First of all this place is hidden. Â Find it and you will be happy you did!
The bartender was accommodating and the chef will make anything they have on the menu Gluten Free if he can! Â So I was happy and I had some great mexican food! Â It was like spicy carnitas and had peppers and rice on the side! Â They also have a pretty good cider on tap I wish I could remember the name because it was tasty.
I will go back and try something else! Â Give it a try! Â It would be sad to see this place go!
Horribly slow service. We were told to seat ourselves, then waited 20 minutes for the over-worked server to even take our drink orders. When we finally got our drinks, my daft beer was completely flat. No carbonation at all. After waiting another 10 minutes to finally flag down our server, he reluctantly replaced it with something else of my choosing.
The food menu was bleak with your typical pub food options. Nothing original.
When the food arrived, both my and my husband's sides were wrong. The Tacos De Pescado (fish tacos) were pretty tasty though, and my husband seemed to have enjoyed his Pork Sandwich.
Food...okay.
Service...despicable.
Drinks...not exciting.
I don't think we'll be back.
It's the Elk, only better. By better I'm talking about better service and more seating. Spokane needs more places like this.
I mainly come here for  their solid taplist but it will run $5 a pint for the good stuff. Best to come on Sundays when the pints are $2 (or were at the time of my visit). I recommend sitting in the bar area, it's pretty spacious unless it is nice out, then I would be all over that patio. The other thing I come here for is that crazy addictive corn pasta! I've found all their food to be beer friendly. The soup is also damn good. I'm not a Scotch drinker, but our group noted that there was a decent single malt scotch selection as well.
As for the controversial odor issue mentioned by the other reviewers, it's true. When we were there (which was some time ago), the entry did smell like pee. I really hope it's been rectified by now judging by the more recent reviews, it should be an easy fix.
This review was brought to you by Beer lovers against urine odors.
Love this place! The Two Seven Public House is probably the hubby and my favorite place to dine on South Hill. The food is delicious, the drinks are in good variety and reasonably priced, and the service has always been good as well. We had wanted to try The Elk, but never found ourselves in that area around dinner time. We were thrilled when we discovered Two Seven (sister restaurant of The Elk) a couple months ago and have been back several times ever since and every experience makes us love this place more because it has consistently good food and service.
The Traditional Reuben is definitely the best Reuben we have ever had. The Cuban Pork is also different (in a good way) and delicious. The Salpicon (shredded beef tacos) are another favorite as well. The Moon Burger was pretty good, but does not compare to any of the burgers at Waddell's (which isn't a fair comparison because Waddell's has the most amazing burgers). I will admit that at first we were a little put off by the absence of fries (a pub/bar without fries???), but the corn pasta salad and the potato salad are amazing and they completely make up for the lack of fries.
I completely side with the recent reviewer that said they could not detect any foul odor...the place has never had a foul odor since we have been going there (since August 2012). The negative reviews for this place are unusual. The complaint about lack of wi-fi...who would go to a bar to use the wi-fi? And gluten-free? It's a pub/bar...why would you expect a pub/bar to serve gluten-free food? I don't think those are "reasonable" expectations to have for a bar and to mark their score down for that seems silly.
Anyways, I highly recommend this place. If you are in the South Hill area and appreciate unique and delicious comfort food, definitely check out Two Seven. Also, the $2 a pint "Kill the Keg" special on Sundays is a great deal too!
First off they need to think about implementing some type of dress code. The server(s) looked like they just walked in off the street and wearing flip flops is not acceptable in a food service establishment. With that out of the way the service was good and the food was acceptable.
This is a good place to grab a casual bite to eat or enjoy a cocktail if you are in the neighborhood.
First of all, I generally read any bad reviews first so I am aware of potential issues to look for. Bad service being the most important of them. I also find them quite entertaining. That being said, there were some things at Two Seven that I was looking for based on other reviews on Yelp. One of them being "bad service", another being "bar food" and "Applebees style food". I was also on the look out for the "strong smell of urine", and poor "wifi signals". I figured I could find all of these things in short order if they indeed were a consistant problem.
