We found this place by accident while walking around downtown Tuesday afternoon and we're so glad we did. The woman helping us was great and very informative, plus she put up with some of us who were slightly buzzed, haha. We ordered a tasting each which consisted of 3 whites and 3 reds for $10, such a great deal. We also ordered a cheese, bread and nut plate for $14 I think. We spent about an hour there total, but for the first 45 minutes we were the only ones sitting, which was nice. The tastings were just enough in each glass and our food plate had quite a bit, we even got some chocolates, too. The wines were all so good, though, I couldn't pick a favorite. We had such a great time catching up in a really nice atmosphere. The bathroom was clean, but a bit dark, haha. Our bill was only $73 for everything and that was for 5 of us drinking, not too bad for a great experience with friends and family. My sister also bought a bottle of CA white wine for about $20 at the end of our tasting. I would so come back here again when visiting my friends.

Very friendly staff and lovely atmosphere.

Started out walking in, unsure of the venue, and walked out very happy with the service, selection off the menu and the establishment as a whole. Ordered two glasses - not a red fan, but the server helped pick one that would be easy and I ended up enjoying it.

So, first let me say that both times I have been there both ladies were very nice, very sweet...but...the consistency of service, and what was offered/available was not acceptable to me. On December 29th I had a glass of prosecco (very good) and ordered some of their bread and olive oil, a big serving of bread fthey get rom Cafe Fiore next door (the woman said). The next day I went back with my husband to get a glass of prosecco again and as she poured it she said "Oh we are out"...and poured us each a half glass. I'm sorry, the day before new year's ever you run out of prosecco? How about offering to open another bottle. Then I ordered the 2 cheese plate. 12 dollars for two  cheeses, olive oil,  bread and apples. She told me "we ran out of bread so are crackers okay? Well, yes, but can't you run next door and get some more bread? Instead we received 5 water crackers, 5 slices of apple and some cheese...for 12 dollars? Then were charged for one and a half glasses of prosecco. Really? Maybe you should charge me for one glass. I also heard her tell someone that they don't do bottle service, however, the night before I watched a different woman bring out a bottle of wine and pour it for the guests. So, horrible value and I won't go back but I wish them the best in their business.

Interesting place - I wanted a bottle of Sangiovese which they didn't have, so I bought a bottle of organic Syrah which was so-so for $21.45 a bottle.  Very pricey.  But I will be back for the wine tasting which the helpful servant said was $10 for 3/3 white/red tastings. The ambience is very nice though inside, looks like a romantic place for couples to relax.

We went during the rain storm before the comedy club.  The same guy owns both.  The wine selection is very extensive but the tapas is limited.  It was a quiet night because of the rain so we were the only party there.  The waitress was really nice letting us try about 6 different types of wine before we were able to decide on two of them.  We were hoping to make a light meal out of it but it didn't work out.  But I think it would've been a cool place to hangout just to wine and snacks with friends.

A big thumbs up for allowing dogs! Ventura in general seems more dog-friendly than LA. We've gone twice, and have ended up buying a riesling both times (different ones). The wines are interesting and seem to circulate pretty regularly. Tastings can be a bit pricey, though. Last time we went, the server was very nice even when our hyper doggie dummy knocked over the stacked crate table.

Wine bars are always a favorite of mine, and to have one right on California Street is simply perfect.  I explored The Wine Rack after noticing that I had a two for one tasting thanks to my Ventura Axxess card.  Why would I pass that up?!

I found the ambiance to be casual, and not intimidating or pretentious, as some wine bars can be.  There is plenty of cute merchandise to catch your eye while sipping on a glass of vino, or if you just need to stretch your legs while perusing the retail section.

If you snag a window seat, you can enjoy the passerby (and if you have read any of my other reviews, you know how I love a good window seat for people watching) as they mill about the downtown area.

I look forward to a return visit to The Wine Rack, as well as checking out the live music there.

I love The Wine Rack! It's the perfect place for date night or a night out with the girls.  I love that the girls who work here are so down-to-earth. You don't need to be a wine aficionado because they'll guide you to your favorite wine.  Also, the seating is plentiful and the ambiance is very relaxing. Another bonus is the fact they usually have live music each week and it's located within walking distance of the movie theater.

