Pupusas are delicious and the curtido is the best !!

This is an awesome little place to stop when you are driving on the five (Hwy 5 for all you non Californians)  and are near Buttonwillo. There is also a Tita's restaurant about one hundred miles north of the truck but I recommend the truck because the service is faster and the food is cheaper.

This food truck has a combination of El Salvadorian and Mexican food, both of which are pretty good. I have had a couple pupusas and a few tacos. I recommend the chicharron pupusa (Pork and cheese) and for the tacos I suggest lengua (Beef tounge) or tripas (small intestines) tacos. The portions for the pupusas are huge and of course served with Curtido, pickled cabbage to accompany the pupusa. at the truck you will find condiments such as two different salsas, cilantro, radishes, grilled onions and jalapeno and the best part, free beans to go with your meal.

When you are traveling this is a great place to get a bite to eat to break up the monotony of fast food places. If you don't speak any Spanish the interactions with the food truck ladies maybe a little difficult but they are very friendly. You might want to avoid this place late at night as there are some interesting characters that visit the truck. I have had no problem with any of the people that frequent this place late at night and the wild conversations they may propose can often provide some entertainment while your eating.

Next time you are on the five and near Buttonwillo pass by McDonalds and try Tita's!

On my drive up Hwy 5 I wanted to stop at a non-chain restaurant for breakfast. For almost $4 I thought the pupusa price was high but it did end up being quite large. We ordered the revuelta since it was the only one with meat but they either forgot the chicharones or they chopped it so tiny it gets lost in the cheese. Pupusa lovers would approve with the gooey cheese and good masa texture.

We also ordered a couple carnitas tacos which were delicious. I may go back for their tacos and burritos next time I stop in the area, but prices weren't necessarily cheap for a truck in Buttonwilla.

Fresh, hand made pupusas made our drive up North more bearable.  We saw the truck after getting gas across the street and ordered three pupusas - a cheese, a squash and a pork.  They were as big as the paper plate! Way bigger than the ones at the Torrance Farmer's Market - also the slaw they gave wasn't too spicy or sour.  We prob waited 12- 15 minutes for our food and we devoured the food when it was ready.

Overall, a great find in the middle of nowhere.

Probably the best Papusas I ever had. If you like Salvadorian or Mexican Food you gotta try it.

On our way home from LA to the Bay, we stopped to get pupusas at the truck- and boy did they deliver!!! Their pupusas were absolutely delicious and as a Salvadoran, I have eaten MANY a pupusa. Price was fair, service was great, and the food superb. It's such a refreshing alternative to the fast food joints all along the I-5. We passed through in May and for whatever reason, there weren't any flies. Either they've dealt with the problem mentioned by other reviewers or the flies are seasonal. Either way, we enjoyed a peaceful lunch together and had no complaints. Yuummmmm! Wish I could have some right now!

Get the pupusas to go. The area usually stinks outside because of the cows in the area. Cheese pupusa is decent. A nice change from the typical fast food. Eat in the car though cuz flies will try to attack you and your foodski.

The tacos were good and okay...the service however was horrible and nasty.  First they tried to over-charge us despite using a calculator and then got weird when it was mentioned. Then when asked for salsa they said it was on the table but it wasn't there...a second inquiry was greeted with the same attitude.  Holy hell...it's a taco truck and you can't provide salsa? W.T.F.

Go across the way to the taco truck near the gas station.

p.s. apparently Argentinian accents in Spanish piss off Salvadorians.

The Tita's Truck stop is my late night taco stop. I read the reviews and maybe since I usually go at night I don't see flies, the tables might not be really clean but it might be because there are always people coming and going. I always see truck drivers stop there and park their trucks just to the side of it. It isn't designated parking but there is plenty of room if you're just stopping for a little bit and going.

It is owned by the same people the own the Tita's restaurant just down the road. I prefer the restaurant over the truck stop, but when they are the only ones open its a good choice.

They usually make my orders fast and their tacos are only $1.25 for any time chicken, steak, langua, whatever. I've had the Menudo too and that was awesome. They have the Supreme Burrito too and it' is HUGE and definetly worth the price. They don't accept credit cards there so make sure you have cash. The restaurant does but the truck doesn't.

Ah, Buttonwillow - my first pit stop on a drive home to the Bay. I must be in such a hurry to get the heck outta dodge (Bako) that I forget to eat before I leave!

There's two Tita's establishments on this stretch of road. One is a dine in restaurant a little down the street and the other is this truck near the 5 north on ramp. The restaurant has a drive thru however, it's beyond slow! If you need to stop, dine, and stretch, the restaurant is a good bet. If you want a quick bite, stop at the truck. I have to warn that the truck doesn't really have a parking area - they have a bumpy dirt lot next to the truck as parking.

The food is mostly Salvadoran with a mix of tacos and burritos. This was my first pupusa experience and meh, it's not my thing. Their pupusas were cooked well - nothing was raw, burned, overcooked. The flavor mix just didn't do it for me. The tacos and burritos were top notch, though. We ordered five tacos and a carne asada burrito for about $12.

