This eclectic restaurant/cafe/bar is owner operated featuring excellent live music and generous drink pours. Unfortunately a fire has temporarily knocked out the kitchen, but the owners are working hard to get back on track.including a remodel of "The Room" side.
In the meantime support the live music and excellent bartenders!
The food here used to be delicious. The brunch was classy and delightfully good. Now the only thing on the menu worth getting is the big med salad and grilled pizza. Disorganized management and a lousy chef/kitchen staff are to blame. Service at the front of house is also chaotic and neglectful. However the atmosphere is lovely.
Review Source:If you're headed for Battleship Cove, this is a good to grab lunch before you enter the park. They have kids' specials for a very reasonable price including a drink and dessert; adults can choose from several sandwiches which have subtle Portuguese influences here and there. Almost everything comes with their version of fries--thick slabs of potato sliced into wedges lengthwise--and a house-made bread & butter pickle.
The interior is a little spooky but clean and the service is a bit slow but friendly. Definitely better than the snack bar inside the park.
Having read the reviews for this restaurant, I was very excited to try it out. Â I had seen that another yelper had mentioned there being a gluten-free menu, and since my friend has celiac's disease, it sounded like a perfect excuse to go. Â When we arrived at about 1 pm on a sunday, we were (unpleasantly) surprised to see that it was about 50 degrees in the restaurant, and that it was nearly deserted. Â Upon receiving the menu, we were disappointed to find out that they no longer have a gluten-free menu, so we asked the waitress to check with the chef regarding my friend's menu choice, which was roasted 1/2 chicken with rice pilaf and squash risotto. Â The chef said it was gluten free, and I ordered the lamb burger. Â We ate, and our food was pretty good, but afterwards my friend was very ill and upon further inspection it appears that they used FLOUR in the risotto and there are little bits of pasta in the rice pilaf. Â This would be acceptable if it weren't for the fact that the chef had said the dish was gluten free! Â As a chef myself, I find this completely unacceptable and even dangerous. Â What if instead of having celiacs, she had been highly allergic?
I would also like to note that the calendar of events for the bar nextdoor that we were given with the bill stated that WaterStreet Cafe had "a new chef".
This was my second time to WaterStreet - sat outdoors both times I came here. The outdoor seating doesn't really have a great view, but given the limited outdoor dining options in FR, it's worth trying one.
On this trip out, I tried the linguine with shrimp & scallops dish and one of their specialty salads. The descriptions on the menu sounded great, but the dishes themselves were just ok. My shrimp were fairly undercooked while the scallops seemed slightly overcooked. Service was OK.
Out door seating in FR is the main reason I give Waterstreet three stars - the food itself is between 2 and 3 stars.
Watched "Detroit Breakdown" which plays a lot of J. Geils, Petty, Hendrix - these guys can JAM! (My friend Scott's band EXCELLENT!) Â
My Friends ate there and gave it very good reviews as a bonus they also have a gluten free menu. Â Roomy inside and good size dance floor. Â I did not have trouble finding it, Just drive to Battleship cove and you will find it.
I've been to the Waterstreet Cafe several times to see a friend's band play, but last night was the first time I ate there. Â I brought a meetup group who was going to eat dinner and then see the band.
Waterstreet was very accomodating with our reservation. Â If you eat in the restaurant, they will a) save you a table in the music room (awesome!) and b) give you a drink coupon, but you still have to pay the cover for the band.
I had one of the specials, which was good, although the chicken was slightly dry. Â Most of the group seemed happy with their meals, save some minor complaints (too much dressing, slightly cold ravioli). Â Portions were large and prices were good. Â One of our members had been here multiple times for lunch and brunch and he raved about the chourico hash, pumpkin pancakes, and various sandwiches.
After dinner we moved over to the music room. Â The band, The Express, was rocking as always. Â Our bar waitress was prompt but then complained to a member that we did not tip right away from the round of free drinks we had received. Â I was intending, as the organizer, to give her a large tip at the end of the night, which was done and I think all was resolved. Â The last thing you want to do is piss off your waitress!
As noted by Ben, the Waterstreet Cafe is a little tough to find. Â Google maps wanted me to do something impossible and members' GPSs gave wrong turns as well. Â Thankfully, we all got there ok! Â I don't find the area to be intimidating at all. Â Parking is a little tight, especially when there are other events going on in the area. Â Waterstreet has a lot but I have never found a spot in it. Â There is a kind of industrial area across the street that I (and a lot of other people) usually park in.
All in all, Waterstreet Cafe is a good place to grab a bite and see a good show, features that are sorely lacking in other South Coast establishments. Â Check it out!
Easily one of my favorite places of all time. Â Heavy Mediterranean influence on the food (influence might be the wrong word as the owners are Mediterranean) and a good deal of skill in the kitchen to prepare it. Â
One of my favorite places for a business lunch or a night out, Waterstreet has interesting and delicious food complimented by an interesting atmosphere and very friendly service. Â
You would not be able to find this place by simply driving around Fall River, and you might even be intimidated by the area at night (down by Battleship Cove), so you should make a point to go here if you are in the area.
Good to know, Waterstreet cafe has a lounge side where some great local bands play. Â Also keep an eye for then they have open mic night. Â Always a good time.
