Having just moved down the street, we get carry out pizza at this place fairly often.  I really like the sweetness if the sauce and the taste of the dough.  Huzzah!

Because we've had such good experiences with the pizza, we decided to try their "real" food there...HUGEMONGOUS MISTAKE.  In their defense we were there at about 9, which is usually a bit late for a dinner crowd.  Maybe the cooks weren't used to cooking anything but pizzas?  I ordered the French Onion Soup.  Salty and 80% of my bowl was filled with unmelted mozzarella cheese.   A huge clump of it.  Weird.  I like cheese and I couldn't even eat it.  I also ordered the toasted ravioli.  It wasn't the same ravioli I remember them serving and wasn't served with their pizza sauce, but with what tasted like jar marinara.  Bummer.

Friendlies ordered a Philly cheesesteak, which they were out of.  A French Dip (that looked like a Philly cheesesteak without toppings and came with au jus that was definitely French onion soup complete with onions in the bottom) and a bacon cheese burger...which was the only thing that was done right.

We waited about 20 minutes to have our drink order taken...another 20 or so to receive our drinks and have our food order taken...and almost another hour to get our food and didn't have our drinks replenished once.  The waitress brought out one plate of food and said the rest was ready, but nobody would help her bring it out.  We said something along the lines of "heh...okay" and gave each other the "WTF" look.

The food finally made it's way to the table, but she forgot to bring utensils, condiments and sides of dressing and napkins that we had asked for.  Oh and more beer.  Probably slipped her mind while she was up near the bar dancing with some people.  We finally get everything we requested, ate, waited another 15 minutes or so for boxes.  Another 10 to get our bill and didn't bother giving her a credit card or large bill because who knows how long it would have taken her to figure that out.

After sharing this experience with a number of friends that have visited this establishment, I've learned that it was nothing personal and they don't discriminate when it comes to shitty service...IT HAPPENS TO EVERYONE!

One friendly even said they asked to speak to a manager.  The owner was sent over and they were henceforth treated like dirt.  Nothing was comped and no apologies took place.  Good to see at least the owner knows how to handle issues properly!

All in all, I suggest you stick to carry out pizza, people! (and don't get too picky about it!)

I've been to Vito's several times - occasionally for pizza, but mostly to have drinks and listen to the bands that play there. Last weekend, I went to Vito's for a friend's birthday party. The beer is reasonably priced, and they have Cherry Wheat on tap (my favorite). The wait staff is quick and efficient. The pizza is good (they have a deal on Tuesdays) - lots of cheese, and good toppings.

It's a little loud - they have the room divided into two sections - a dining section with the bar, dining tables, and the pool table; the other side with the stage area, a small dance floor, and long tables to watch the entertainment. Overall, I've never had a bad time there; I'd go back.

    I like the pizza.

To me the key to any good pizza is the sauce.  You hear people talk about the crust or cheese or toppings, but those are secondary.  That is why I am not anxious to go to NY and try their crappy looking pizza where it looks like the crust had some sauce on it at on time but  then someone wiped most of the sauce off before they threw on the cheese.  I want it dripping with thick delicious sauce.

Now on to Vito's sauce.  I hadn't had Vito's for a couple of years until I came to visit around Labor Day.  In fact, Vito's had been shut down for a while.

I was visiting my friend and we were deciding what to eat when he advised me that Vito's was open for business again.  The first question I asked him: "Is it Vito's sauce?"

He hadn't tried it yet, but he called them up to ask them.  They advised us that it was the same sauce recipe and that the new owners were relatives of the old owners.  We were skeptical as to whether it was the same sauce, but we new we had to try it and see.

Vito's sauce can best be described as sweet and spicy.  Again, a lot of people don't like sweet sauces, but I do if they are done right.  They shouldn't taste like candy.  It should have a sweetness to it combined with some spice that brings a hint of heat.  This is what Vito's sauce does.  Don't get me wrong, this is not a sauce that will burn your Irish grandma's sensitive palate. It is mild but, it has the spiciness from the garlic and I would guess maybe some cayenne pepper.

My friend is strictly a carnivore when it comes to pizza toppings.  This is a better position to be in when ordering Vito's because they have more meat options than veggie options.  I am an unabashed meat eater, but when it comes to pizza I tend to favor non-meat toppings.

My friend asks me what I want on it and I respond with "vegetables" as I usually do.  My friend refers to this as wanting salad on your pizza.  Nevertheless he orders the pizza and gets half with "salad" on it.

After we pick up the pizza and bring it back to his place we are happy to learn that the sauce is Vito's sauce.

The things keeping this place from being a 4 is the selection of toppings, no delivery, service can be somewhat slow and if you order a side of bread it is like plain pizza crust.  Throw some garlic and spices on the bread or something.  Don't just give me a plain crust.

My pizza with "salad" on it came with onions, green peppers, banana peppers and mushrooms.  These are fine options, but I would have like to add some pineapple.  Also, although I wasn't getting any meat on my pizza, I always like the option of a grilled chicken option, which they don't have either.

I think I ate inside once about nine years ago and I honestly don't remember what it was like.  I believe they have other Italian dishes, but I have not tried them.  Although, I imagine the sauce will be pretty good.

If you like NY style pizza then do not go here.  If you want your pizza dripping with a good sauce, then this is your place.
