This is my new watering hole since I moved out to Corralitos. The owner is mellow, the regulars are friendly and seem to remember me. Mos def an older crowd, this is good. I hear at night it used to get a little shady but the video cameras have taken care of the gangster douchbags. The reason that this place doesn't rank as a five star dive bar in my opinion is the beer selection suh-hucks. One tap (Miller) and your standard line-up of bar beers (Heini, Shocktop, BlueMoon...) but not one local or craft beer in a bottle. The hefty tequila shots always seem to make me forget I'm sipping on a Sierra though...
Review Source:The drinks here are super strong and pretty cheap. Playing music on the jukebox is fun. Decor is basic dive-bar and a little retro. It could be a really awesome bar...but for the patrons. I've only been there twice, but both times I was not impressed with the people this bar attracts. I was with a male friend the first time and a female friend and her boyfriend the second time and both times I felt a little sketched out. It wasn't rowdy or anything, just a vibe of not feeling safe. It's not really the establishment's fault, they can't control their patrons, but I wish this place felt safer. The drinks are good, though.
Review Source:I love this place!
Shuffle board, juke box, awesome regulars, strong drinks, bartenders = amazing (Charlie = my favorite!)
They've got a shuttle and Mike gets you home safe!
Spent my last new years here & Charlie made it a party for sure :)
There's always drink specials and they're always good.
Kinda your classic locals dive bar. Big contrast to the bars I typically go to which are frequented by transient population (students, military, etc.) and tourists. This is definitely an "every man" kind of place. And by that I mean you'll see people of every race, class, culture, etc, here. What everyone has in common is that they're there to have a good time. I've only been once, but literally everyone in the bar looked happy. Like legitimately happy. Also in contrast to many dive bars which tend to attract a subset of depressed or agro folks. It's like that old TV show Cheers really, kind of a trip. I talked to the bar tender a lot and got the impression that there are a lot of regulars. He knew many folks by their first name and kinda looked out for everyone. Speaking of that, this is the kind of bar where you get some REALLY drunk people. However, with everyone being in a pleasant mood I was totally cool with that. Because of that, Â they also have a FREE shuttle that will drive you to and from the bar. The bartender said that they are really big on preventing DUI's. Again - they look out for their folk, which explains why there are so many regulars. Prices are great by the way, we ordered five mixed drinks, two glasses of water, and a bag of chips for $30. Decor is your typical dive bar kinda stuff (which I love), lots of brown and dimness with some crookedly hung rope lights here and there. They also have a dart board, table top shuffle board, an ATM, TV, and a LOUD juke box. Speaking of the juke box, I heard mostly country and classic rock being selected throughout the night.
Cons:
-The lock on the Mens bathroom was missing when I was there, but you could jam a pen or a key into the door to keep it shut (it'll make sense when you see it if it's still like that)
-The jukebox, while LOUD as heck, has poor sound quality. I like it loud, but I wish it sounded a little better. (partly the reason for the missing star)
-Cash only (another reason for the missing star)
-Chips, nuts, etc, only. No cooked food. (Great BBQ joint next door though and a liquor store down the way with more snacks)
Notes:
-I saw folks dressed in anything from dresses and button up shirts to dirty work clothes. I take it that it's kind of a "come as you are" or "make it what you want" type of place.
-There is a women's bathroom, but it's hard to see.
-This is the farthest thing from a pickup bar that I've ever seen. Mostly couples and small groups of friends that don't particularly look to be on the prowl. The crowd is so mixed that there really isn't much selection for any one age/sub culture. On the plus side, for those looking, there didn't seem to be much competition.
