I realize that I only gave Vin Dolce two stars. Â That is NOT because I had a bad experience there or anything, I was just very underwhelmed. Â I think I set my expectations too high. Â
Our server was nice, our food was good and the wine was good. Â That being said - I've had better service, I've had better food and I've had good wine elsewhere and I've had it for about half the price. Â I don't mind spending money on a good meal, but I want to spend it on extraordinary food that I couldn't make at home. Â I did not have that experience at Vin Dolce.
We started with the cheese plate - which was huge. Â I would not order that as a small appetizer for just two people. Â The cheese plate was good. Â It had three cheeses, mixed nuts, pitted olives, fig spread and toasted baguette. Â The cheeses were very ordinary. Â I felt like I could have grabbed them in the Kraft aisle at the grocery store. Â There was nothing novel about them. Â It was a bleu, a sharp cheddar and what I think was a gruyere. Â It was good, it just wasn't extraordinary.
Next we ordered our meal. Â My husband had the filet mignon with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Â He enjoyed his meal and had no complaints, however, I also think we could have made a comparable meal at home. Â I ordered the tilapia with rice pilaf and zucchini. Â This too, was ordinary. Â My tilapia was over seasoned and too spicy for my taste. Â The zucchini was a bit overdone and there were only three slices. Â The rice was good. Â I realize that neither my Husband nor I ordered a particularly original dish, but that was in part because the menu was fairly limited.
Overall, this was a good restaurant and if it cost about 1/3 of the price, I think my review would be better, but for they price point that they are at, I didn't find it worth it.
I went with my husband and in-laws on a Wednesday night. We went for some wine after having dinner somewhere else. My husband and father-in-law ordered the full glass and my mother-in-law ordered a half glass. When the wines came out, the servings were all the same size. I don't order wine at restaurants so I didn't know if the full glass meant they got a "refill" or what, considering the serving size that came out was small. We didn't say anything to our server, so we checked the bill and it looked like we were charged for either 3 full glasses or 3 half glasses. If that was a full glass portion I wouldn't want to see the half!
The restaurant had 3 other tables occupied, and the server gave us plenty of space, so by the time we were done we just wanted to pay and leave rather than bring up our concerns. Definitely more of a restaurant than a wine bar atmosphere, but a nice looking space overall.
We just discovered this modern little space in downtown Edmond. We had a couple half glasses of wine and some small plate appetizers: delicious bacon-wrapped dates and truffle flavored popcorn. Yum! Our server Madison was a big help making decisions about the wine menu. We will definitely be back soon!
Review Source:I've been so excited to check this place out since reading so many nice reviews. Mr K and I took his mom the other night after dinner at Italian Jim's. They have some incredibly nice wines by the glass, or even by the ounce so you could try something you might not ever have the opportunity to try.
We each ordered a different glass of wine, I had a Cab Sav (of course), Mr K had a Syrah, and K's mom had a Riesling. We took our time, lingering over one glass for almost an hour. We shared a naked cupcake as well, and it was so good.
They were out of the first three wines I wanted to try, but that doesn't really bother me. I love what they're doing, and the atmosphere is so wonderful. Tall ceilings, dramatic, large-scale artwork, blown glass fixtures, tall velvet chairs and perfect lighting. I loved that they had the Thunder game on too- not too cool or highbrow for us to be able to catch the game. This is my kinda place. Looking forward to trying the tapas, learning more about the wine, and enjoying more time in such a lovely space.
Good atmosphere and a good wine and beer selection. Â The friendly bar tenders and band are nice touches. Â They always put the Thunder game on the TV above the bar when they're playing. Â We've been here 4 times and never have been impressed with the food. Â Also, the prices are high.
Review Source:If variety is the spice of life then thank goodness for a great wine and tapas bar. In the heart of old Edmond is a sleek, modern, and upscale watering hole, Vin Dolce. I went last night for the first time but not the last. I am a lover of small plates because it gives you variety that you mix and match and you eat until it feels right, a very efficient way to eat. I also happen to love wine and these folks are uncommonly good at the choice from $9 a glass all the way to the OMG 1 ounce tastings of superb vintages. We started with a pinot noir wine flight with an Oregon full bodied choice called Bethel Heights I especially loved since I like the more Burgundy style of Oregon to California lighter fare. The food choices are perfect for me with mussels, flat breads, an outstanding cheese plate and much more. I can't wait to go back with more people because that increases the choices you can sample. If you are tired of the same old chain restaurant mentality step into Vin Dolce. it's new York hip but with Oklahoma's casual and friendly atmosphere.
Review Source:I love this place! Â Seriously, one of the only places in Edmond that serves alcohol lol...love the live interactive music experience, excellent waitstaff and LOVE that it's a No Kids Allowed type of place! Â Albeit it is expensive, but totally worth it for a nice (adult) night out! Â Perfect place for DINKS (double income no kids!). Â We loved the one Italian restaurant across the street but was shocked to find they didn't serve alcohol (a sit-down Italian dinner!) Â SO since it was Vday weekend, we indulged at Vin Dolce!
Review Source:Vin Dolce aka The Wine Bar, managed by Addison Howell, located at 16 South Broadway in Edmond, is an oasis for transplanted Californian wine lovers, like my wife and me. Staff knows wines and which wines should be poured into which Reidel glass. That's right - The Wine Bar carries a full set of Reidel glasses.
While Cindy enjoyed a Rombauer Chardonnay and I sipped on a Milbrandt Riesling.
In addition to an excellent selection of fine wines, Vin Dolce serves an assortment of appetizers. It's a great place to stop before dinner, afterwards or after a day of shopping. I suggest if you have a party of four that your stop and share a bottle.
