Yamato Steak House of Japan

This is the only option in Shelbyville for Sushi lovers other than the Kroger deli, fortunately it is a GREAT option. Their prices are very reasonable and their sushi is pretty good. I have had better in Lexington at School and in Louisville, but for a small town I was very impressed by their quality. It is unlikely they will stay open long unless they can get more customers. Unfortunately they just don't have the customer demographic here to support a sushi restaurant. I hope they do last tho, as they are well worth a visit.

Edit:  I ordered takeout from them last year for my daughter's 11th birthday, they seemed so genuinely surprised and excited that an 11 ur old American girl's favorite food is Sushi that they sent her an extra special sushi roll for free. I had also asked if I could purchase some of the caviar that they use for garnish as my daughter LOVES caviar and they gave me not one, but 2 containers of 2 varieties of it. I am sometimes very critical of resataurants and forget sometimes to give credit where it is due. The folks at Yamato are awesome!

I have friends who live in Shelbyville and we were in Town visiting this weekend so we thought we'd give it a try.  We were glad we stopped in!  Service was good and food was even better!  We all tried a Terriiaki type dish.  It was a great flavor and large portion!  The prices are reasonable at this Japanese steakhouse.  They don't cook the food in front of you with the the flare though.  I'm fine with that if it keeps the price down.  We've ate at several places in Shelbyville and this is def. one of the best spots for dinner!
