The live music on a Saturday night made
for a fun evening with great ambiance...

Ordered the prime rib dinner ($14.95)
Comes with your choice of two sides.
    Presentation was great...meat looked
good but had a weird smokey taste.
    Didn't care for it.  <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/whirlows-tossed-and-grilled-stockton-3?select=6gFHy-BO5F9TGTnF-GYKPA#rm2mksf3tGZZp9d6-H8d-A">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
    I had a salad <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/whirlows-tossed-and-grilled-stockton-3?select=6gFHy-BO5F9TGTnF-GYKPA#4DW2wo1zq0XjTsGFv0X1Lg">http://www.yelp.com/biz_…</a>
and soup for sides.  Sides were good.

Service is cafeteria style.  You order
at the counter, pay, get your utensils
and seat yourself.  The server brought
my dinner to me.  I think normally they
call your name and you pick up your
order at the counter...or why else did
    they ask for my name?

Some of their food is good...but I
wouldn't order prime rib here again.

    Yummy yogurt shop next door....

I love the sandwiches here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've tried almost all of them but Portobello Mushroom Burger has to be my fave! Love the healthier options and love that they have a yogurt shop right next door too! Service is quick, and the only problem really is finding parking since it's on Miracle Mile!

Usually I love this place. Salads are always tossed fresh with plenty of toppings to choose from. Sandwiches are decently sized, I usually can only eat half but thats good for people with bigger appetites.

I love that its attached to a yogurt place! Its the perfect little light- dessert after a filling meal.

The reason its getting two stars is because my half-salad tasted like it was swimming in Ranch. I honestly couldnt even eat it. Next time I know to ask for "light on the ranch" !

I always enjoy Whirlow's food. The owners and staff are always friendly and helpful. Tuesday is Karaoke night. Wednesday is Open Mic night....Whirlow's has become the prime spot for top notch local jazz musicians to play on Thursdays and Fridays. If you're anywhere near, stop in..

I tried the Turkey Pesto Aioli Sandwich, upon the recommendations of yelp reviews, and was beyond satisfied. The ingredients were fresh, the turkey was delicious, it was the perfect size, and I was so happy and stuffed afterwards, I could have died happy. I also had the side of their sweet potato fries, and they were some of the best sweet potato fries I've had in a while. So delicious, so crispy, and just so good.

Definitely going to come back to this place in the future. It's the perfect place for lunch. It's close to the UOP campus, and it's reasonably priced, especially for the quality of food you get. Plus, it's a very casual place. Very chill. The people who work their are super friendly and nice. Definitely give this place a shot, it's awesome.

Whirlow's is a great place for healthy lunch made with fresh ingredients.
Their menu boasts many different salads and sandwiches, or you can create your own salad just the way you like it.  What's better than to be able to pick your own salad toppings, type of lettuce, dressing, and meat (if you so choose)?!  Whirlow's is very similar to another create-your-own-salad type of place up in the Sacramento area.  In my opinion, Whirlow's hasn't quite perfected the art, but it does satisfy the craving for a decent salad made with all of your favorite toppings.
There are two locations, one on the Miracle Mile and the other in Lincoln Center.  I have only been to the Miracle Mile location.  The restaurant is conveniently located on a corner and parking is easily found on one of the side streets.
The restaurant itself is always clean and the staff are nice.  If you make your own salad you start by picking what type of greens you want; romaine, mixed greens, spinach.  Then you get to pick 7 of your favorite salad toppings.  They have all sorts of fresh veggies, legumes, different cheeses, and crunchy toppings.  Pick your dressing to either be mixed in by them or served on the side.  You can add grilled tri-tip, chicken, or roasted turkey meat (specify white meat, dark meat, or a mix) for an additional fee.  Sometimes a piece of dry bread is served with the salad and sometimes not.
The last time that I visited I also had the sweet potato fries, which were good.  They are your standard sweet potato fries.  The fries were dusted with season salt and served with some sort of creamy dipping sauce (which I didn't try).
A much better alternative to many of the salads served at the major restaurant chains.  Ingredients are fresh and the service is usually pretty quick.  It's worth a trip down the Miracle Mile.

