Back yesterday for a visit. Â This time, I was in the company of Yelp Brother All Mighty, Dale N.
Today, I ordered the Rack of Lamb and they actually had it! Â Cooked to a medium, I thought the Lamb was outstanding. Â I also tried one of Leo's famous Bloody Mary's (after I saw Dale order his) and it was truly one of the best I've ever had.
It was pleasure to see Noelle again and finally meet Leo's boss (his wife) Panagotaone. Â AKA "Mom" as my buddies refer to her as. Â And unbeknownst to me. Â Dale snapped a picture of me and Panagota as we we're chatting it up.
Yuuup, today was a good day. Â A great visit accompanied by great food and company.
Life is good..
Who would have known! Â Thanks to Tony A we did dinner here Saturday evening.
This is a gem in the rough. Â You would wiz right past it at 45 mph (the speed limit)
and wouldn't think twice about stopping here. Â But many folk have over the years..since 1886. Â It was a working hotel, barber shop, saloon and a house of ill <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frepute.It&s=11030d1dc4613b6668655cadeeef3a2a2d388898ef34e7b5304cbe35e6219bf7" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://repute.It</a> had poker tables and gunfights in the street with a causality right outside the front door! Â
This place can really rock some nights with karaoke and a dj!
They have a great variety on the menu. Tonight I came for the prime rib. Â Huge.

You won't go away hungry here. Served up first is a basket of home-baked
dinner rolls...soft and warm. Â We finished off two baskets!! Dinner comes
with soup (a thin minestrone), salad with fresh and crispy greens, a side of vegetables and a couple of starch choices to go with  your entrée.  I chose the twice-baked potato.  The prime rib was large...bone in.  It was medium, just like I ordered it.  While it was good I do not feel that it was outstanding.  I would not make the trip just to eat the prime rib again...although I won't rule out ordering it again.
But i WILL make the trip again...to try something else on the menu. Â My friend
had the three meat bbq plate. <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/westley-restaurant-and-bar-westley?select=WVGLIHCV7a6Hls-q-7xoOA#AADE3fctrpgtV2wDLt_KKw">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>  Said the meat was a bit on the dry side.  Adding extra bbq sauce would help.  But despite that, you need to go here. Â
The bloody mary's that Leo makes are great.  <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/westley-restaurant-and-bar-westley?select=WVGLIHCV7a6Hls-q-7xoOA#ExK8De88GjSaB6TBtfCbTg">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
Leo's wife, Panagota, (they are the owners) was our server.  What a sweet lady.  I felt like I was a guest in her living room!  She has been in the restaurant business for over 40 years...several of those in the bay area!  <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/westley-restaurant-and-bar-westley?select=WVGLIHCV7a6Hls-q-7xoOA#5_LvPbQHC6WupSCM1BW6zA">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
A great outing for a Friday evening, Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Â Stop in, savor the flavor of the inn and have Leo whip you up a bloody mary!
Bon Appétit!
Thanks, Tony A!!
I can tell you this place is great! The food in tasty and there is plenty of it. The plates are over flowing when they arrive at your table. This is a cozy relaxing restaurant, with such NICE people and great service. It's only 10 minutes from Patterson, Ca. or 10 minutes from the freeway (Hwy 5).
Review Source:I read the other reviews for this place.  Unfortunately, we did not have the same experience!  This was two trips in one...first and last!  Hubby and I both ordered steak.  I always have filet mignon when I order a steak.  The steak was tasteless, except for the burned crust!  I ordered my steak medium well, and it was rare/medium.  Hubby ordered rib eye steak medium, it was well done.  I also ordered an iced tea, they were out of tea (since Wednesday, we were there on  Friday.)  To her credit, the waitress did everything she could to make it right, gave us a 20% of our meal.  It wasn't her fault that the food was bad!
Review Source:My family and I dined here solely based on Yelp reviews, because if it wasn't for Yelp, most people outside of the Westley, Grayson, Patterson area, probably would not know that this place even existed. Â The reviews were quite accurate. Â This is a gem surrounded by not much of anything else. Â If you're passing through here on Highway 33, if you blink you might miss it. Â The outside of the Westley Hotel is rustic and dusty. Â The inside is aged, rustic and nice. Â The food went beyond my expectations. Â The prime rib was cooked to perfection. Â The twice baked potato that accompanied it was the perfect complement to it. Â My wife enjoyed the Greek salad, and the kids are like whatever. Â The floor of the dining area is a little unlevel, which is most evident when sitting down, but if you lean into it a little you should be fine.
Review Source:Its truly amazing how welcomming the staff here was, they had helped me out tremendously. Perfect little slice of life, they helped me find a place to crash, they have some of the best soup I have ever had, and the family that owns it, as well as the waitress, Noelle, are some of the kindest accepting people I have met yet. I am truly blessed to have stumbled upon this place, and it is somewhere I will always go when on the Olde Hwy 33. Again I cant thank these guys enough!!!!!
Review Source:Went to this place on the recommendation of a friend. I like to grind and he said this would be my kinda place. Â He was RIGHT! On the way over, you wonder, "where the heck am I going... it's in the middle of nowhere?!" Â The outside would be easy to miss but it's such a small town, you can still find it amid the set of old dusty buildings on main street. Â However, once we walked in it was like the old Stuart Anderson's with lots of rustic wood and dark lighting. Â After that, it was one pleasant surprise after another! Â First, our waitress was super nice and the girl next door that could be a model, but doesn't act like it. Then, the meals come with soup and salad... really tasty and fresh. Finally, my prime rib came and it included the BONE and was at least 1.75 inches thick!! Â I normally can polish off a 14 oz. cut and I couldn't finish this baby. Â It was super good with nice garden veges and rice pilaf... lots of it soaked with au jus... just the way I like it. Â To quote our famous ex gov == "I'll be BAAACK!"
