The Whippoorwill

We came in on a Saturday, and were told the whole place was booked for a band.  Great for them, bad for us a guess.  They let us sit at the bar for a beer or two.  the building was great and I will go back to update this review, on the hopes that this was just a fluke day.  our group had a captain and coke, white Russian, and two vodka cranberries.  All of them were very weak, to the point of having to ask to get a little more.  I know some places have pouring standards the live by, but I'm not a fan of not getting my moneys worth no matter what the situation is.  The bar tender was incredibly nice, and showed us around.  The upstairs great, has a cool feel, and even has a TV that shows the bands down stairs.  I will be back Whippoorwill, and I will update the Yelp world accordingly.

I live in Nashville, but grew up in Sumner Co. I've been to the Whip a handful of times and can safely say there's nothing like this in Gallatin. It's my understanding the kitchen has gone through changes since it has opened, and frankly speaking, Gallatin seems to just never go to the historic square for dining and never has. The other posters are right about it being stellar atmosphere. You cannot go wrong with the bar. This is easily the coolest spot to rent for private parties or events. There is a beautiful, stainless steel bar downstairs, covered in original, decorative tin (as are the ceilings) and the upstairs room has a smaller bar and upstairs deck outside.

I really appreciate the way this restaurant maintained its former identity.  It was one of those soda shop pharmacies..back when you could get a root beer float while waiting for your penicillin.  Now you sit at the bar and wait for you moonshine margarita.  Ive had "The Hutchins" twice.  Great steak!  And I love their homemade potato chips.  I think this upcoming summer is going to be a really good one for the Whip! The place is an oasis that, unfortunately, has to compete with boring chain restaurants.  As someone who lived in New Orleans and San Francisco, this place is very up my alley.