This is a very cozy wine bar with lots of charm, and beautifully decorated.  It is a very comfortable stop after a day of shopping and walking around Ventura. You have the option of a very nice wine tasting (whatever they have open), or if you want a glass of something, they will make a suggestion and let you taste it first.  The staff is very down to earth and friendly. They also have cheese/snack plates for purchase. I believe it may also be a dog friendly venue, so that is worth checking into. Very relaxing stop - I've been here twice.

This cool and hip wine linge/tasting room is a favorite of my girlfriend and I. For being located in downtown Ventura, the interior reall has an authentic, relaxed vineyard tasting room feel to it. There are high tables, couches, bar seating, and even a little private nook room.

The staff is always friendly and has a good knowledge for wines. Just describe the type of taste you're looking for and they are always spot-on in recommending a wine. They also have cheese plates to pair with your wine.

We like to come for the $10 wine tasting, which is split between whites and red, and then for a little more $$ you can get a tasing of all reds. I have never been there when they host live music, but I know they do. I feel like it is on weekend evenings, but don't take my word for it.

Can't wait for our next visit!

My boyfriend and I stopped here before dinner on Friday to redeem a Living Social coupon I had purchased earlier that week.

I had visited The Wine Rack once before and had a very "meh" overall feeling about the place, but the coupon was less than $20 for 2 tastings, so I figured "what the heck? I'll give this place another chance".

The coupon was for 2 tastings, "tapas" (which consisted of a handful of stale bread chunks, a thimble full of tapenade and a weak slice of manchego) and apparently a 20% coupon for any of the items in the shop. Not really a fan of the tacky, oversized painted wine glasses that say "diva" or "best mom ever" though...
Our visit started with us selecting a pair of stools at the bar, which we were immediately asked to relocate by the brunette woman who owns the place (apparently the seats we had chosen threw off the perfect symmetry of the bar).
We chose different seats and I presented my Living Social coupon, which must have made the owner even MORE irritated with us than she was already. She waved me off and didn't even let me finish my sentence. So I just kind of laid it awkwardly at the bar and waited for our tastings.

The woman poured each of our wines (about 8-10 minutes between each pour), gave us an undescriptive summary of each and continued to ignore us between tastings. I guess she was a little too busy gabbing (obnoxiously) on the phone with an acquaintance of hers to really dote on us.
By the 4th pour I was ready to grab my things and leave, but we were both anxious to try to pinot noir, so we bit our tongues.
After we finished our tastings (literally throwing back the last one), we proceeded to grab our things and leave without tipping (umm obviously) to which the woman said "you guys all set?"
Yup - and we will never, ever be visiting this place EVER again!

Considering the mistreatment, mediocre wine and sorry excuse for "tapas", which may as well have been mouse bait, needless to say we won't be recommending this place to anyone. Isn't the point of those coupons to bring in MORE business instead of treating your patrons like shit?

We continued on to Paradise Pantry (1 block away on Main St) where we had a lovely evening of delightful wines, cheeses, olives, meats and fruits, as per usual.  The Pantry truly is a wine and cheese paradise, ESPECIALLY in comparison to a hole like, The Wine Rack.

I hope this place goes out of business.

I'm usually in here during the summer time when I'm showing Cali friends wonderful Ventura. They have excellent wine pourings and great things to eat that pair nicely with each tasting.

I was here last during the last Ventura Wine weekend/festival. The door lady was super helpful because we were not part of the festival crew and yet I wanted my guests to have a chance to visit The Wine Rack. Luckily we were ushered in ahead of the festival crowd since we were ordering food, etc. and weren't solely tasting. Unfortunately, the tastings weren't great pours - I know part of this was probably due to the huge mobs that were flowing through as part of the wine fest. It was still a pleasant setting, though much noisier than normal, which for my group never poses as a problem. The noisy atmosphere made it easy to meet new people that evening.

This place is great. Nice people, good wine, a relaxed atmosphere...and dog-friendly?? It has gone through some makeovers and had some growing pains, but it is shaping into a fine downtown staple.

Nice little spot to do a wine tasting.  Lots of cutesy seats.  None of the wines on the tasting were really to my ... taste.  I did enjoy a nice glass of peppery shiraz after, though.

Came here with the lady to enjoy some wine for a bit before we hit up the beach. It's a  quaint little place to take your significant other if you want to spend some quiet time together.

Plus this is really cool place to buy a bottle wine to enjoy for yourself or for a gift. The wine tasting is about $10 per person which isn't too bad and you can also try out other their special's are which are posted on the board. But don't get too carried away cuz you can easily spend the whole day here drinking wine. It's pretty good.

