If you're unfamiliar with Grand Island like I was and it's dark because it's closing in on 1am, this place can be hard to find coming from the south.   Look over your left shoulder though, and you'll see it.

This was a good, basic roadhouse-style dive. Though the kitchen was closed the food smelled good.   The big screen TVs were on the Game Show channel for whatever reason.  

I have to give kudos to White Horse Tavern for being open.   We had been striking out a lot that night, finding many of the bars downtown closed well before their posted hours.

If you need a beer at 6am the White Horse will be open.  If you need beer or liquor to go at 5 minutes to 1am, the White Horse will give it to you, even if you are fucked up (which you will be if you started drinking at 6am).  Even though the smoking ban is in effect, the place still smells like the dive it is.  Digital jukebox music now means you have more musical choices than the Charlie Daniels Band or Styx or whatever the fuck else they used to have.   If you are there at 10am you better like to watch Price Is Right, you can even join in the Price Is Right betting pool.
