Gary knows how to cook BBQ. This place is spotless clean, well run, and has good Q. Ribs are my favorite, but turkey and sausage are good too. I have eaten here many, many times and have never been disappointed.
They have strange hours and are closed the month of August, but it is worth the wait and the trip.
#1 BBQ in the state. Wonderful environment, Head Country is always on the table, I don't know how they keep all the antiques and coca-cola memorbilla from falling off the walls. This joint has an authentic Oklahoma BBQ taste. Can't beat the Rib Dinner with double okra comes with Oklahoma Toast & honey...served with a cold IBC to wash it all down with. Â There is only one- Turkey Creek.
Review Source:Mateo B (AKA Matt B), I don't know what your hangup is about Turkey Creek but I at least try to not curse. I'll just say that I completely disagree with your review and absolutely love Turkey Creek BBQ. Everyone knows that there are generally 4 kinds of BBQ and many variations of each, so saying that you grew up in Texas knowing what BBQ *should* taste like is ridiculous.
The BBQ from Turkey Creek is all about the flavor of the meat. The ribs are medium smoked and the brisket and turkey are light to medium smoked. None of the meats are very greasy, some would even say a bit on the dry side but I actually like this as I can taste meat and not fat. The sides are really good IMO considering that most sides are just filler. My favorites are the potato salad, french fries and fried okra. The baked beans are good, just not great. The house sauce is somewhat sweet with a slight bitter touch on top. Like I said though, it's all about the meat and I can eat any of it with no sauce. The ribs maintain their smoked flavor even to the next day in the fridge; I've often eaten the takeout leftover ribs cold!!!
The reason for the -1 star is because of the hours and the drive away from Enid. Turkey Creek BBQ is a family owned restaurant; the thing is that they have other jobs as well (I believe they are farmers) so they are open Wednesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner. They also close for the summer from July through September. The way around it all is to just pick up a menu when you go so you know when they're open and if you have a short lunch hour then just call your order in before departing.
Another f----ing terrible excuse for barbeque. Â I say this not just because I grew up in Texas knowing what bbq *should* taste like, but also because my first foray into smoking with my new smoker turned out better than the sub-Rib Crib shit this place turns out at a premium price. Â This, of course, assumes that the doors are open when you get there after driving 20 minutes from Enid because you were promised something amazing. Â Their hours / days of service seem to allude even the most clever of locals and the food is not worth the price/drive.
So far Phil's is the best BBQ we've had within 20 minutes. Â Hopeful that this new Elmer's will be a bit better, but who knows...it's had a "Opening soon" sign out front for several months.
Excellent texas style BBQ. They have weird hours (closed for a few weeks during the summer) so check ahead before making the drive out there but if they're open it's well worth the trip. Additionally remember to bring some cash (cash only) as I've been let down by the ATM in the gas station next door. Hands down the best brisket you can buy around Enid. I recommend getting a combo and trying out the smoked pork loin or smoked turkey breast as well (I can't believe more places don't cook turkey like this). The sides are ok, but they mostly consist of some starchy vegetable deep fried. Additionally, it doesn't matter that the BBQ sauce is only good and not exceptional because at Turkey Creek the meat is the star not the sauce.
Review Source:This is the best BBQ in Northwest Oklahoma... but it in no way stacks up to any other respectable BBQ joint in the south. The ribs are THE item to get on the menu.... please do not waste time on the brisket, pork, turkey, etc. Sides are good, and they serve alcohol in a koozie that I plan on stealing someday. CASH ONLY!!!
Review Source:This not a fancy place but it is clean and has great service.
If you like BBQ, try Turkey Creek. The rule is, they serve til they run out. On Saturdays, that can be as early as 7pm. Call ahead to make sure they are still open.
Portions are generous, prices and good and the BBQ is sensational. They make it all themselves and I believe they use Head Country BBQ sauce from out of Ponce City. Give it a try.
BTW, the place is on the right, just next to the service station when you are coming from Enid. The sign is faded but everyone in town will point it out if asked.
I absolutely love this place. Â This is one of the best BBQ places I've ever been too. Â I get the full rack of ribs every time. Â I highly recommend this place if you love a full meal centered around ribs. Â My wife loves their other entrees. Â They have brisket, chicken, pork, and all kinds of awesome sides. Â I leave full and happy every time.
The only negative I have is that they close seasonally for family vacations. Â Just call to make sure they are there before you head out for dinner.
