Love me some Wimpy's! Â We've been here for breakfast and lunch, and it does not disappoint. Â We are talking "river food" here and it is excellent for what they do. Â Burgers are good, salads are fresh, and the breakfast choices are ample. Â The service is professional and the food is delivered quickly. A full bar is a good thing too!
Update. Â Today we went for the Sunday special: Eggs Benedict. Â They were very good with one glaring exception-- the English muffin was NOT toasted! Â It just sat there like a soggy, spongy blob giving the entire dish a one-note, soft texture. Who doesn't toast the English muffin on eggs Bene? Â I had the server ask the cook to clarify, and indeed it was true....."the cook just warms them". Â Wrong answer! Â A toasted English muffin adds a crispy, crunchy texture to the gooey egg and hollandaise. (It's not a sponge to soak up water from the poached egg.) I had to remove a star for this egregious oversight. The good news is the hollandaise tasted made from scratch (not Aunt Penny's) and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Hash browns were crispy and hot. Â It's worth the Sunday drive by boat or car....just be sure to request a toasted English muffin.
We almost gave up on this serendipitous little gem a few years ago, when the economy was down. It just wasn't consistent back then. We'd try it out now and again and are very happy that it has been back on form for the past couple of years. We've eaten there several times in the past couple of months for breakfast or lunch and have really enjoyed each visit.
The food is fine, with a surprisingly varied menu for a Delta restaurant. My Eggs Benedict today were perfect and the Fish & Chips run a close second to the best we can find in the Delta. The toast was fresh and tasty and the country fries with peppers and onion worked perfectly. The coffee is always good.
Meals have always been good value at Wimpy's and the service is attentive without being fussy or annoying. Everyone seems happy to be there and that makes it a joy to sit and watch the boaters and wildlife.
Drinks here are generally great, but my wife's Bloody Mary wasn't as good today as it usually is. It tasted like the insidious ready made mix that seems to be invading the Delta, rather than a freshly made one. If it weren't for that, this review would be a 5-Star [Delta grading] one.
We have come here many times for a late lunch while we were on the water. Â The food has always been good and consistent. Â
WE were out on the water early and decided to hit Wimpy's for breakfast. Â They did not disappoint. Â I got eggs benedict and my wife and friend got the homemade corn beef hash. Â Both were excellent. Â The Bloody Mary's were pretty good as well.
It's a marina restaurant, and it really doesn't look like much. But wait, there's more! Try their cheeseburgers, they have enough artery hardening awesomeness to keep you coming back. The chicken basket and fries are really good. Any cocktail you might want the bar will deliver. We hit this place a least once a month during our motorcycle rides through the Delta area. You can get there from land and water.
Review Source:Over priced for frozen then deep fryed food, I eat here a couple times a month Only because it's the only place around for 10 miles so if I don't have time to make breakfast I'll get a order to go. There gravey, canned, there chili canned, Â hash browns frozen. There way over priced and the food is barely eddible, portions are small and staff is rude. I have eaten here a hundred times and from day one they have been the same so it wasn't a fluke. Go to walnut grove if you have the time and are looking for a diner
Review Source:If you're looking for a burger, fries, salad ($8) and a draft beer ($2.5) on the water at a marina close to Sac, give Wimpy's a try. Â They also have breakfast, lunch and dinner. Â At lunch, they have burgers, sandwiches and fish and chips. Â On Sat night, they serve prime rib. Â The food is cheap and plenty filling. Â The beer is ice cold.
I don't know if you want to make the drive down to Wimpy's unless you're going fishing in the delta. Â But when fishing in the delta, Wimpy's is a great stop. Â It's convenient. Â They have a small marina, cement launch, nearby trailer park and Wimpy's. Â Lots of big stripers have been pulled out close by.
A-ok, cuz the hubs can get the prime rib he craves for a reasonable price. Meh for me because a non-meat eater has few options. Yes, there's chicken but mine, served cold with a sprinkling of cheese on top and a bit of marinara. This was called chicken Parmesan? I asked ahead if this selection was a frozen entree or fresh prepared, I was assured everything is fresh. I tend to disagree.
But folks, let's remember, this is the Delta and Wimpy's, definitely a dive in the real sense of the word. There's an accordion vinyl door separating the very active and lively bar from the dining room; not a large enough buffer zone and might as well be in the very same room.
We arrived a bit after 7pm and not a soul in the dining room but the bar; standing room only.
In the middle of our meal the 70's Rock & Roll Karaoke came out; not a good ear in the bunch.
I'm attributing the lull in the dining room to the pounding rain and thunder outside. Had we come a bit earlier, it may have been less noisy in the bar.
Don't get me wrong, I love Wimpy's but if you're looking to have anything other than the prime rib (served Saturday nite's only),burger & fries, or a country breakfast, you may be disappointed.
It's only four stars because the entertaining drunk bartender lady made some really good, really ass kicking Mai-Tai's as the owner sipped his beer on the customer side of the bar and watched the show.
The good, you can reach it by boat on the South Fork of the Mokelumne River on the Delta, the mixed drinks were killer, the foods ok and the view of the river from the down stairs open bar is very pituresque and peacefull. Â They have a nice dock to park your boat at too.
The bad, the foods just ok to good, not fabulos, the downstairs open bar area was closed the last two times I was there and from a boaters point of view, most people arrive by car.
Aside from the killer drinks, it's a nice three star dive bar/cafe combo with a nice view of the river.
Yes I confess, that fourth star is soley a salute to those great Mai-Tai's.
2 stars for the food, the fries are decent, and 1 extra star for the cool patio on the water.
I dunno if this gets good reviews because most of the people are getting off the water with sunstroke, but the burgers were not amazing and the grilled cheese sandwich was burnt. Â I really loved the salads' Â "don't ever order me again" attitude: huge chunks and leaves of iceberg lettuce that would normally be slapped on a burger or used as a garnish, with a side of ranch.
Roughly $7.99 a burger with a side of pretty decent steak fries. Â Skip the salad option altogether. Â No kid menu. Â Iced Tea was weak sauce.
Could be fun though if you are out on the water all day and want to have a drink  on the patio before pulling your boat out of the delta.
But I liked the patio area. Â I would just get a beer and watch the swallows and the other birds swooping over the fisherman puttering in from the slough from the deck next time. But since we were going hiking up at the nature preserve, we skipped the beerses.