The wife and I wanted something a little different from our usual haunts so we dropped in to Two Seven Public House since it was like 2 blocks away. I thought to myself "Huh... Public house.. a Pub.. someplace I could get Pub Grub". It is indeed in the lower half of a large mall that has been there since I was a kid. Good to be back in the Hood. Decor is what one would expect in a Pub. I didnt get the whole "it's in a strip mall feeling".
We walked in and the place was relatively empty except for about 4-6 others. Looked to be 3 people working the front end. We were told from the bar area "Hello!" and to go ahead and have a seat where ever. We sat outside and our server came out in under 3 minutes. A very nice bearded gent, dont recall his name. He had a nice smile and was pretty knowledgeable about the food and beers. I had a nice cask conditioned IPA, and the wife had Iced Tea. We were left with menus and our drinks came forth in a timely fashion and an offer for appetizers.
Our server took our orders for Stroganoff (it was a special). Â I perused the menu and it looked like they serve.. well... Pub fare. Comfort food that is hearty and simple. Not pretentious or Hip or anything. Just good simple food like a Pub should serve. The order arrived in a very timely fashion. Our server did a great job returning to our table at least twice to check on our status.
I had to use the facilities after my IPA and walked through the place. Nope.. no urine odor at all. Not even in the bathroom. The wife (who could smell an ant fart in a hurricane) didnt notice any offensive odors either.
The Stroganoff was very good. Tender chunks of meat that were delicious. The sauce was creamy yet light, with good flavor. Classic Pub Food. Very comforting on a nice early Autumn day.
So my last item to search for was poor WiFi, since that's apparently a pretty important courtesy at a Pub. I actually found 2 unlocked signals, both of them 3 bars, clearly labeled "TWO SEVEN PUBLIC HOUSE". I connected to both without any issues at all. Granted there were now about 8-10 people here now. If there was an issue I couldnt find it.
Two Seven Public House beats the next closest comparison,(Manito Taproom), hands down. The service was better, the food was better, the atmosphere was far less pretentious and I just felt more comfortable at Two Seven.
I didnt find any of the issues that the bad reviews experienced. Not saying they didnt happen, just saying that I didnt experience ANY of those claims. Not even close.
We really enjoyed ourselves and the food. Will definitely be going back. Keep up the good work guys, well done!
One of my favorite places on the hill to go for a beer or a quick bite to eat. Servers are always friendly, prompt, and fun. Food is consistent and I heart the Reuben. My only gripe would be that sometimes I wish they offered fries. This is a place I will certainly be going as long as it is around.
Review Source:I've been here 3 times now and each time the food resembles more of a bar-food style, not the "restaurant" type food they are known for. Also, the SERVICE has SUCKED every time. The waitresses seem aloof, bored, and condescending. I'm over the hype of how bohemian, hip, and trendy this and the Elk are! This compares to an Applebees in my book!
Review Source:Owned by the same people who run the Elk House, but this place is less crowded and honestly, the food is better.
Came here about a week ago and asked the waiter what the most popular items on the menu are. Â He mentioned the Salpicon (shredded beef taco). It sounded really good, so I tried it. Â Really glad I did. Â The beef was tender, juicy and well seasoned. Â The rice, habanero and aoili complimented really well. Â I will be coming back.
A cool local pub. The bar is pretty small, which I wish I had a chance to sit at. When I came I ate in the main dining area. Be aware it is seat yourself, as I stood around awkwardly for a minute before figuring it out. I like that it is a sister restaurant to the Elk because they have the same delicious quesadillas. Also they have some good ciders on tap. It's just a nice, chill neighborhood pub with good food. It's more of a place you expect to come with friends to catch up versus a bar to meet people at.
Review Source:We had lunch at the two seven on Mother's Day. Very good food, service was good as we ate out on the patio on a sunny day. Our waiter was attentive and kept the beverages full on a warm day. The two seven is the South Hill equivalent to The Elk that is down in Browne's Addition, same owners and seem to be on top of things. Nice lunch, definately worth going to if you're on the South Hill.
