I am finished with this place. Â We live just down the road and we used to stop in frequently, in past years, for lunch and sometimes for dinner. We used to like the specials they had. Â They no longer offer them. The food this year has just been terrible and the prices are high for the food and the drinks.
I will only review my last two experiences just so you can get the point. Â Last night my wife, my brother in law, Â his wife, and I decided to pop in for a drink and then decide what to do for dinner. Â So we we ordered drinks and waited and waited for our drinks to come. We could see they were sitting on the bar. Â We were watching the ice melt. My sister in law finally had enough and got up, took the drinks off the bar, and served us. We decided we would order another round of drinks and order some food. Â We had to flag down our waitress since she repeatedly walked by our table without bothering to make any eye contact or ask us if we needed another drink or wanted to order food.
We get our drinks and lo and behold this man starts doing one arm push ups right in the middle of the floor while his drunken entourage cheers him on. This is all done in front of the owner and wait staff without a word being said. Are you kidding me? Then came the how many regular push ups can we do session. Customers had to walk around the guy and the owner and wait staff watched and again never said a thing. Fortunately they got tired and sat down at their table and drank. I was impressed however that the guy could do about 25 push ups without losing his dinner That was a fine dining experience. Â
My sister in law requested bread and we ordered steamers to share for starters The streamers came, the bread did not, and they were placed in the middle of the table by someone in the kitchen staff who abruptly turned and left without saying a word We had no plates or napkins and I was calling and calling for him to stop. He finally did and got our waitress for the bread and plates, but no napkins. When the entrees came later and we were able to get napkins. Â
My brother in law got the daily special, liver and onions. Â The liver was so over cooked you could use it for soles on your shoe. Â The burnt nasty flavor was an additional bonus. My wife ordered shrimp and broccoli. Â Hers came with 4 shrimp, mushy broccoli, and the noodles were swimming in a very salty garlic sauce. Â I ordered linguini with clam sauce. Â the linguini was way overlooked and the meal was unbelievably salty. It looked like it sat under a heat lamp for a half an hour since the top was dried out. Â My sister in law got something over egg noodles and the noodles were latterly swimming in butter. Â We all hated our meals. Â I have had less salt eating salt cured country ham. My wife and I were up all night drinking water. Â
A few days prior we stopped in and I ordered the German pork chop and my wife ordered the chicken milanese. Â My pork chop was way overlooked and resembled a hockey puck with grill marks. When my wife's plate came I was shocked at the presentation. The dish looked exactly like the fake vomit you get at a joke store. I was going to take a picture of it, but I did not want to ruin her meal. When she stopped eating she said it was ok but she actually thought the same thing. I swear it looked just like it. Â Unbelievable. Â
Anyway, we are not going back again. We had enough of the bad food and high prices. My brother in law has had enough too. Â He related that his last few experiences were bad too and when he got his check for $90.00 for 4 drinks and 2 lousy specials he was pissed. Â He also was tired of the higher prices, lousy food, and apathetic service by an untrained wait staff that does not know the menu. Â Ask a waiter at Scojos about anything on the menu and you will see the difference.
Gone are the nightly specials, the 2 for twenty, any fresh food, etc, etc.. Everything tastes frozen It is a shame you can not get fresh local seafood and produce being in a shore town where these ingredients are plentiful.
Horrendous.....
First let me say maybe my husband and I were duped into thinking this place was worth it from previous visits we experienced.
What happened?
So my husband and I decide to eat here for our anniversary last night. Â We walked in and we were not greeted by anyone, she was probably smoking a cigarette, but I'll get into that later. Â Some guy sits us and states he is our waiter. Â We ask for a water because we are still deciding on a bottle of wine. Â When he came back we should have left then. Â Our water glasses had a big white plastic straw in them. Â We then asked our waiter whats your featured wine? (at the top of the menu it states 1/2 price featured bottle of wine on Thursdays). Â He had no idea. Â Let me tie in here that in no way do I blame the waiter but I do blame management and who trained the poor kid. Â
Ok so then we order an appetizer of clams casino and a bottle of wine. Â Also might I add that we are the only people in the dining room...which now to me is not so shocking. Â The clams casino were okay, I've had better but they tasted good and probably the only good review i have for this restaurant. Â Oh and the waiter never came out to ask how the appetizer was. Â I dont think he realized he needed to work for a tip. Â
Next up salads, I don't have words, only that presentation goes a long way for people and i started feeling like I was at a diner. Â Again he never came out to see how we were. Â Here's dinner, ugh. Â I ordered Crab penne vodka, I asked the waiter which do you think I would like more the Crab penne with white wine and garlic or do you have really good vodka sauce. Â He raved about the vodka sauce so I went with it. Â My dinner was dried out, the crab meat i don't know other then I'm surprised I'm not sick today. Â It looked like it sat under the light on the line for an hour. I mixed it around to get the vision of it out of my head and took a bite. Â Burnt....I tasted burnt bottom of pan. Â Ohhhh. Â Throughout this whole experience my husband and I never wanted to complain, but we were losing it. Â My husband tasted it, agreed with me, and said to give it to him. Â We were trying to enjoy ourselves without complaining. Â He attempted to eat my disgusting dinner, and he gave me his. Â He ordered crab cakes they were ok but only after i drowned them in sauce. Â
I'm not going to deny that this place is a great place to grab a beer, an appetizer, or a burger.
