If I'm not careful here, I'll bust into story mode. Â We're here to speak only of food. Â It is a buffet. Â Apache Gold food service has found what works for the locale. Â The locals love Taco Tuesday - all tacos, all Tuesday, all the time. Â Saturdays and Sundays it's prime rib, five 'til nine. Â Weekdays a decent lunch is served, with the standard items you expect from a buffet. Â Entrees of chicken, turkey, chinese, etc. Â Salad greens and canned fruits, drinks and dessert. Â Friday is fish day, mostly seafood buffet. Â All you can eat shrimp, cod, shrimp, fish sticks, crab, shrimp. Â People talk lots about the shrimp. Â
I got through this one without a story. Â My mom would be proud. Â Â Somewhere is a blog I've never written where the stories are told. Â The cooks of San Carlos are in that blog.
After fasting from buffet for two days, it was time to get to someplace new that would probably be pretty good & wolf down, so I got together with Mike C & we whipped over to this place to check it out.
A couple of "sub-utopian" things turned up here, so let's get them out of the way first:
* Â We arrived before they open at 11, but the two soups, Chicken Noodle & Tomato Bacon, were both very late coming out... closer to 12. Â Didn't they know they were going to open at 11?
* Â The chili could have been pretty good, but it was only lukewarm, & the same was true of the roast turkey.
Ah, but there were things to love, too: Â Â :-))
This is a comfortable restaurant, & the table service was good. Â The salad bar was nice, with a variety of goodies that included different kinds of cheese, plus cottage cheese & Ranch Dressing that were both really creamy & good. Â There were sliced almonds too, to sprinkle on your salad. Â I thought that was a nice touch.
For hot food, there was very good spaghetti & meat sauce, better than you usually find at a buffet. Â The Rigatoni with a tomato sauce & cheese was tasty too, as were the fried chicken & the mashed potatoes. Â There were also flame broiled chicken breasts that were straight-up terrific! Â Hamburgers, hot dogs, & a number of other hot foods were available, & of course, desserts. Â I thought it was quite good overall.
Lunch Buffet, held Monday and Wednesday through Friday, is $7.95, $6.76 Sr.
