We were looking for a place to eat after an afternoon at the excellent Homosassa Springs park.  There are 3 restaurants at the Riverside Resorts in Homosassa - we were drawn by the reviews of 'The Monkey Bar' with the view of Monkey Island - but all 3 restaurants are contiguous and have the same menu. The Monkey Bar actually has the worst view of the island.  We ate at the indoor restaurant upstairs (the Yardarm Lounge) because the band at the Monkey Bar was a bit loud and we were told there would be families/kids at the downstairs restaurant (Riverside Crab House.  We had the 12 blue crab dinner for 29.50.  You had the option of 6 garlic and 6 steamed, we ordered 12 garlic.  For 2 people that was a LOT of crab (they are smaller than Maryland crabs but not small by any means)- but you eat slowly so we never felt extremely full.  Came with only 4 hush puppies - a shame, because they were the best hush puppies I have ever eaten.  Crabs were great, they're sautéed in garlic so you really don't even need to dip them in the butter they provide.  We did start with the crab stuffed bacon wrapped shrimp skewers, also great.  Service was a tad slow - she forgot to bring the drink I ordered but made up for it by bringing us one on the house.  Key lime pie for desert was tasty - I believe the crust was graham and nut, it had more to it than just a graham cracker crust. ).  Watching the monkeys was fun (5 of them play on an island in the middle of the river) - but even without that draw we'd come back.
Review Source:The Yardarm is located on the Homosassa River and is actually attached at the hip by the Monkey Bar, which is the outdoor patio section. Â The Yardarm itself is enclosed (helpful when the noseeums come out to prey, I mean, play) and also boasts Buzztime Trivia besides a full menu and full bar. Â Perfect place to watch the sunset while chilling in old Florida.