They should just stick to that, their dinner atmosphere it terrible and should not exist.
As we walked out we asked the hostess to come over and explain our bill. Â She acted as if we were bothering her. We ordered the 1/2 price bottle of wine for Thursdays and i had a http://restaurant.com giftcard, but we only had the one discount. Â She rudely stated "you cant have both!!" Â Â Â Â Â Â I lost it.
First off that can be clearly stated in a normal tone and professionally. Â That's understandable to have only one but I don't feel being talked to so rudely is appropriate.
I told this woman who reeked of cigarette smoke about our bad experience we had in the dining room and she didn't even care or want to hear it......customer service what a joke!!
To management:
You really should train your staff from the kitchen to the front alot better
I understand you had to deal with sandy, but alot of other restaurants had to rebuild. Â I know for a fact they are trying to get customers in their restaurants not trying to lose them
As I stated earlier presentation is huge!
Customer service is extremely important!!
and the taste of your food im pretty sure matters....but you tell me
You will lose locals, except for your bar crowd who like a good beer special and 1/2 price apps.
for the rest of the summer you may get tourists but they will learn very fast that this place is not worth it
and then what do you have left?
what a shame
Let me start by saying some of the food I`ve had such as the Chicken Parm is very good compared to other places nearby. This is Romeos formerly of Romeo on LBI. They use that on their website & menu as some sort of moniker as quality & good.
Why? It`s not like the former chef at Le Cirque is now in town is it?
The service from the waitstaff on the occassions I went is usually very pleasant and there is no knock on anytime we had waiter/tress service.
I agree with others that the host/greeting area should be more on top of things, ready to seat you.Several times we had to peeek around a corner to find someone to sit us or a busy waitress passed by and acknowledged us and summoned a host.
Anytime we`ve eaten there,we were mostly satisfied with the food quality, and as others said,I agree that the food out of the freezer (mostly appetizers) is off putting.
The ONLY reason we`ve gone back multiple times is usually it was our only option in the area on a given night.
I feel it is expensive for the area. The drinks & food are too pricey for what the area warrants.I`m sure they aren`t paying midtown rents so why charge midtown prices?
(seems to be a family business-so probably the family management team is overpaid and needs to charge higher would be my guess). Even on some buy one get one 1/2 off nights our bill was $75-90 for dinner for 2 no wine and a few beers.chicken parm?
They have a few areas the sit down rest, the `bar` rest side. They have anice facility could /should do more to attract more people in..It is usually slow/dead. SOmetimes we were willing to go and were off put by the 1 or 2 patron cars we saw we just don`t vibe when its really slow.I think if they did some research or hired a consultant they would learn about demographics, trim some fat and get realistic.Maybe Ramsay or Levime should film Kitchen Nightmares here and turn it around!
It`s off the beaten path and my advice is stay off that path until they stop living on some prior self imposed greatness elsewhere.
This place should be a gold mine. Nice space. Fantastic location. But then unfortunately, eventually the food arrives.
Having given this place a few shots, the service is apathetic and very slow. Plus, the food thoroughly sucks. Nothing is even close to fresh. They do have a nice bar with decent bartenders.
It's a shame in better hands, given the lack of formidable competition in the area, this should be a booming, go-to place. But unfortunately its more like a "stay-away from" place.
Just generally an unfortunately lousy dining experience!
No fresh food here - it all came frozen in bags. Bagged frozen shrimp, filets, onion rings, fries, etc. Want a NY Strip steak? $28.00. That's about $10 more than you'd pay in NY. They haven't a clue what "medium rare" means. Eveything is cooked to death, except the fries. When you dinnerware comes rolled up in the paper napkin, you know your at a "family" place at best. So why the high prices on all the entrees? Every entree was over-priced by a third or more. Bad food, bad preparation, noisy hectic atmosphere, and confused staff.
Review Source:I absolutely love this restaurant. My dad lives down the street and we go every visit. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, the location doesn't get any better, and the food is wonderful. My son loves the fried shrimp, and their crabcakes are hands down the best I have ever had. I've tried a lot of things on their menu over the years and am never disappointed. Wonderful place.
Review Source:We had about 26 people after a funeral. Â We were easily accommodated. Â The place seems like it's hopping in the Summer, but as it was Winter, there was only 1 other small party.
The waitress was very nice and ran around helping everyone. Â She did a fantastic job. Â The place itself is very nice. Â Large dining area in one room and the other rooms houses a large bar and booth seating.
The food was very good. Â I had the broiled basa with mashed potatoes. Â The fish was fresh and the potatoes were very good. Â I also had the split pea soup which was very good. Â For dessert we were given a warm apple crisp, this went over very well. Â It was enjoyed by all.
For starters, we walked in this place for the first time and we were not greeted. The gentleman just asked how many people in the party. The waitress is nice and took our drink order. They have kid menus to keep the kids entertained which is good. Since I am with my family, I am in the dining area which is spacious and the lighting is dim which is nice. The specialty drink "mango mai tai" was very good. The appetizer of shrimp, oysters were good. The fried mozzarella were ok. The portions for the kids dinner were large. (they had burgers with fries). The rib eye steak was bland not flavorful (it was masked by an overload of onions and mushroom). In the end, this place has good seafood but steaks are not their specialty. 3 appetizers, 2 adult entrees, 3 kids meals, 4 drinks and the tip came out to $172.00. You decide if it's pricey or not.