Review Source:If the category they fall in to is "Traditional American Pubs" then they deserve 5/5 for sure. They're not just dropping frozen items into a frier and calling it good - they put effort into their menu, especially their specials, and the result is a great place to eat. It does look like a basic pub from the exterior but it is much more than that. The beer list is creative, and I've always had good service.
Review Source:We've been going to the Two Seven since it opened and always love it. Â The Moon Burger is my standby, but I also love the Reuben with the home made sauerkraut. Â His standby is the lamb sandwich but loves the taco salad. Â But what is prompting me to finally review this most wonderful place is the special Oyster Po'Boy I had for dinner tonight. Â It was served with yummy pea salad. Â The oysters were cooked perfectly. Â Everything you could want in an oyster sandwich. Â I can't wait until this hits the special sheet again.
ps Just remembered about that awesome mushroom pasta they sometimes put on the special sheet ... oh, I love this place!
Was in Spokane for a basketball tournament. Found this place on YELP and took the whole team there. Everyone loved it !! Great food, Great prices and a very friendly wait staff. Â She told us about the specials and what they are famous for. Â The fish tacos are outstanding as well as the chicken quesadilla. Â I will definetly be back here the next time I am in Spokane. Â We drove from a hotel by the airport and it was well worth the drive.
Review Source:What a great experience. Â Saw this place on yelp as we were driving into town and made our way through the back streets to find a super nice public house. I took the whole family. The prices were fantastic the service was over the top and wow. The food was money!!!!!! Â Fish tacos for me. Salmon salad for my wife and the fetecinni primavera (sp) for my daughter. Oh and some tasty brews ( not for my daughter).
Review Source:I've visited the Two Seven a couple of times now and each time I got something different. Freakin' delicious.
The Moon Burger is a home run for sure. Its not trying to hard. Its super juicy and makes you want to order a second.
The only downside to me is that they don't do fries at all. I'm sort of in love with the burger and fries combination and they don't do it. You can choose from chips, potato salad, salad with vinaigrette, or pasta salad. I do the potato salad. Its pretty good. Doesn't quite feel right to eat it in winter though but they use really big pieces of potato.
The beers are also great. I like IPA and they didn't disappoint. They may not have as many taps as other pubs in the area but still a place I'd visit again.
This has become our "Go To" restaurant whenever we don't feel like cooking or just want to go out on a whim. We actually end up here once or twice a week!
The atmosphere is completely comfortable and laid back with the most friendly staff in town. Its a place to hang out with your kids or your friends.
The food is consistently delicious. We don't even need to see menus anymore. My husbands favorite is the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich which he dreams and drools about until our next visit. Perfect flavor, perfect texture. I eat on the lighter side with the Southwest Taco Salad. I omit the cheese and substitute salsa instead of dressing. Completely healthy and Southwest delicious!!
Can't make it in this week? No prob.. The owner was kind enough to publish their Corn Pasta Salad  and Smokey Onion Dip recipe on the website. We've brought these to so many functions and bbq's. Everyone raves about them and thinks we're "wicked good" chefs!
