I have mixed feelings about this place. Â I stopped in the first time a few weeks ago to try out the shakes, which everybody was raving about. Â
First up, the flavor of the month, Strawberry & Banana shake... Â the shake was very good, you could taste the fresh banana and chunks of strawberry. Â The flavors of both came thru nicely and were mixed into the creamy ice cream, to form a perfectly textured shake.
Second visit.. Â I ordered the Pina Colada shake for the wifey.. Â now i was expecting a delicious shake along the lines of a virgin pina colada. Â Sadly, what i received was not what i expected. Â The girl who prepared my shake must have added the wrong combo of ingredients, is what I immediately thought when i tasted the shake. Â It tasted like a plain vanilla shake!! Â I immediately returned to the counter and advised the girl of the mistake I believed took place, but low and behold, the male working the counter said that she used the proper ingredient mix, but was polite and suggested they try again and add some more flavor.. Â well lucky me I thought.. Â we are going to get that delicous pina colada shake afterall... Â
I gotta say that the second time around was a tad better, but i cant say the same for my wife. She was sooo disappointed that the shake was still not flavorful enough. Â I agreed with her opinion, but still was not ready to write this place off based on one subpar performance. Â I do want to thank the staff for trying.. Â they were very nice and understanding.
I will be back to try some more shakes.. gosh with over 60 shakes, there has to be some more gems to be had. Â I also am itching to try their bison dogs, elk, turkey and buffalo burgers..
The food here was pretty mediocre, just another burger joint when it comes to that if you ask me. I suppose there is some draw if you're looking for wild game (elk, ostrich, buffalo).
But my main reason to give this place a whirl was the very long list of milkshakes. And Wojo's successfully delivered all my hopes and dreams with the White Chocolate Oreo shake. I need to come back to happily make my way through the entire list.
I'd give this place 5 stars if there weren't an annoying abundance of teeny boppers in Letterman's jackets crowding this place to death. Awsome food, great shakes...even some flavor combos that...well just shouldn't be flavor combos. Been coming here for years, always had great service...expect to wait at least 10 min for your food..its a good thing, because they make your food fresh. Keep it up!
Review Source:Not my top choice for burgers and stuff on the south side but it will do in a pinch. Â Quality burgers (buffalo, elk, etc) and a good pizza puff. Â My daughter doesn't like the chicken nuggets here (always a good test) but generally the food is good. Â The shakes are the reason to come here. Â Good ice cream and lots of flavor choices. Â Lots. Â Everything you can imagine. Â We'll come here once in a while for a change of pace but I wouldn't call it a favorite place.
Review Source:You know - it's a really, really good thing that I chose to spend the majority of my money on other (ahem) addictions in high school because if I hadn't, I would've ended up as the half ton teen on that TLC show. All because of this place. Well, this and Burger King.
My bestie used to give me rides to and from my public school since it was on the way to her catholic school, which happened to be directly across the street from Wojo's. If I could've afforded the grub on a daily basis, trust that I would be a heifer today. My favorite burger is the nacho cheese, pepper, and bacon jumbo burger with an order of garlic butter fries. Wash it all down with one of their signature shakes and you're in artery hardening heaven!
The shakes? Oh man, the list is endless. I'm a fan of almost anything with 'fluff' in it, as well as the Elvis, and the rum eggnog - just so christmasy!
The only drawback is if you come here around 3:00 on a weekday, you'll be bombarded by teenagers, bleh. Even still, totally worth the frustration. So go ahead, venture on out to the south burbs and have yourself a $15 lunch. And remember to bring me back some grub. I will gladly pay you on tuesday for a hamburger today :p
The bannana split milkshake is the best shake ever! It has real chunks of bannana and strawberry and is nice and thin. The burgers are very good, nice and greasy and cooked right when you order. They do take a while but everything is made to order and they do hustle. The only problem i realy have is they have teenage workers with no real supervision and no training in sanitation. The last time i went i was appaled to see the cook trow raw hamburgers on the grill and then put my lettuce and tomato on my meal without ever even wiping her hands (let alone WASHING them). The girl that was doing the frys kept wiping the sweat of her head and then using that hand to help make [people's sandwiches. Overall a five star dive that loses a point because they may kill me one day.
Review Source:A client of mine took me out to lunch here after a showing. She swears by it, and I can understand why. Tons of burgers, great waffle fries, and more milkshake flavors than you could invent in a week-long acid binge.
Prices are good. I suspect because of the customization of the menu it might take awhile to get your food if they're busy.
We stopped here when looking for some food before attending a lecture at St. Xavier. Wojo's in one of those great old fast food "hole in the walls" that you just want to hang out in. The burgers, fries and shake were very good. Next time I'm on the south side, I'll make my way back to Wojo's.
