On the river but still easy to overlook, an interesting throwback Bistro. Complete with aproned waitstaff and live piano, this is a cool restaurant at sunset. The meal starts with fresh rosemary bread from the bush outback. The pasta is home made as are the sauces and, BTW the salad dressing. I am not a pasta lover but the pesce sauce made what was one of the best meals I have had in a while. So, slow down, enjoy a glass of wine, a nice meal, and the wonderful view. And, if you are lucky you may get a lesson by the owner on the origin of pesce sauce ... Or just go to http://www.whiteoakriver….
Review Source:What a wonderful find in this small beach town! The service was incredible- our waiter was knowledgable, polite and enthusiastic. The food was absolutely amazing. A diner in our party cannot eat dairy so the chef seemed more than willing to prepare her a special basil pesto sauce without cheese! Wine and beer selection is great, also a full bar is available. The atmosphere is rustic- has the feel of a woodsy cabin (complete with fireplace and candles) with the added benefit of outdoor dining in the warmer seasons. Will be back here again and again!
Review Source:I love this place! It's the best food I've had anywhere near Jacksonville, and I recommend it to all my friends.
I ate there when we were stationed at Lejeune in 2007 and again in 2009/2010, so it's been a while. However, their gorgonzola scallops are still memorable. Tasty bread, wonderful and cozy outside seating area. Don't pass this up if you're in Jacksonville/Swansboro! You'll be missing out on a star.
We went in here for lunch thinking it would be super delicious based on the reviews. There was one other patron in the ENTIRE place and we had the worst service ever. It took forever to get our drinks, the waitress had little menu knowledge and then our food... Which was just salads seriously took at least 30 minutes to come out. I must saw the croutons were good. Definitely not going back or taking any out if town guests like I had with me at the time.
Review Source:San Diego to Jacksonville NC caused me some foodie shock, but this place was the cure. A scant 20 min drive from Jacksonville, (I drive further for my civilian work commute) this oasis of fine dining is now my second kitchen, though I am stuck on their stuffed grouper-delicious!! And the wait staff is friendly.
Review Source:I went here on a trip to NC in 2003 and was very pleased by the ambience and the service. I doubt the waiter is still there, but he was a good server and attentive, as was the rest of the staff. It also had a very Californian-like cuisine feel to it. It wasn't like going to the dive Chinese restaurant we ventured to and got sick stomaches the following day (this Chinese restaurant was shut down shortly after my visit, who knew?? lol)
From what I remember, I had a chicken dish which was very well done. Sauce complimented it well.
Overall, this kind of restaurant is a rarity in this part of North Carolina (unless you go to that place, Clawsons, which is famous for its seafood).
This was a really nice restaurant. Â I went here on a recent trip to North Carolina and was impressed by both the food and the atmosphere.
I got the scallops with the cream sauce with pine nuts and spinach and was very pleased. Â It was a bit heavy, but overall good. Â My date got the zupa. Â It was really good and provided us with leftovers a couple of days later as the thing was HUGE. Â We could have split it and we would have been fine.
Our waitress was perfect: fantastic service combined with a bit of sass made for great fun. Â I think her name was Alexis. Â The outdoor environment with the riverside view was perfect and I really enjoyed the dining experience.
My only gripe, and this is a small one, is that they installed indoor ceiling fans outside. Â The metal blade holders bent due to the elements and the blades were sagging. Â It caused one of the fans to be noisy. Â That's it, though.
Very nice rustic atmosphere. Excellent service and tasty food. The Italian Wedding soup was just the ticket on a cold night and the tiramisu torte was scrumptious. The Italian Sausage with Penne was tasty, but the sausage could have been spicier (admittedly, the menu says "mild") and the sauce lacked zip. My wife's impression of the Fettuccine with Meatballs was the same. All in all a fine meal; just not outstanding.
