall apart..(aka the ORIGINAL DEL TACO..still has the old sign n everything)...great prices, great food, and great customer service!! oh yes, military gets 50% off...CHECK IT OUT! =D
Review Source:We needed a quick stop for a snack and a drink on the way home from Las Vegas. This was a nice surprise. Home of the original Del Taco, this is small burger and taco stand located in the modern day ghost town of Yermo.
(Honestly, more than half of the buildings in Yermo are abandoned and slowly crumbling back into the earth. It is sad, scary and fascinating to see what happened to this community when the new highway took away all of the tourists and their cars. This used to be the famous highway 66.)
The menu is basic but solid. The prices low and the staff amazingly friendly. Good green sauce for the tacos and a tasty milkshake.
HIDDEN GEM ALERT!
BEST COOKIES-N-CREAM MILKSHAKE EVER! Â
This place is one of my MANDATORY stops on the way to Vegas. Â It's a small little shack in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by miles of dusty roads in the 3rd world town of Yermo! Â The food is pretty damn good, but I come here mainly for the milkshakes. They have a very extensive menu with burgers, tacos, sandwiches, burritos, etc.
And just a side note... this little shack is the ORIGINAL place Del Taco. Â It all started from this location before it went big time! Â You can actually find the founder of Del Taco about 10 miles south. Â He actually owns and works at his own Del Taco of the Lenwood exit off the 15 freeway.