Review Source:First review I've ever wrote!  A little bit of background first and then to the review. I'm a seasoned restaurant and hospitality professional from Yountville  CA.  That being said, I'm surrounded by fine dining including 5 Michelin star restaurant's !French Laundry, Auberge du soleil, Bottega, Michael Chiarello's restaurant and many more.  My father was also a well known restaurateur in Napa Valley and I have been surrounded by fine dining my entire life and I currently manage at a top resort in the Napa Valley.  My boyfriend resides and works in San Francisco, additionally has 2nd home in the central valley that we retreat to when we want peace and quiet.  We stumbled upon the Westley Hotel and walked in not  knowing what to expect.  WOW!  The food as fresh, cooked perfectly, bountiful and such a deal!  We have been back as handful,of times and brought our kids to enjoy too.   Teenage boys that could not finish their food.....imagine that!  The family run restaurant, Leo and Panagota  (owners) do aa fabulous job and are so warm and welcoming.  They aim to please and doing a great job at it,  it might not be the French laundry or packed with famous  clientele or designer clothes but their hospitality and good home cooking meals are well worth the drive and a visit!  P & J
Review Source:My hubby & I were having our "anniversary weekend"! We just lef our daughter at the sitter's, dog was at a kennel, we were off to Carmel-by-the-sea & Monterey to eat. & celebrate! Â
We decided to try that "quirky" little western hotel place everyone had told us had the best steaks in the world at, the Westley Hotel.
No reservations, we waltzed in, ( we tend to waltz) and began one of the most fun diners ever!
Our waitress got me started with booze, a mixed drink, Mai tai. Delicious, way strong on the rum! Rummy yummy! Hubby was driving, went with soda. Steak special that night, we got soup, minestrone, which neither of us love much or chicken noodle. We are thinking, " Campbell's for sure" nope, homemade, chunks of chicken, floating a steamy bath of fragrant broth! Yummy again!
On to our basic house salad,we thought! No, crunchy onion, crouton, cues, tomatoes, olives, chunky crumbles of creamy bleu cheese, and a wonderful bleu cheese dressing, oh with fantastic bread!
We were fullish, and the steak with baked potatoes fully loaded came out....wow! Best steaks either of us behave ever eaten ever! One was a rib eye, one was a New York. The seasoning, perfection in the cooking, the tenderness, oh my word! oh, had red wine, but cannot recall what kind, forgot to sip it, steak was so marvelous!
We have eaten at Ruth's Chris, many times, Morton's Steakhouse too, they are wonderful steak places, but If you want flavor, go here!
We couldn't even consider dessert, Â we rolled home. The following night in Carmel, we decided to finally try the "Hog's breath Inn" owned by Clint Eastwood. We shouldn't have, paid over twice the money, got half the portions, drank the whole glass of wine, there was no flavor whatsoever, the nuked frozen veggies, we're cold and mushy.
Trust me, we wished we had gone back to the  Westley Hotel. Simply fantastic!!!
I have been going here for years. I have come to be entertained by some of the things that occur here that would normally bother me at many restaurants. A fun one is to bet with your friends how many minutes it takes from the time you set down at the bar until someone actually realizes you are there. Sometimes you just have to poke your head into the kitchen and let them know you are there. Some times it might be faster to walk to the store next door and buy a soda, compared to getting a refill. The location would fit my definition of a dive, a place that would otherwise be a complete s-hole, but it has some unspoken charm that draws you back and you love. The family that owns it are great people, friendly and sometimes hard to understand. If this place was in Modesto (and the service could keep up) there would be a line out the door. Â
As far as the food goes, get the bacon cheese burger, medium. Also recommended is the Westley Chicken. Other good choices are the tri-tip sandwich (same as French dip), the steak sandwich, and the ground round (dinner). The only things more surprising than the huge portions are the cheap prices! The fried zucchini and mushrooms with ranch on the side are great appetizers (They are also good for you as they are veggies! Lol!).
Sodas are hit and miss as far as flavor, iced tea sometimes tastes like salsa, water is off flavored tap water. If the taps are working (not foaming) the beer is good. If not you can always drink bottled beer, many choices. Have Leo make you a bloody Mary, awesome!
Not open for breakfast. In the past I have called ahead (dinner and lunch) and they have had my order ready to go when I arrived. It also has a banquet room that I have reserved for parties. The bar can get loud when they turn the jukebox on.
We had our company party here recently. Though our food was set up in a buffet format (leaving me unable to vouch for standard meals), I think I can speak to overall food quality. It's good! The food is exactly what you would expect when you pull up and see the cute old-timey look. The interior decór doesn't disappoint either. It looks like somewhere your parents, or grandparents, would have gone on a date when they first met.
Generous portions that didn't skimp on salt, butter or garlic were the order of the day at our party. I don't eat meat, so I missed the star dishes. If the pile of picked-clean chicken bones and ribs is any indication, their meat is quite good!
The bar tends to have a friendly vibe enhanced by the generosity of the pours. This isn't the place to insist on ordering an esoteric 'it' drink that is popular in the coolest clubs. That said, who needs 'fancy' when you can enjoy 'well-made' and 'affordable'?
You would never think that you were in California if you've been to this place. After hearing about their huge steaks, my hubby & I went to check out their Westley Steakhouse, located inside the hotel. The hotel itself has a very western feel to it, and there's really not a whole lot going on in Westley, other than the Rest Area and Joe's Travel Stop off I-5.
Their steaks are GINORMOUS! We paid maybe $20 for a steak. Too bad I dont have my old cell phone anymore, I snapped a shot of my plate with the T-Bone steak and "after" picture with my happy boxer gnawing on the bone later that night.