The taco meat was seasoned well - a bit on the dry side but very edible. They were generous with their portions, too! The tacos come dry - there's a salsa bar with verde, rojo salsas, and cilantro that you can dress up your tacos. Beware the sauce - it packs some great chili flavors and heat! The burrito's sized rivaled that of the San Francisco super burrito. It was packed with meat, beans, rice, sour cream, and all the fixins you can think of. It wasn't mixed together well so you're never sure what part of the burrito you'll get with every bite! Take a side of salsa to drizzle on the burrito for some heat (note - you might not want to do this while driving. The salsa has an uncanny ability to hit you in the eye if you hit a bump).

I highly recommend this truck, it's a much needed relief from all the overpriced mediocre fast food chains that rule the 5.

On another long drive back up to the Bay Area, we stopped in Buttonwillow, I have always loved that name. I was not in the mood for the normal fast food and I remember seeing on yelp or another food website something about a pupusa place right off I5.

They had a good amount of choices on their menu, tacos, burritos, tortas, pupusas, and more. I was in the mood for pupusas. One lesson I really need to learn about pupusas, I can't eat two. One pupusa is enough to fill me up. I think it is the cheese. But I didn't remember this so I ordered two, flower and cheese, and squash and cheese. $2.75 each, cheap meal! Both of which were filling (two meals) and quite good. I am no pupusa expert so I can't really judge the quality too much. She did make them fresh when I ordered them and packed them very nicely with fork and knife included (I took them to-go).

The only con about Tita's would be the flys.... so many flies... I think I really hate flies... they were very annoying when I was waiting for the food. If I had eaten there, it would not have been a pleasant meal. One star off for the flies.

There is a Tita's restaurant just a little further down, across the street from McD but I am uncertain as to whether or not it is owned by the same people.

On the way back from San Diego this past weekend, we made a stop at Junction 58 in Buttonwillow. We were about to eat at Carls Jr, but my bf decided he wanted to try the taco truck across the street from the Chevron gas station. Eating at a taco truck is just one of those things I DO NOT do. But I knew he really wanted to try it, so i sucked it up and went along with it.

My preconceptions was that the food was going to be nasty and I was going to starve for the rest of the night cause I wouldn't want to eat it. The food was actually surprising good though? We shared a Carne Asada Burrito ($6). That thing was ginormous. I was pretty full after just eating my half of the burrito. There was a lot of meat on my side of the burrito although my bf said that his was filled with beans! :) haha

I definitely want to try their tacos and other things the next time I drive past there. Everyone's food around us looked delicious!

I gave them -1 star for having a few pieces of cilantro in my burrito when we asked for no cilantro (I HATE cilantro!) And the hot sauce was kinda nasty. I think Chipotle still has the BEST hot sauce! :)

    This place is CASH ONLY!

It's nice that this truck usually serves the Buttonwillow Raceways on days with events that have more publicity so you can grab some delicious Mexican food on the cheap while still at the track.

I agree with Ryan that the portions are huge, prices are very cheap (around $4-5 for most items) and they have great flavor (especially the beef tongue burrito!) as well as authentic flavor. Definitely something to look forward to when I go to Buttonwillow.

They usually serve off the freeway exit of 58 during days when they are not at the track.

Holy sweet baby jesus, I have found el breakfast burrito supremo!  El padre de todo los burritos de breakfast!  I don't speak much Spanish as you can tell... but what I don't know about Spanish, I more than make up for in knowledge of breakfast burrito joints.

Let's see how it stacked up against the requirements:

-1- size -- the f-ing thing weighed at least 3-4 pounds.  It was ginormous!

    -2- price -- $5.99?  I can handle that.

    -3- indigestion? -- 24 hours' worth, baby!

-4- flavor -- Bombay like the thrilla in manilla!  Eggs, choice of bacon or ham (I went ham, and they were big old chunklets of ham to boot!), refried beans (not usually in my burritos, but hey, this is a working man's  breakfast), rice (perfectly flavored, I've never enjoyed rice in a burrito like this... it tasted like dirty rice from jambalaya), and some type of nice and spicy salsa.

In short, if you're driving the 5 and it's breakfast time, hit this place up for sure.  Take it to go and eat in the car, because a) it's really hot in Buttonwillow, wherever that is), and b) there are TONS of flies everywhere.  The people who live there must be used to it, but I am certainly not.  But the staff is friendly and tries to keep things clean... there was a guy scrubbing the truck, although it already looked pretty clean to me...

The gf got a papusa.  Thought it would've been good, since it's in the name.  She ordered the revuelta (pork and cheese), but it only had cheese... and too much cheese at that.  Inedible.  Couldn't even taste the papusa itself.  I consider myself a papusa connoisseur, and this was absolutely not up to par.  Even if it IS in the middle of an unmarked dust parking lot in the middle of central Cali.

Nonetheless, 3 stars... great prices, and a helluva breakfast burrito!