1st time here and I wasn't disappointed. It's clean and roomy and they have a good selection of food with big portions. Food tasted great and you could smell the turkey ( thanksgiving everyday ) the staff was very friendly and checked on our table regularly to see if we needed anything. On my to go list and highly recommend.

I love Whirlows. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Stockton! They have two locations, but this is the main one and the one that attracts more people. I've noticed that there are a lot of "regulars" at Whirlows that keep coming back, thus the restaurant has a pretty good retention rate.

FOOD: So delicious. I used to get Ryan's pulled pork sandwich all the time, but my current favorite is the turkey pesto sandwich. It's delicious and the turkey comes from a freshly carved turkey! However, my FAVORITE food item is the sweet potato fries! I don't know what it is, but I'm convinced Whirlows has the best sweet potato fries, ever. They also come with a delicious dipping sauce which makes them even better!

If you are a Pacific student, you get a free soda! Definitely a nice plus.

The owners, Mike and Lisa Whirlow, are very friendly and love talking to the customers.

They ripped out a corner of the restaurant and turned it into a little stage where they have live music every week! There's karaoke on Tuesday nights, and they have a lot of live jazz and other music during other days of the week. The restaurant is a lot more packed on these nights.

Parking: They've got a small parking lot in the back, but if that's full, there's street parking in front and along Miracle Mile.

Overall, I love Whirlows and am really going to miss it once I graduate from Pacific. It's a great local business with delicious food and a friendly, comfortable atmosphere!

NOTE: One thing that I wish Whirlows still had is PACIFIC CASH. Their other location at the Lincoln Center used to take it, but they got rid of it a few months ago. I stopped going to Whirlows every week when I found out they stopped taking it. I don't think this location has ever taken Pacific Cash, but I would reeeeally appreciate if they got it because I would definitely come back more often.

I don't like meat cause it looks weird and has no flavor unless you pile on a whole slop of sauce. Now whatever sauce Whirlow's has, it is good sauce!

I stood in line and waited for a good fat 10 minutes or so until the couple in front of me finally finished their debate on which meat to get (let's get a going, meat is meat), decided on all their sides, and found enough change to pay for their food. Miracle Mile crowd, you are slow.

Our whole table of 10 people got the BBQ pulled pork, the BBQ baby back ribs, or the smoked tri tip. Everybody was happy - me included! And I don't like meat!

If I ever need to find an eatery for a meateater, I know to come here and get the BBQ pulled pork!

I've been eating here since it opened. You know you've found a great place when you end up taking every person you know there. Now people who I took there are acting like they found it and have made it their own favorite place.

I've eaten pretty much everything on the menu and it's all to my loving. My favorite is the California steak sandwich, but I would definitely also recommend the salad (great options) the mushroom sandwich (such a surprisingly good food), and when they have it, the prime rib dinner is top notch.

    Excellent side dishes.

Mama and Papa Whirlow (as I refer to them to my friends/family) are often there serving you secretly, but I've got them figured out. Everyone is friendly. They will accommodate you in a way that's become a lost art in America. They are as much about service as food.

The first time I came here I thought the place must be a chain restaurant from back east that is taking over. This was because it was so well designed and managed. I went digging and found out it is the second of two Whirlow's, both are in Stockton and both are owned by the Whirlow couple you might bump into if you visit this wonderful place.

This last time I visited I noticed they've taken to letting live bands play, which just makes this already 5 star place that much better.

I called in my order, they said it will be ready in 20 mins because they were really busy :-(  I wasn't happy about that. When I got there, the lady that rang me up was super nice and down to earth.
I ordered the California Steak and sweet potato fries with aioli sauce. The sandwich was ok, the fries were to die for! I'm definitely returning!

A great place for the working crowd on a weekday lunch, this place is usually a good bet. They're a no frills soup, salad, and sandwich place. You go in, line up, order, they make it on the spot, you pay, and sit down to eat.

