Tuacahn is hands-down my favorite amphitheater. Â It's situated between stunning red rock cliffs, and as you get there and the sun is setting, then later as the sky gets starry, it really is just an incredible place to spend an evening. Â Not only are the surrounding cliffs breathtaking, but the production quality is top notch. Â We went this summer to see Aladdin, and I was blown away! Â Live camels, a magic carpet that flies over the audience, pyrotechnics, fireworks, a water show, even a 3D scene complete with 3D glasses--at live theater! Aside from the props and special effects, the quality of the talent was truly remarkable. Â Many of the actors have either performed on Broadway or with Broadway national tours. Â There are also actors from the Tuacahn academy for the performing arts which is adjacent to the theater complex. Â
Just a couple of tips: Â There really isn't a bad seat in the place, so if you're interested in saving a few dollars, go ahead and sit in the back off to the side. Â You'll be able to see just fine. Â Also, bring cold drinks! Â Even once the sun goes down, it can stay HOT. Â The locals were easy to spot--they were the ones with misting spray bottles and and icy water bottles and booster cushions for the kids, while all the out-of-towners were melting. Â There is a decent snack bar though with reasonable prices. Â Also, a tip on the bathroom situation at intermission...the lines at the closest bathrooms were a mile long, and there were even ushers telling people that there were additional bathrooms in the adjacent high school and no one was going. Â It was bizarre. All in all, I couldn't be happier with our experience here. Â I hope to catch a show every summer.
Tuacahn is a large outdoor amphitheater surround by a beautiful red rock canyon--providing a breathtaking natural backdrop as Steve commented. As a theater venue Tuacahn is definitely one of the most impressive I've been to. They have an elaborate stage that can flood instantly with water, excellent lighting and great sound. Unfortunately being outdoors in Southern Utah, Tuacahn is very warm in the summer time. Shows usually begin close to sunset though, which helps keep the theater a little cooler. But be prepared to sweat and have a fan and water bottle to help keep you cool. If you are particular sensitive to the heat try and catch a show earlier in the summer, like in June rather than in August. Last year we saw Disney's Tarzan at Tuacahn. It was a great performance and we really enjoyed it. This year we have tickets for the Little Mermaid. I'm excited to see another performance at the amazing Tuacahn amphitheater.