Over all this is a warm place to go if you don't want to drive up very far but want to stay very close to the beach along with the action on Main street.

Sooo frickin' adorable!!  Stopped by with some friends for a quick glass and ended up staying over an hour.  Great wine flight, little trivia cards at the sunny comfy couch table and really cute little gifts.  The pourer was super nice and friendly!-- very attentive and even brought out a reserve zin to try that wasn't on the flight.  We promptly bought a glass!!
Love this little gem in a cute part of Ventura!  But shhhh! Don't tell anyone!  I want to keep it all to myself!!  Hehe!

While staying in Oxnard for a wedding last month, I had a day to myself and decided to go for a drive and check things out. I made an outstanding decision in stopping here. I like wine. I fall somewhere in the casual drinker end of the spectrum, but I'm developing my tastes and I enjoy the experience a lot. The owner and her mother were there and they couldn't have been nicer. I enjoyed my flight (I don't remember which) and bought a bottle for dinner at the bride's house that evening, as well as a shirt with "Wine Rack" emblazoned on the chest. The shop/lounge itself is cozy and filled with sunlight, and I could have stayed there for hours.

The perfect ambience meant to savor glasses of wine! DH and I frequent this place when out on Main st. in the evenings. The Ladies that work here are always friendly and attentive. The wines they pour are around $10 a glass, their specials are listed on the chalkboard. They have flavorful cheese plates as well. Overall, it is a fabulous Wine Bar!!!

    very cool place!
my love and I stopped in for date night on a wednseday.

we sat at the bar and were greeted by Britten who was incredibly sweet and helpful! She explained the specials and we got the first timers flight tasting (not sure exactly what it was called something to do with "flight") it was $10 a person and it was a good $10 spent! it included a tasting of a few whites and a few reds. My love isn't really educated on wine so he enjoyed tasting the difference between the different types.

We also ordered a small cheese/fruit/ chocolate plate, perfect with our wine!

I saw a group of girls there having a girls night and thought YES this IS the perfect spot for girls night!

a bonus for you doggy lovers!
they allow you to bring in your friendly well behaved doggies! ( they didn't say friendly well behaved, but I assume for such a cute place with nice ambiance that friendly and behaved would be a must)

it's also a shop so you could buy anything wine realted!

we'll be stopping in more often!

Hmmm, let me think about this for a second...

    Wine
    +
    Racks

Yeah, you have pretty much just defined the epitome of a win-win! :) What a little gem this place is! After strolling around Ventura on a perfectly lazy Saturday afternoon, we decided to pop in here for a little vino. We were immediately greeted by a friendly group of gals and it felt like home the minute our booties hit our seats at the wine bar.

From there we were taken on a fun little journey through whites, reds, more whites and umm, a few more whites. Deelish! We rapped with them at the bar and I loved this place so much I even bought a t-shirt that appropriately says WINE RACK. C'mon... I had to!!

Definitely a place to put on your radar if you are anywhere near the area. You won't feel rushed, you'll have a great time and if you want to do a little shopping while you are there, they have an awesome assortment of trinkets, oils and WINE RACK t-shirts to boot! Did I mention the WINE RACK t-shirt?

    Win-Wine!

This is what a local wine shop should be.  The place is clean, spacious, and well laid out for an evening of wine tasting or drinking.

Why did I love this place so much:
    1) The wait staff were nice and attentive.
    2) No wine snobs telling me what, where, and how to enjoy their wine and why I was wrong that I didn't like it.
    3) Laid back, take your time and enjoy yourself atmosphere.
    4) Reasonably priced. (Always a Plus)

The experience overall was quite good and I would totally go there again.  The menu is limited to only a few small delicious options, so if you're hungry you might what hit this place up after dinner or just before.

It's not so much the wines that I was impressed with it was the vibe of the place.

The ladies there were absolutely wonderful.  Very welcoming.  The vibe in the place was so kick back and everyone was friendly.  We were all talking to each other which in this area is hard to come by.

We did the tasting and the wines were ok....nothing that I absolutely had to have but that's how it usually is with wines anyway when you taste.  Their own in house sparkling wine is sweet but it will be really good for Mimosa's.

We had the cheese plate.  The Guiness cheese was really good.  Not what I expected at all.

I am too glad that they scaled down the gift items and put a few more places to sit.  It's always fun to go and see what little trinkets they have but it's also really nice to sit and enjoy an afternoon with a glass of wine. The window seat is particularly nice.