My only complaint is that the service behind the counter can be a bit slow and inefficient sometimes. Since everyone is waiting in line for their food to be made, it can seem like a long wait. Other places may have vibrators (*ahem* vibrating pager systems) to signal when your food is ready; that way you can sit down and have a drink or chat while you're waiting.

However, the food is pretty good considering they make it pretty quickly. My favorite is probably the salmon sandwich. I've also tried the sweet potato fries, but they're not as salty as I would like. It also comes with a standard ranch dressing, which isn't too interesting.

All in all though, a solid lunch place along miracle mile.

Beware - these crooks will up-sell you without even telling you. I've never had an establishment throw in extras without telling you of added costs.

It was our first visit here and we ordered $8 meals. When my husband told me he paid $32 I thought something was off.
I took the receipt back up to the counter and explained that we ordered their 1/2 and 1/2 special - she explained that we actually received more food.
    True.
But I reminded her that we simply answered her questions, she asked us to choose our side. She didn't say, would you like anything else. When a restaurant asks you to choose your side, it is ALWAYS an included side, not an Additional side.

I told her that was so unfair - this was our first time here and we left not feeling cheated, but feeling scammed. She admitted, and used the term "up-selling".

Note to management ***Part of the employee training needs to include, what to repeat to the customers and what not to repeat to the customers***

In her defense, she did offer to give us $2.00 back. REALLY, for what? That wasn't even a reimbursement amount for one item. It offended me more and I told her to never mind. (thinking - time to YELP!)

I think I was satisfied with the food but left with a stomach ache, I really felt scammed!

It's been awhile since I've come back to Whirlow's. When it first opened up on the Mile I tried it out and wasn't too impressed. I came back a month ago to try it again and had a better experience food wise but I guess it's hard to enjoy a good meal when your fighting with your significant other over something as stupid as an orange. Yes, it was one of those dumb fights that was so meaningless but I still fought and argued over it like I was elected into British Parliament. Long story short I had the steak salad and she had the steak sandwich. I can't tell you what was on it because I was angry over the whole dumb orange thing (not Chris Brown angry though, don't worry) but they were both good.

I do like this place but there is also something I don't like about it, to me it feels very empty in there. I've come back twice since and both times there were dirty dishes on the tables, no customers and plenty of staff moping around that should have cleaned it up. It may just be me but just by the look and demeanor of the staff I have this fear over the cleanliness of the restaurant and the freshness of the food. I know they are younger and doing this to get by but they really just have that "I could really give a f*ck about your steak salad" look on their face. I'm just worried that they don't give a f*ck about other things like keeping the kitchen space clean. Ok I'm done for now. This place is a three star for me, just A-OK.

Overall this is a solid lunch spot for Stockton.

Similar to Jack's Urban Eats in Sac, Whirlow's offers order-at-the-counter sandwiches, salads and sides. Prices were a little more than I'd liked to have seen, especially for the veggie sandwich I ordered. It cost over $8 (without a side), and was simply cheese, lettuce, onion and tomato. More cheese, avocado, or something else should have been in there to help beef it up (ha!) and justify the price tag.

There was a great variety of sides though, including some killer sweet potato fries (featuring chipotle ranch), and blue cheese onion rings (which I was feeling too healthy to order).

It was quick, and the employees were friendly. Overall it was a solid lunch experience, which is always nice to find in Stockton.

Whirlow's is awesome, I usually get the California steak Sandwich or the cob salad.  I've had the pulled pork as well as the tri-tip which are also good.  Brunch is the best for the money, it's all you can eat too!  I LOVE to come here with friends, grab a beer, and hang out.  There is always live music in the evening, and the people here are super classy (which makes it MUCH more enjoyable than other Stockton hangouts). It's my home away from home!

When I want to get something reasonably healthy and freshly made for dinner, I hit Whirlow's on the Mile. I tend to order a salad, favorite is the Tri-Tip and it is always fresh and delicious.

