My mother and I come here just about every Thursday and have been for about the past year or so. The food is good, not outstanding or anything but worth its price. Â I like the wing bar even tho it might be a little pricey. Â The service is always friendly and quick so its great for lunch!
Review Source:Okay maybe it was because we had to drive so far to get here, but this place was not that great. I have been to the location in Marietta, GA and I liked that one better.
Someone had the great idea to drive all the way to Spartanburg from Greenville (over 25 miles) for wings. The whole way I was thinking that these better be the best wings in the world only to pull up to Wild Wing Café that I can have back home. The people who had gotten there earlier (probably because they did not have to drive 25 miles to get there!) had already ordered for everyone which I always find annoying. Everything they ordered was really spicy or something weird. Who does not order lemon pepper especially when you order 150 wings? I asked for some medium, and at first was told the kitchen was closed, but luckily they said they had some medium left.
Average wings, far away location. I guess if you live in Spartanburg or for some reason are going there or get lost there it might be worth it. I did see a lot of Buffalo's Southwest Café driving through South Carolina though so I would recommend them more especially on Wednesday for the all you can eat special. At least I got some delicious Hooters wings on Sunday.
Shagging. Â I am not talking Austin Powers either. Â I am talking about the true Carolina classic dance- shagging.
This is the sole reason this Wild Wing gets three stars, otherwise for food and service it gets two stars.
If you are familiar with shagging or want to take the out-of-towners someplace where they will be entertained - Sunday nights, upstairs after six the fun begins. Â The couple who 'host' the night give a quick introductory lesson- you learn the steps and two basic turns. Â Then the music really starts up! Â The night included shagging and other line dances. Â There were folks there of ALL ages. Â College kids to folks in their eighties. Â It is especially a great night with margarita and beer specials. Hey- a little liquid courage never hurt anyone.
Twelve wings, two side salads, and something like twenty margaritas later and the tab was seventy bucks. I told you liquid courage was involved!
The food: Â is mediocre. Â I get medium wings. They are hot enough for me. Â I also get a side salad- nothing special.
The beverage: When I get wings I want a beer. A COLD beer. Â The beer is never cold here! Â Part of the reason is their glasses are always warm. Â Yuck.
The service: Â Hit or miss. Â Like Rocco P. said in his review. Â I also hate seeing people who work in the same establishment who are now off of work and hanging out- getting better service than me. Â I will be the one tipping you later!
You should also know that there will be smoking inside- I do not see that law changing anytime soon. Â You are in tobacco country.
Side note: Â Rumor is this Wild Wing is shutting its doors.
I am sure that almost everyone has been to one of these as they are a national chain, however, I had to include it because my family enjoys it so much. Â We eat here on a regular basis. Â I really enjoy the atmosphere. Â Many large HD TV's showing a variety of sporting events. Â Great music. Â Live bands upstairs. Â Located in a restored old building downtown. Â Plenty of seating and there is still a short wait on the weekends. Â However, this is not a problem. Â Get a beer and enjoy the music or sit outside. Â We happened to be there for the opening of the Olympics. Â The event had not started yet when we were seated but none of the TV's were tuned to the broadcast network. Â I asked the waitress if she would change the channel on a large screen close to us so my daughter could watch the opening while we ate. Â No problem. Â Originally I would get wings almost exclusively. Â Many great varieties of spice and flavor to choose from. Â I like them hot. Â Now I get ribs regularly. Â My wife still enjoys the wings. Â Buys way to many and then eats them for the next few days. Â The kids menu is not the best but is on par with most places. Â My youngest doesn't seem to mind but my eldest would rather have my ribs and a house salad. Â They need to have a cheaply priced childs rib plate or something like that. Â The bottom line is that we all really enjoy going. Â Additionally, it is a pleasure to go downtown Spartanburg for a change. Â For so many years there was no reason to go. Â We need more of that and I salute the individual that had the guts to put this restaurtant down town. Â That definately adds to the atmosphere. Â I doubt that we would go as often if not for the location and the feel of that old building. Â Four stars for the atmosphere and location in my city. Â I'm sure that this varies drastically from place to place. Â Could easily drop to 2 or 3 stars if the atmosphere were differnent.
