Nice fast service. Food is just OK. It was not horrible like other places I have tried but not great either. Chicken Tikka Massala had ketchup taste to it. Asked for number three but not spicy enough and a bit bland. Vegetable Samosas were cold on inside and hot on outside. Staff was very nice & attentive but I will likely not return as I wanted food Indian food. .

Food is pretty tasty!  Buffet has decent selection, although the temperature can border on luke-warm.  My only pet peeve, and this has happened 2 out of the 3 times that I've been here to eat, is that they use a spray bottle with Lysol in it to clean tables after guests leave.  Although I appreciate a clean table, I don't like smelling Lysol when I'm eating....kinda unappetizing:/

My first impression of Top of India was a good one based on the atmosphere and new renovation. Having lived in southern California and now San Francisco I've been fortunate to eat at some pretty savory spots. The dining room was empty when we came in, the staff was nice and service was somewhat prompt, however the buffet here was about average in taste. 11 hours and 5 bathroom stops later I now regret not ordering fresh hot food off the menu. Myself and another meat eater are now suffering. The two vegetarians with us have gas but are otherwise okay. Not sure the holding temperatures were correct on the food. It must have been the chicken masala as I had two servings of it and now my stomach is feeling awful at 1:30 am. I wanted so badly to give this restaurant a good review which is why you are getting 3 stars. The food poisoned buffet gets 1 star however.

The recently remodeled interior makes for a more comfortable dining experience; As others have said, don't let the tired exterior keep you from visiting.  Hands down the best atmosphere of all the Indian restaurants in town.

Highlights in my mind re: their lunch buffet $10
    - salad bar includes fresh romaine or leaf lettuce (vs iceberg), tomato and cucumber
    - goat curry (not just a chicken-heavy lunch buffet)
    - numerous vegetarian entrees
    - genuinely spiced
    - gulab jamun is served hot and fresh (not stale and cold like at many other places)
    - only place in town I've seen offer carrot halwa
    - available 7 days a week

    Cons of the buffet:
    - many of the items are a tad heavy on the salt
    - naan is hit or miss, typically a thick doughy miss
    - tandoori chicken is somewhat wet and always seems a bit off... maybe it's a regional thing

Dinner entrees are comparable to other Indian venues in town; Portions seem a touch small in comparison to the price, but are well-executed.  Be mindful that heat levels here are not dumbed down.

Service +/- depending on who's minding the store, so to speak.  Altogether a friendly family-owned establishment.

I would heartily recommend this restaurant to a friend.

REALLY nice environment, very modern. The chicken tikka masala was a little too tomatoey for my taste but the tandoori chicken was to DIE FOR! yum! :) The ONION NAAN was the best naan I've ever had.

If there is one cuisine that I am most familiar with it has to be Indian - I have been on a culinary tour of India and have eaten at over 75 different Indian restaurants throughout the country. With that being said, I will also say that I have eaten here before and thought it was just average Indian but the other night  I had a fantastic meal that is worthy of a positive yelp review.

They have completely remodeled the interior to a bright, very modern looking restaurant, personally I didn't think it really fit the theme but my friends all enjoyed it. The place was not very busy but the service was rather lackluster and slow to acknowledge the patrons needs or requests so they get -1 star for that.

For Dinner I split the house special Thali (usually one step up from the buffet so I wasn't expecting much) and was very impressed. We started off with a large platter of Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka and Lamb Tikka it was moist and  flavorful with just the right amount of spice (heat). It was very good. The main platter had a very rich/creamy Chicken Korma that was reminded me of how Korma's are cooked in England, although not exactly traditional to India/Pakistan it was good. The second main entree was a Rogan Josh, it was a fiery red color which symbolizes more of a Pakistani influence again a very good dish.

The sides were a Baingan Bartha which was in the Punjabi Style and on the better ones I have eaten. The Basmati rice was perfectly cooked, the Naan bread was excellent (so many Indian places screw this up). However the raita was very plain and I could not discern much coriander, cumin or mint in it. They also served gulab jamun for dessert and yes they did use real rose-water. Another plus in my book.

Overall the food was very good and I would not hesitate to return. The service was slightly lacking and the raita needs help but after a few more visits they may be move into the best Indian restaurant in Spokane.

PS Anyone who reviews an Indian restaurant on their buffet has absolutely no clue about the restaurant business or reviewing. Do you really expect fantastic food on a slow moving buffet where the owners are trying to cut costs?

Came for the buffet around 2pm which might be a reasonable excuse for the lack of meat in the pans. We were the only customers in the place...

Lets start with the good; flavors were excellent and as far as I could tell everything was made from scratch (big chunks of spices like real Indian dishes should have)

We pulled the last remaining pieces of meat out of the serving pans and nothing but the Naan was replaced. Though the dining room furniture was in good repair, the bathroom (where employees go to wash up) was simply aweful! Trash can overflowing with paper towels, empty soap dispenser, empty towel dispenser, dirty floor and sink...

Maybe as a carryout I'd consider eating with them again...

We made a detour to the Valley on our way from Sandpoint to Everett, to quench our Indian food craving. We were glad we did, this food was delightful. We typically prefer to order hot, but went with the mild buffet because everything was fresh and looked so beautiful. Nothing was overcooked; the taste was authentic and perfectly flavorful. The decor and atmosphere were lovely. We also ordered some butter chicken to go, and it was excellent. Thank you!

first time in an Indian resturant here in the states.  I was not impressed.  We ordered the house combo special - $40 for two ppl.  Had a good variety but frankly, my wife cooks better indian than this place.  The chicken was dry and overcooked, the rice was cheap & old Basmati (they salted it & no saffron at all).  Yeah, the atmosphere is kinda cool with the bollywood thing going on.

Service was great - a little pricy for food served on a metal cafeteria tray.

Tried the lunch buffet here. The place smells like a sour rag, there were what appeared to be rat holes in the walls, our table was sticky, the silverware had food caked on it, and the buffet plates had I Can't Believe It's Not Butter still adhered to them like some primordial ooze. Never again, we were sick after we left.

This was an interesting experience.  It was traditional but I'll agree with Scott, the food at the buffet seemed to be sitting comfortable in their trays for sometime before I gave them a good stir.

I thought the flavor of the food was pretty good though and I like the family run feel of it.  They had some Indian movies playing in the background that kept things pretty entertaining.  The buffet was a steal too, it was less than $10 all you can eat.  Try topping that.

Went here for the buffet and well it was the worst experience for Indian food I have ever experienced.  To start all the plates had old caked-on food stuck to them.  Literally there was a yellowish goo on the plate.  I had to go through several plates to find one that was "clean."  The Butter Chicken was the worst I have ever tasted.  The Chicken Curry, of course, had to have bones in it and was just not that tasteful.  The naan was acceptable and the rice was ok, but the rest was just real bad.

Overall my suggestion for Indian food when visiting the greater Inland Northwest is to fly to Seattle.  The other Indian places in Spokane are equally bad.