Ugh. I went to this place because it was recommended by a friend and it has wifi. I figured I'd get a cider and multitask - enjoyment with a little bit of work. Â
I got in and seated myself and was ignored by the waitstaff until I asked a server if I needed to wait to be seated or not, since if I did I'd missed the sign. Â She said no, and I then asked if they had wifi, as it hadn't popped up on my iPhone while I'd been waiting. She responded yes, so I placed an order for a cider and asked to see a menu. Â
While waiting for a menu, I popped open my laptop to see if the wifi signal would come up there, and had no luck. Â When I finally saw it, it was a measly thing with a poor connection which I never did successfully connect to - even after resetting my wireless card and restarting my computer just in case. Â I asked a waitress - a new one, as the first one had apparently passed me off to someone else - if there were ever problems with the connection, and she briskly remarked that people rarely came in "for that" and that she'd never heard of it. Â She said she'd ask, but never followed through with me or mentioned if they'd reset the modem, which I have to assume they never did, as the problems persisted through my entire meal. Â
I asked my new waitress if there were any specifically gluten-free items on the menu. She went back to the kitchen and told me that the only things were the salads - without the bread. Â I said that was fine, since that was what I figured from looking it over, and ordered a half salad with the dressing on the side. Â When it finally came out, the salad was literally sopping with an overly sweet honey vinaigrette. I could only choke down about half the salad before setting it aside. The waitress successfully ignored me throughout this entire experience until I had quite obviously pushed my salad and drink away, unfinished. Â
In a better restaurant, a server might ask "did you like your meal?" or "was it good?" Instead, she said "Are you done?" when I said yes, she took away my salad and whipped up my check like she couldn't see my backside fast enough. Â I paid up and got out, and certainly won't be back.
This is a great little pub, I love it! Certainly a hidden gem in Spokane. Apparently this place gets most of its business from dinner and happy hour crowds, which simply blows my mind. Any place like this in Phoenix is filled till closing. The staff is friendly; the beer and scotch selection are both excellent; and their kitchen is open late with some delicious food. I'll be making a few more stops here while I'm in town for sure!
Review Source:The major reason for five stars versus four is the fish tacos. Â They are unbelievable! Â Two-Seven is a very similar atmosphere to the Elk (the other restaurant they have in Spokane) but with a few differences. Â It is much bigger so seating is rarely a problem. Â It is more of a dining area than a bar but dos still have a bar area. Â Also has a lot more TV's making it a great place to watch a game. Â The patio is great but looks over a parking lot which leaves something to be desired. Â But again, the fish tacos!
Review Source:Very similar to my review of the Elk, but the 2-7 is better in some respects. Â It is located in the back of a strip mall, and difficult to find - but well worth the effort. Â The menu is somewhat different that the Elk, and with items that I like better, that are not on the Elk's menu. Â Their Salpicon, which is kind of like shredded beef tacos is out of this world. Â And they have a large assortment of hot sauces to use on it. Their salads are great, also.
The service  is much better than the Elk's, but that might be because they are not quite as busy.  However, the Elk is much better for people watching.
The primary drawback of the 2-7 is that during the summer, the patio is in direct sunlight on the west side of the building. Â It becomes very hot and glaring, and although there are large umbrellas, it is difficult to keep adjusting them to keep the sun out of diner's eyes.
It's a pub, that feels a little too much like a chain restaurant. Â It's fairly well lit, and very bland feeling inside - not exactly a lot of character. Â They were also playing pretty bad techno the entire evening we were there - not sure why; it's not like the place is a dance club! Â And besides, there were only about 20 people in the place total.
The place itself is set up like a restaurant - big booths around the edge, tables in the middle, and the bar area is somewhat separated from the rest of the space by some relatively attractive glass dividers.
They do have around 15 taps, and one cask pump, and most of them rotate through various local micro brews, so the beer selection was pretty good. Â They also have a full bar and a set of house cocktails; we didn't try those though so I can't testify to the skill of the bartenders. Â There's a full kitchen, but we were just drinking beer, so I can't help you on the food quality either, though I've heard it's good. Â Prices aren't great, aren't awful - $4-5/beer.
Our server was really friendly, which helped make up for some of the other shortcomings!
Another great dining experience at the Two Seven.
On our last visit we decided to try something new. We basically let the server walk us through the menu and we made our decisions based on her suggestions. We ended up with the Grilled Lamb sandwich and the Chicken Caesar Soft Taco with the sides of corn pasta and potato salad. I have to say that, thanks to Krista, our server, we found some new favorites. The lamb sandwich was fantastic and the potato salad was better than we remember.
We also had the Italian Sidecar and the Arnold Palmer from the drink menu and they were perfectly balanced. Not too much alcohol and not too much mixer.
Overall, is was a great night and we will definitely be back.