Review Source:I organized a boycott of this place when I was in sixth grade and have stood steadfast in my hatred as others have fallen by the wayside. Â
Remember the woman with the wooden tooth and the horribly mean guy with the mustache who used to work there? Â Thank them for it. Â Way to literally scream at a 12 year old for complaining about a burnt to a crisp cheeseburger. Â
I'm not bitter (even though it seems that way), but the story still stands. Â Fuck Wojo's.
Also, I'm most likely still on the wall with the pictures of little leaguers. Â Go EPBC Broncos and Red Sox! Â YEAH!
Despite an odd vibe of curt people and the creepy, grayish clowns hanging down from the ceiling (?), a menu with almost 100 different milkshake possibilities is a damn strong draw.
Rum? Grasshopper? Marshmallow fluff and peanut butter? White chocolate? On and on and on. Â Their shakes are not to be doubted. Â And they have almost 30 different types of burgers, with many more combos you can create on your own. Â Garlic fries are great and, surprisingly, I liked the cheese sauce a lot, something I usually hate. Prices, as noted, can be a bit pricey (Two fries and two shakes - $14) for what it is AND it's cash only.
I'll definitely go back, but I'm getting mine to go - Â All those pictures of kids are kind of creepy, too, like a million eyes are watching me and I can not stand clowns.
I don't know what day the other people on this site went to Wojo's but I went this past weekend and it was not all that good as expected based on the other reviews. I've had better burgers, the milkshakes were really milky (personal opinion) and the waffle fries were hard! Also, I got some cheese for my fries and it was very buttery (yuck!) I believe they are over rated, their prices are extremely high for what you get as well. Portilios burgers are Waaayy better they got Wojo's FADED!
Review Source:I go here every time I visit my friends who live in Oak Lawn. Â This place is great because (a) it reminds me of places we used to eat on the way home from the beach in Southern California when I was a kid, (b) it reminds me of places teenagers used to hang out in in the early 1980s, (c) it's got pictures of Little League teams whose members are probably in their thirties now, and (d) the shakes are really good.
They even have decent veggie burgers, and I like the criss-cut fries.
It's been thirty minutes and I still taste the gloriousness of the perfect elk burger I just scarfed down. Perfect? Well, I have never had an elk burger to begin with, so this one wins be default.
Tender meat with a perfect pairing of peppered onions (ask for em) and a dabble of nacho cheese (again, ask). It's an orgasm in the mouth...actually....
The prices are steep, then again, where else can you get an elk burger, or an ostrich burger on the southwest side. Â
As mentioned previously, there are over sixty...SIXTY...variations of their milkshakes. From an Amaretto to a Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake, or you can even ask for a customized milkshake, this place is undisputed Milkshake King.
Fuck. Are. They. Great.
Essentially this is seen as a greasy spoon but with my four times going, my burgers were excellent with NO grease droppings. None. using one napkin just to wipe the mouth is great.
The decor of this place is homely with pictures of their sponsored baseball teams from 95 to now.
Come around 3pm-5pm you'll get Brother Rice and Mother McCauley teenagers in here.
Any place that serves Seasoned waffle fries and 70 varieties of kick- ass shakes is awesome in my book.
The prices are a bit steep, but in my opinion, didn't matter when i tasted how awesome the food was. Â Every thing that is ordered is cooked fresh, and it makes a big difference. Â
I highly recommend the white chocolate strawberry shake.
If you really enjoy milkshakes, then you probably know already know of the legendary Wojo's.
This burger joint/greasy spoon on the southside serves over 60 flavors of shakes and malts---all of them awesome! Actually, I don't really know if they're ALL that great because I haven't tasted the 65+ flavors, but the few I've tried have really kicked it!
They're kind of expensive (around $3.25), but they're HUGE and worth the investment for a taste of  any of the crazy flavors like watermelon, grasshopper, banana moon pie, raspberry fluff, chocolate peanut butter fluff, chocolate coconut, rum eggnog, turtle, the "Elvis Shake", and artesian...I have no idea what the f  that one is, but I'm sure it's rad.
Wojo's food isn't half bad either. With a burger menu as large as their milkshake menu, you can be sure you'll find something to satisfy your craving. They pride themselves on buffalo, ostrich, and elk burgers. They're pretty good, but I'd stick to the regular burgers that are tender and greasy and taste like any awesome burger joint's burgers should taste.
The only downside is that everything on the menu is kind of a la carte, except for a few select "combos". So if you're looking to buy a shake, burger, and fries, be prepared to spend anywhere from $8+.
Someday I'll make it my passion to sample every milkshake flavor at Wojo's....and when I do, I'll be back up here with the verdict.
