Back in time, when I thought I knew everything, my introduction to stone crab was at Joe's and I thought they were the best.
The Triad blows Joe's right out of the water. Â It's way better - obviously cheaper, but the crabs taste like the boat just pulled up to the dock, so screw the price. Â Freshness is guaranteed.
Overlooking a channel in the Everglades, off the beaten path. Â No crowds, no wait. Â We sat at a picnic table drinking beers diving into these bad boys - soaking them in drawn butter and unashamed of the mess we were creating. Â The side orders are a joke - not that they were bad, but when you can indulge in all-you-can-eat stone crab, the sides are merely an after thought.
Key lime pie was fresh and home-made. Â
It's not a bad ride out here from Miami-Fort Launderdale. Â Definitely worth a visit.
When I went here, there was a sign that said "Triad Seafood, Open for breakfast and lunch." Â Except, there was a wooden board unevenly nailed over the part that said "breakfast and."
That pretty much tells you what you need to know about the atmosphere of the place. Â It's an absolute dive, and it doesn't come off like a dive bar that intentionally tries to be dive-y as part of the character... it really seems like they don't give a damn about appearances. Â (Tip: If you're fussy about bathrooms, be advised that the quality of the bathroom is exactly what you would expect from a place like this.)
Still, it's on the water, and sitting outside is pleasant enough.
I ordered fried conch with fries. Â I'd never had conch before, and until later reading Wikipedia was unaware that it's actually a snail. Â I thought it was a crab. Â The conch comes in bite-sized pieces and is all right, although like with much fried seafood you can't taste a whole lot beyond the fried batter. Â The tartar sauce that came with it was pretty good; I wonder if it's homemade.
The ketchup was another story. Â It tasted unlike any other ketchup I've ever had. Â I asked the waitress if it was homemade, but she said it wasn't... which made me wonder if the ketchup had maybe gone bad somehow. Â I stopped eating it at that point.
My wife got the fried blue crab which she liked; my father ordered all-you-can eat stone crab claws, which he liked. Â Personally, I didn't like the fact that they were served chilled (this may be typical of stone crab claws; I honestly don't know). Â The claws are available in medium, large and jumbo sizes and come with a medium, large or jumbo price tag. Â My mother, on the other hand, got a fried fish sandwich that was absolutely fishy and awful.
All in all, it seemed the food was a real mixed bag. Â Not consistent enough to award more than three stars to.
This is a dive. Â Do not expect anything other than food. Â I had the all you can eat Stone Crabs Large. Â The price was $63 the day I was there. Â Stone Crabs are market price on the menu. Â I must say the stone crabs where 5 stars. Â They kept them coming as long as you wanted to eat. Â In some places like this they will slow the service down to a point you just give up. Â They did not. Â Why did I get the all you can eat? Â Well 5 claws just did not seem enough for me. Â And since I ate like 15 it turned out to be an OK deal. Â The sides are the usual in a fish joint coleslaw, hush puppies, beans, etc. Â But who comes here for slaw? Â I would have given them 5 stars but Mrs K. grouper sandwich was really a disaster. Â Since she does not yelp I knocked it down 1 star. Â If I had the sandwich I would have given the place one star it was that bad. Â
Being from the "north" I do not like my tea sweet.  The tea was so weak I  should have just had water.  Don't know why it was so weak but it was.  My son the Famous Chip K had conch fritter.  It was good.  His Mrs K had the fried blue soft shell crab.  It was looked good to me but I did not have a taste.  And believe me if it was not good she would have said something.  She is not one to hold back an opinion.  While Everglade city is not close to Naples if I ever need a stone crab fix again I will be back.  But Mrs K is going to have to get something other than the grouper.
Maybe because we went there just after Holidays, stone crab was kind of semi-frozen, not fresh at all (but, sometimes Joe's serves this quality stone crabs too). Dipping is not so impressive; City Seafood has better tasting mustard-mayonnaise based dip for stone crab. Deep-fries are a little too oily.
Review Source:Excellent Seafood !!! Â We were tourists and took this place on a tip from a local. Â The food turned out to be EXCELLENT! Â And the restaurant is located right on the water (Florida Everglades) with an awesome view that looks like something from a movie or disneyland. Â Every table was full but there was no line, so we were seated quickly. Â We had the crab legs, grouper fish, hush puppies, and french fries. Â The french fries were great - whatever they do to them, these french fries are really really good and go great with seafood. Â The crab legs were the best I've ever had and the grouper fish was very good. Â If I go back to the Everglades, I will definitely go back to this place.
