This was my second vist to Wild Horse on my way home from a weekend kamikaze trip to Reno, NV, and I have to say it has become one of the staples of our trip home. Â According to the stickers on their window they're known for pizza, but I've only eaten their burgers, and as my rating says, I'm a fan. Â Maybe I'll try the pizza next time? Â Nawwwwww..... that would break the tradition.
To be honest, I have never eaten anywhere else in Minden, so I can't definitively say that this is the best burger that Minden has to offer, but I enjoy them quite a bit. Â I had the "Hickory" which is what you would expect from a western type burger (Lettuce, Tomato, Onion Ring, Cheese, and the beef patty) all topped with a tangy smoky bbq sauce that gets all over the place, so be ready with the napkins. Â The bun is not your typical bun, but it holds together nicely and they toast it for a few second right before assembly. Â It's hard to describe completely, but you'll have to just go there and check it out for yourself.
I stopped by mid-afternoon on a Sunday, and the place was pretty empty. Â The workers seem to be pretty die hard Nascar fans as the race was held due to rain and they were watching the cars sit there in the pits. Â Then the news cutover to what they though was another race (which was actually a replay of this year's Daytona 500), and were cheering on the cars. Â Well, at least until the realized that this was a replay and the rest they were watching was still being held. Â (It made me laugh!)
I make this trip to Reno once a year, and now that I've been twice I'm going to have to make it a tradition. Â :)
One of my favorite local spots from when I lived in the area.
They've been given the best burger in town award for practically the last decade, they must be doing something right.
I must say while I am a fan of their big, juicy burgers. My favorite thing is their Tuna sandwich. They top it with slightly toasted sourdough bread and my heart melts. Add to that their warm fries with that special seasoning and home made ranch. I die.
I have heard from some friends who still live in the area that the place has gone down hill since the last time I've been, I strongly hope that's not the case. I guess I will have to make the trip back home and find out for myself. For old times sake.
Ate here Sunday, came here because of the coupon in the entertainment book, the service was very good a nice waitress but when we got the menu it completely overshadowed the old style decor and the friendly service of the place. Â I mean nine bucks for your cheapest burger? Come on, I feel the place has been rated "best burger" so many times that they have gotten cocky and jacked up there prices, with a fifty pulse bill for the four of use to go and have burgers I will not be coming back.
Review Source:oh Wildhorse how I appreciate you let me count the ways:
- watching sports and eating food without getting smoked out
- good burgers, fries, zuchinnis, pizza; cheap drinks
how you can make it better:
- service is perpetually lacking. Â It isn't messed up orders bad but never have I felt that I was encouraged to come back. Â The kitchen is the only part getting it right
- draft beer selection isn't wide but at least two of the taps need a clean
Put No for groups cause the strain on the servers is too much
GREAT sandwiches/burgers at very reasonable prices. Â They have about a dozen different burgers, including at least one vegetarian choice (but I think it's just a Gardenburger, if I'm remembering this correctly). Â
We eat here quite a bit, but we haven't been able to tear ourselves away from the burgers because they're so damn good. Â One trick is that they bake their own buns onsite, fresh daily. Â This makes for one delicious burger!
The pizza LOOKS good, but we haven't tried it yet. Â Other locals have reported that it is good, too. Â After we try it, I'll update this review. Â
The waitresses are all friendly, attentive, and hard-working. Â
The restaurant is divided into a casual, bistro-like restaurant and a "regular" full bar, so you can enjoy the food with kids and family or with other adults.