I've had the sandwiches, pulled pork and roasted turkey are both very good. Basic food, well prepared and the restaurant has a good vibe.

It's especially nice in the early evening, owners Mike and Lisa Whirlow offer live music for free, and some of it is pretty good. For under $10 you can get a decent meal and some tunes. What's not to like!?

    3.5 stars.

My reasoning for not giving this place 4 stars is portion size. The bbq sandwich with brisket, I believe...? was pretty good, had nice depth in flavor and the sauce wasn't overpoweringly sweet. The fries were ok, I think they were shoe string fries and super crunchy.

But, the size of the sandwich was so sadly small. I was starving that day and only managed to fill up sitting there because my friend and I got into a deep conversation that involved religion and drinking lots of water. At the point, the bread probably expanded in my stomach, giving me that fake feeling of fullness (unintended alliteration lol).

And the prices aren't that affordable for such a small portion. I'm not sure if I'd come back. But I'm biased. I'm not really much of a sandwich person. I never feel like they fill you up. I like getting my money's worth!

So I was just driving down Pacific Ave in Stockton doin my usual routine (being late as hell for work), and I needed to grab a quick bite so I wouldn't starve to death while my boss gave me crap for being late for the 100th time.

I had previously heard about Whirlow's before, since I work for a magazine company that voted this place as one of their top restaurants or some sh**, but anyway, I walked in and was amazed by the amount of nice looking customers and clean environment. I usually go by one rule in Stockton. If the customers are nice looking white people, then the place is probably decent.

I got a roasted turkey sandwich and a salad to go and it was bomb even though they messed up my order (i ordered a California Steak Sandwich). I'm a fan of Pluto's restaurant chain and I've always been jealous of my friends that go to UC Davis for having one. But I can honestly say that this place is as good, or possibly even better than Pluto's. They are very generous with the portions ( I got a half salad that filled up a whole to-go-box) and they are very quick to make your order, which in most other places would be a bad thing.

I highly recommend this place to college students who are looking for something to eat that isn't a crappy fast food joint or a cheap sushi restaurant, so be sure to stop by and check this place out.

The food is not the greatest here, but you will be satisfied to the point were you spent your money well. The ciabatta was pretty good but whatever is in the middle is pretty dry and tasteless. It didn't "knock my socks off". The fries and onion rings are pretty basic.

There are plenty of places where I'd rather eat, but come here just to try it out. You might like it.

Order the Blake's Turkey and Pesto Aioli Sandwich!

It's oven roasted turkey breast, provolone cheese, pesto aioli, tomato, lettuce and onion.  You also have you choice between wheat or ciabatta roll.  The turkey is moist and the pesto aioli is creamy and delicious!  It also came with a pickle spear and a slice of orange :)  For $1.50 more I added an order of french fries which were a tad too salty in my opinion but the sandwich made up for the disappointment.

Lots and lots of ample seating and friendly staff.

Don't understand why this place isn't packed! We like this Miracle Mile location more than Lincoln Center mostly due to the live music that accompanies the delicious food. Been here a few times over the last few months, enjoying the burgers, the pulled pork, sweet potato fries, garlic fries, prime rib... you really can't go wrong! Everything is fresh, tasty and served by friendly young folks. Nice that they have diet Dr Pepper on tap (something different) though this last visit I gulped down a delightful bottle of Newcastle brown ale (YUMM!!!!). Good selection of burgers, sandwiches as well as casseroles and lots of fresh salad and veggie selections.

Wow how could anyone not love this place? I ate here with a friend yesterday for the first time. There were 2 people working behind the counter that both were very attentive and extremely helpful. We ordered a salad that you build yourself and it was incredible. Along the line we didn't really know what we were doing, or what to really expect as the layout is different than most food places, but the guy helping us was patient and helpful so it made us feel good. he recommended top selling items, didn't make us feel lie if we switched it up a bit we were troubling them and made sure to check on us throughout our time there.

