Well honestly it's kind of hard to mess up bowling. The place had a nice decor. Had tv's up with some basketball on. I went on a Sunday with my family and it seemed like Sunday was "get together day" for everyone. Kid friendly, had the 20 somethings (my age) group in there enjoying themselves as well, having a few drinks. There was an older party (40 somethings) celebrating someone's birthday. Surprisingly with the wide age range that was in there everyone handled their liquor and/or kids, so everyone was able to enjoy the party they came with.
Side note the fries they have there are off the chain. Bowling and finger foods aren't the greatest match so bring sanitizer or at least wash your hands, you would put your hand in a bowling ball and then put your grungy fingers in a plate of fries, nasty lol.
Oh and the guy working there hooked my party up with 7 extra minutes (we were bowling for 2 hours and the time was on the screen) so that we could finish our last game because he saw that we were on the 9th frame. Something simple but he didn't have to do that, cool cat.
Universal Strike is a decent bowling alley. The lanes are smooth and level. It's really nice that the lanes are even with the floor and not a step up, which is much easier for disabled people and people with even some impaired mobility. The employees are nice and attentive. The one issue we had with our lane was solved immediately. They also have a rather large play area for kids. There were two kid's parties going when we got there and one or two more started after we started bowling. I really don't understand the highly negative one-star reviews as this place is better than some other places I've bowled, in larger and nicer cities. This place is clean, nothing smells bad and there's a free 'water station'.
We got the deal where you can play as many games as you want for two hours for $20, including shoe rental. Great deal as we played five games, which would have cost much more than $20. Luckily we got there early, when there were three or four other lanes going, before the place became really overrun with kids.
The food is over priced, but that's normal for similar places. Although the French fries we ordered were plentiful and hot.
I deducted two stars for:
- Too many kids running around, not being watched/controlled by the adults they were with and hogging bowling balls.
- Seating for every other lane is pushed back too far.
- Most people bowling were rude and not following the basic rule of not bowling when the person next to you is bowling.
- Air conditioning was not cool enough and we over heated easily.
Overall, this is a decent bowling alley and we'll be going back - but early as to avoid most of the kids. With a few improvements and requiring people to keep control of the kids they bring, I'd easily give it four stars.
