We ate here after hiking the Forsythe Canyon trail to Gross Reservoir (highly recommended!). We loved it. We sat outside on a breezy June day. The food was surprisingly good (we ordered some of their Mexican entrees). Its definitely got that unique hole-in-the-wall thing going on. The building itself has a European ski chalet feel. It's older and quirky. It wasn't super cheap but not too expensive (entrees were mostly under $15).

The service wasn't fast but I was in no hurry. I loved it.

if you like slow service, poor customer service, high prices and mediocre food this is your place. We sat down about 1:30ish on a Sunday afternoon. It didn't seem too busy. We ordered and I think it took at least a 35 to 40 min to get our food. They kept apologizing that it was taking so ling and explained the had a 10 top table. O.k. I might understand the slowness if the restaurant was busy but that wasn't the case and then at least offer the couple of tables that are waiting some chips and salsa for free. I guess they rely on the tourist and not the locals to keep them in business because I certainly would not be bothered going back.

The chicken meat in my burrito was very dry.  It seemed it had been shredded, frozen, and over microwaved.  No going back..

This time of the year, unless it 's one of those brilliant sun splashed, blue skied January days, I wouldn't recommend taking the gorgeous drive up coal creek to sit on the patio and enjoy the charming oversized deck.

Sitting outside bundled up like Randy from "A Christmas Story," and wearing mittens, is just plain miserable. Besides, unless you're a tourist, that look is reserved for ski lodges and snowmobile trails.

But, I'm planting a seed to all your convertible connoisseur's and motorcycle enthusiasts, nothing beats the ride, the sun soaked deck and the friendly staff here at the Wondervu Cafe.

They specialize in Mexican food, but the breakfast is worth the early morning jaunt.  And personally, I love the buffalo burger and their green chile.

Honestly, this place is all about the ride, whether you're coming from Denver or flowing down from the peak to peak highway, enjoyinging the twisty turns and breathtaking views. I recommend, if you come up one way, go out the other way...the ride becomes completely different. It's just so nice to find this gem, take off the gear, enjoy a great meal, wonderful people watching and a cold beverage on those lazy days you're looking for something different to do.

Oh my gosh, this place was so bad, it was comical. I don't even know where to start... Our chips and salsa-which they charge $3 for- made it to our table about one minute before our food (we actually asked for them 3 times). Mmm, they were just what was needed to cut through the unadulterated glass of cheap sour mix, which they call a margarita. We all ordered shredded beef burritos in various ways- Chili inside, chili out side, cheese, no cheese, etc.- they all came out wrong and the same. The meat inside was almost powdered it was soooooo dry and overly salted. It was like potted meat or that beef jerky you get in those little tins, which look like chew It is tremendously over priced, and most of the tables do not have a view of the Mtn. pass, which IS the WunderVU. This goes well beyond the whitest Mexican food I have ever had. Margarita=0 points, Burrito=0 points, Charging that much for chips and salsa=0 points, waitress forgetting everything=0 points, kitchen botching all 3 people's orders=0 points.... I think you see where I am going with this........ on the up side, the whole thing was SOOO bad, that we all had a good gut laugh at their behalf, so that was good!

Great food, service is a little slow, but the prices are what's going to keep us away. Too bad they raised prices so high, great place to go hang out...

The service was horrible and the food was subpar for what was paid.  I would never return there.  The green chili tasted very bland and like it was out of a jar.  The wait staff was unfriendly and we had to wait for our food for 1.5 hours, we never got an update or an apology.  We finally got our food when we said we were going to leave.  I do not recommend this place at all.

The Eggs Benedict are some of the best I have ever had!  The hollandaise sauce is phenomenal.  We were there on a Friday morning, but I asked if we could get it (it is usually served only on weekends) and they were happy to do it.  That alone made the drive worthwhile.....

The service is spotty, yes, even though we were the only ones there.  The green chile was just so-so, but I do live spicy and it was less than I what I prefer.  The rest of the breakfast was pretty good as well.

I have been here for dinner as well and I did enjoy the mexican food.  Not the best I have had, but I thought it was pretty good, and you cannot beat the drive up!

All in all, it is a great little spot to eat.  I doubt I would drive there just to eat, but it is a great stop on a drive or on the way to Central City/Blackhawk.

The food is really bland, and the price is just insane.  It's $10 for chips and guacamole.  That should give you an idea of what I'm talking about.  The service is really bad.  We had to flag someone down to be seated even though the place wasn't busy at all.  The bathroom was small and nasty.  Do yourself a favor and skip this place.

Yummy, spicy chorizo! Lots of outdoor seating. Friendly waitstaff. I also had an iced latte, which was delicious.

I read several complaints in previous reviews regarding service being slow and unfriendly. I didn't experience anything like that. We also went at 9am and there were only a handful of tables that were occupied.

Service is slow and not very friendly. The prices seemed high for a restaurant of this caliber. However, the fajitas are big enough to share.

I've eaten here my entire life!!! This is one of the best Mexican food restaurants in Colorado!!! It's not just the food that is amazing, but the view which will blow your mind away!!! When you visit make sure you eat some of their incredible chili-con-queso  and after dinner dig into there to-die-for hot fudge sundaes!!!!

This place is pretty good but really out of the way and a little pricey in my opinion. I went for lunch and had a veggie burrito. They have a vegetarian version of green chile and it was good but could have been spicier in my opinion. It was plenty of food and the salsa was pretty tasty as was the guacamole. The place is cute and homey and they also sell candy in the front. It would definitely be a good place to stop if you were in the neighborhood for some reason but I'm not sure it's worth the drive from Boulder.

After hiking on the Continental Divide this weekend, we popped into Wondervu for green chili and margs-tasty as usual, but noticed the place is up for sale after nearly 40 years in business. Service has slowed to a near crawl, and the place was not crowded at 5PM on a sunny day for the fun deck.
We also observed the new menu prices-high or higher than many good Denver mexican places to dine, the locals probably cannot afford this historical place anymore.

We arrived at 11am and were told we could only order off the breakfast menu.  After a bit of banter they finally agreed to let us order off the lunch menu as long as nothing had to be grilled.  (No burgers, etc)  wtf?

We also had very slow unrepentant service.  Meh.

Good food with bad service. There are few places to eat in Wondervu and even fewer customers to attract. You would expect service at this out of the way cafe to be at least average. If you don't mind waiting a long time for your food, rude wait staff that ignore you. This is the place for you. They do accept credit cards, but discourage it. If you have a large party, they will serve the smaller local parties before they get to you.

There's nothing like taking the beautiful drive up Highway 72 in the heat of summer to step out in the cool mountain air of minuscule Wondervu, Colorado. Wondervu basically consists of a gift shop, a bus stop, and the Wondervu Cafe - which serves the best Mexican food in the front range. No contest!.

Everything is made FRESH in house. And you can really tell! The chips are hot and crispy, and the salsa is tangy and juicy. Family favorites are the #9 (guac tostada plate: mounds of chunky, fresh guac, covered in heaps of cheese and tomatoes), beef and bean burrito a la carte (BIGGEST burrito you'll ever come across), the fresh and zesty chile rellenos, and once in awhile, we'll treat ourselves to the delicious, enormous chimichanga.

If you manage to save room, it'll be hard, definitely order yourself the Mexican creampuff. But only one. Like most everything on the menu this puppy is HUGE! It will easily serve 4. But what is it?! One giant sopapilla stuffed with what must be a pint of vanilla ice cream, covered in whipped cream, cinnamon sugar and honey. This is one serious dessert.

Last but not least, the margs are killer good. Order them by the liter, relax on the porch and see if you can't spot a bear in the woods (really).