Now for the best part ... the food. I have had burgers from more places than my arteries care to remember, but none like this one. This was not my first blue cheese burger, and it will certainly not be my last, but to date it is honestly my best. Not just the best of the blue cheese, but also the best of any burger I have had homemade or purchased out. The burger however took second place to the sweet potato fries. The best fries I had previously had was from Ciopinno's on Fisherman's Wharf in the city. These one upped them for sure, and I never thought that could be done. The fries were perfectly golden, perfectly salted, and their sauce is one of the best I have ever tasted. So overall, 2 locations in Stockton, friendly, and caring staff, and food that was worth three times what I paid. highly recommended!

Was there on a Thursday night to hear live music. Loved it. If you have a sweet tooth afterward mosey next door to the yogurt shop. They share a door so effortless to get there. Be sure to download shopkick app to get discounts next time you're there.

I just finish Ribs and Buffalo fries.  Second time to eat here, both were good not excellent.  Place is kinda too open for me!  Food is all good just not over the top.  People working here are nice, but sorta drop the food and disappear.

If you ordered fries, "the catchup is over there."  If you have a salad, "the forks are over there." I would call them "FOOD COURT ATTENDANTS" not servers.

Something about this place says; "Sit down, Shut up, Eat your food, Get your ass out."  I can't put my finger on it, but both times I was here, I liked the food so I wanted it to be more welcoming,  It is not.

I liked the food, but I probably won't be back.

I got the California Steak burger, and I dunno if it was because I just got back from a 10 hour shift at the Pharmacy and only had 2 granola bars all day, but it was fucking delicious.Kind of pricey ($6-7 per sandwich), but the servings are decent and it was worth it.

Also got the fries, they give you a lot so you can probably split it with another person to save some cash. I got the regular fries with buffalo sauce on the side, wasn't as great as the clerk person recommended, so I'm going to try the garlic fries next time.

Place looks pretty new and clean, people there are nice, and they give you free drinks with student ID.

Bottom line: above average sandwich place and you get free drinks with student ID.

I'm upset. I have been to Whirlow's on other occasions, and their portabella mushroom sandwich is AMAZING...but today I decided to try the ceaser salad. I ordered it with no chicken, because i'm a vegetarian. I ordered it to go because I was on lunch. I got back to my office, opened it up, and immediately was freaked out because there was black olives on it....wtf?! On a ceaser salad? Oh well, I picked them off...then I noticed that the lettuce was compeltely wilty and unedible. I was so grossed out. I threw the whole thing away. And now im sitting at my desk starving. Thanks whirlow's.

The sandwiches here are really good, but it seems a bit on the pricey side for me. The "Cal-Steak" sandwich seems to be one of the most popular sandwiches and I like it a lot! They top it with onion rings which really set it off for me. The pulled pork is also another great option here. One of the best spots to pick up a hot sandwich in the area.

If you're from Sacramento, you might be familiar with either Pluto's in Arden of Jack's Urban Eats in Midtown, Arden, and Rancho. It's pretty similar, they have a salad station and a sandwich station, but they also serve meat entrees like ribs and pulled pork or chicken. The sides are really good too, I always get the sweet potato fries. I always get Ryan's pulled pork sandwich and don't seem to ever be disappointed by it.

It gets really crowded around the lunch hour because many people from downtown come here to eat. I think Pacific students get discounts or something too.

Well, the menu seems pretty hit and miss to me. The Oriental Chicken Salad isn't too good, basically crunched up top ramen for crunchy noodles with hardly any dressing or oranges and peanuts. The Raspberry Chicken Blue Cheese Salad is pretty good, but once again not enough dressing. My Aunt had the Turkey and thought it was good, but the gravy was real watery. I've tried the Turkey Pesto and it was pretty good, I just wish the ciabatta wasn't so hard. One big problem I have is for the price they really should include a bag of chips or fries with their sandwiches. Once you add that and a drink you are over 10 bucks a person. And don't forget to grab napkins yourself on your way out, cuz they aren't put in the bag for you.
