My husband had the steak.  He seemed happy enough with it.  I had the trout which was very good.  The baked potatoes were good too.  Veggies were a little disappointing as they seemed like someone just opened up a can of corn and tossed them in the microwave.  Salad was basic, but fresh.

The ambience in here is fun with the paintings on the wall and whatnot.  The waitress we had was superb.  Friendly and attentive without being annoying - we never went long without a drink refill, but she didn't hover.

I don't know if it was because we came near the end of restaurant service (the bar stays open past the kitchen), or if it was just because it wasn't terribly crowded, but they didn't mind that we hung out nursing a couple beers for a while.  It had been a long drive in the car that day and it was nice to relax!

The food on its own merit probably only warrants 3 stars, but the atmosphere pushed it up to 4 :)

Took the family here twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. Amazing food both times. It used to be a old time drug store, if you look down at the original wooden floor you can see where the old shelves stood. Great old atmosphere. Servers where extremely nice, food portions are a little bigger then what we are used to on the east coast. My favorite was the steak, big and juicy. Bring some quarters for the kids to play a game of pool.

We stopped for lunch. Short menu; Good food; Great prices; Get the potato salad as your side. They close at 2pm between lunch and dinner. Oh, and free wifi.

Not a lot of choices in WaKeeney, but given the choices this place isn't bad.  My wife and I arrived about 7pm on a Saturday night and the place was packed.  After about 15 min. waiting they opened up the loft and we along with about a dozen others were seated there.  We both had the prime rib because it was recommended in other reviews and we are in Kansas!  Salad came fast and was fine.  Bagged lettuce but had croutons, carrots etc mixed in.   The prime rib was large, tender and very tasty.  I had a baked potato, which came with butter and sour cream.  My wife had the mashed which were pretty good.  Green beans were just OK.  Probably canned.

    No room for desert.

Old fashioned atmosphere was quite quaint.  Not a cheap meal, but worth what we paid.  Prime rib $17.95, draft beer 3.25. Includes soup or salad.

Food is mediocre.  But where else are ya gonna go in this town? Steak is better than anything else on the menu. Staff are friendly.

The salad my wife ordered was completely awful, my burger was sub-par, and the fries were bland and limp. This place gets an extra two stars for having a truly impressive collection of scotch behind the bar, from the Macallan 12, to Oban and beyond.

Stopped here instead of driving on to Hays while a tornado warning was in effect.  Had the ribeye and the trout.  The steak was cooked perfectly and both flavorful and tender.  The trout was good.  We both picked the mashed potatoes and the soup, which was chicken/potato.  The soup was very savory and the potatoes were tasty, as was the gravy.  (The vegetable was canned green beans, which bothered one of us, but not the other, given the tastiness of all the other food served.)

Once an old hardware store, this building was renovated into this restaurant.  Apparently it supported illegal gambling in the basement of the establishment.  They invented a system in which to notify the gamblers of the law's unexpected arrival by dropping a coin through a small hole in the floor onto the card tables below.  This place is rich in history, and yes, even sports a huge Christmas tree year round.

    With that being said...
This local hotspot provides a decent meal.  It was recommended to us by two separate locals so we gave it a try.  For an extremely small town, this is most likely the best you can find next to a DQ or Pizza Hut.  I had the daily special of a chili ginger glazed salmon with new potatoes and boiled veggies.  The food was not the best quality but edible all the same for actual food.  It's definitely an experience worth trying.