This place is not called Weaver Wines anymore, It's the Wine Rack. The ladies there make the name appropriate. Sit at the bar, have some wine, go through the ever-present deck of trivia cards. comfortable atmosphere, better now that they got rid of a lot of the stuff for sale and put in more places to sit. They let you taste a little wine before you commit to a glass. Ask for the self-aerating glasses - they're pretty cool and make the wine taste better than regular glasses (I don't know why, it just does).

It's so nice to go to a wine bar/shop where you aren't treated like a moron for not knowing what a carmenere is. The staff is very friendly and happy to teach you what you need to know and help you pick out the perfect glass to enjoy at the beautiful bar or the perfect bottle to take to-go.

By the way, they have changed their name to THE WINE RACK. It's the same owner and as fabulous as ever.

Also, one yelper said they gave him a 3 ounce glass of wine for $10. No. They serve 6 ounce glasses of wine. (Ranging from $8 to $14 usually). It just comes in a big glass, so maybe it doesn't look like a lot.

This is a good place for a glass of wine or two, or a tasting.

Be sure to bring lots of money as this place is too expensive. A huge glass with only 3 oz of wine in it will cost you $10 (excluding the tip). Some of the wines are from small wineries, and are not so hot (young or too earthy). So choose carefully.

    The atmosphere is nice.

I tend to go to one of the other four wine bars in Ventura (for example Wine Lovers on Thompson Road), where the prices are less.

We've been to this shop several times in the past year + and have always enjoyed the visits. In fact, I think it'd be safe to say that I left "happy" each time.*

This visit coincided with our so-called Ventura shopping day, so I continued doing what I planned on doing all along.**

Good reasons for visiting Weaver Wines:

    - Good wine pours
    - Good wine & food prices
    - Good gift inventory
    - Good conversation with other (wine) drinkers
    - Good staff

Besides wine & wine-friendly foods, this store offers all sorts of wine-related gifts for sale. We have a sizable collection of wine corks from this comfortable, inviting store.

On a weekend trip to Ventura, we found this wine shop in downtown.  The staff were very friendly.  I think they specialize in organic wines.  I think that's all I tasted when we went.

The wine tastings were reasonable.  You can get 3 white/3 red tastes or 6 white tastes for $10.  Or 6 red tastes for $15.  They also have some food available.  A 4 cheese plate was $18 or a 2 cheese plate was $14.  They come with fruit  and chocolate.  The cheeses were very tasty and accompanied the wines wonderfully.

I love Weaver!  Why?  OK, first of all, yummy wines.  Cool selection.  Nice, friendly staff.  Laid-back clientele.  But the best part?

I can bring my dogs.  Yup, you read it here.  Weaver is insanely dog friendly and I've never been in without sharing the space with at least one other adorable pooch.  How can you not love this place?

    Weaver Wine Bar is fantastic!
Its a great place to taste wines from the central coast to spain and beyond, talk to locals and visitors and purchase wines youve probably never heard of.
Price per flight is $10, but I think they will waive that charge if you have a glass. I know I never paid the $10, but then again I had a couple glasses. Ive been fortunate enough to meet some very nice people there and the women that run the place are especially friendly and knowledgable.
Its right off the downtown strip, easy parking and theres other places for drinks and dinner that are very close.
I purchased a 2003 Dogwood Cellars Cab that was very tasty.
Seems different wines a highlighted every week and they dont know what they will be serving. So its a shot in the dark, but Ive never been disappointed.

This is a great place to start or end an evening out in Ventura. The wines are dependably excellent, and the women who work there really know their stuff. Be prepared to spend a little -- every time I've ordered a flight, I end up buying at least one of the wines. This is the first place to turn me on to Rombauer Chardonnay, and I am forever grateful.

Taste.  Lounge.  Shop.  What else could you ask for?  We stopped in here just to look at the eccentric items in the shop, but we just couldn't resist tasting the wine.  We got 6 tastes of wine for $10/person.  we tasted 2 whites, 1 rose and 3 reds.  They were very nice wine.  They ranged from about $15/bottle to $60/bottle.  I bought a nice Portuguese wine after the tasting was done.  They did have some local wines that you could taste and you can also buy wine by the glass.

I saw a sign that was posted about an upcoming event that was a girl's night out kind of thing.  It advertised wine tasting, giggling, massages and it suggested you bring a game to play.   It sounded so fun!!  Too bad I don't live in the area.

This was a really neat little place to stop by, so check it out when you're in the area.
