Best and friendliest service I can remember. Â We were a party of 8 and there was not a minute that anyone wanted for anything. Â Bread and olive oil with herbs were simply dangerously delicious. Â The gorgonzola salad was practically a mini-meal - unusual and excellent. Â The Lazy Man's Lobster was a treat and the prime rib spectacular. Â Chocolate cake was yummy and even the cheesecake was really delicious. Â It's not gourmet/fancy but very high quality comfort/Cape cuisine. Â
What really stood out was our waitress. Â Her service was friendly, patient, and helpful. Â Outstanding!
Yarmouth House has excellent food, great service that goes to great lengths to attend to your desires and a wonderful menu with an exceptional dessert cart for your perusal that they bring straight to the table.
The only problem I have ever had with the restaurant is that they pack too many people, too close together. Maybe not only slightly larger tables, but tables spaced further apart, would have been the only difference between me giving them an above average review and an excellent review.
Now for my take on the food:
The baked filet of scrod is cooked well and spiced right, the chicken parm very tasty and of good portion, the stuffing on the baked stuffed filet of scrod is delicious with a little lemon, the salads are always crisp and fresh, along with the bread, the wine selection is ample, the surf and turf, filet mignon is always cooked to perfection (I always order it rare or med-rare) the lobster plates are never scrimped on, the Oysters Rockerfeller are not watery, the brie is cooked from fresh, stuffed mushrooms taste like homemade, luncheon sandwiches are good quality, and the desserts are hard to pass up.
I have never had a bad meal here, in all my years of dining at this fine establishment.
Was Sunday evening, Memorial Day weekend. We were tired driving around, so we decide stop there for dinner. The parking was full, looks like local favorite but not ours. Nice atmosphere, big menu but over priced and not very friendly wait staff. It is so many places to eat in Cape Cod, so if you call yourself "fine dining" you must be much better. The food was kind of boring. Â Clam chowder was very average. Lobster Fritters was very deep fried and some kind of tough to chew. They were distasteful. Stuffed Haddock was good. Garlic mussels over pasta was less then average and when the waiter bring the dish, the sauce was spill all over plate (does not it look appetizing). It was a bad dinner. Do not choose a restaurant when you're tired.
Review Source:Hostess and servers were friendly. Food just okay...my husband had Cajun swordfish. It was cooked okay but only seasoned in one spot. The rest of his meal was pretty bland even though smothered with some yellow sauce. I had scallop carbanara with tortellini. It was okay...very saucy. The scallops did not taste fresh...if your thinking to order ask if fresh or frozen. Only thing that was half decent, was bread with house olive oil dip! This was not worth the $80 we paid!
Review Source:We've lived on the Cape and now visit often. Â We go to the Yarmouth House frequently. Â Typically the service is very good as is the food. Â Once we had a dish that was truly poor--a special no less.
We do not consider this fine dining but moderate and comfortable. It can be pricy but there is almost always something suitable for a moderate or even reasonable price on the extensive menu.
I took two French students to dine there and they loved the beef and thought the bread was the best they'd had during their 3 week stay with us.  We always buy YH's delicious olive oil which is about $7. a bottle and is delicious either to cook with or dip bread at home.  Especially if one goes there off season the crowd will be on the elderly side as so many retire to beautiful Cape Cod and many Cape Codders go to the YH regularly.  When guests visit, the YH is where we most often suggest dining together.
Best prime rib around. Tender & flavorful. My boyfriend served here for a little while and said they sit in the au ju sauce for days to soak in the flavor. YUM. It's so good, I never get anything else when I come here even though everything else looks so good. I always leave saying, "I HAVE to try something else next time but that prime rib is just too good."
My boyfriend usually gets the chicken parm which is alright, in my opinion but he seems to love it. The sauce is a little spicier than a mariana should be, almost has a mexican taste to it.. not great for an authentic italian like me. We have also gotten the Asian chicken appetizer which was good and different, but very spicy so buyer beware.
On our anniversary we got a HUGE "2 person" drink. We like to drink and we couldn't even finish this "2 person" drink. Again, buyer beware, 3 or 4 people could split this. Strong and tasty, fruity!!
Every time we have gone we have had outstanding service except for the last time. It was 5pm on a Thursday and we had the best seat in the house with the worst server. Not personable, didn't tell us the specials, didn't take off the $10 coupon we had that we gave him at the beginning of the meal, just not good all around. Still doesn't take away from the 5 star quality of this place because of 1 fluke during the off season (winter). However, as a "classy, upscale" restaurant, they pride themselves on good service. This guy has been there so long they will probably never get rid of him no matter how bad he was... But I don't think anything will keep us away from this place or thinking badly of it!!
After spending a few days on the Cape after our wedding, we (me, Hubs, and his parents) went to the Yarmouth House before we left to head back home. Â We showed up on a (holiday) Monday around 5 and had no problem getting a table. Â
And then we waited. Â For awhile. Â It wasn't until we asked another server to track down our server were we able to order drinks which took another 10 minutes. Â At any rate, it was a little bit of a rocky start, but our server was really nice and she was fast with everything else.
We started off with the calamari appetizer and the arancini small plate appetizer. Â Both of them came to our table in virtually no time. Â I was a little weary of "fast" calamari, but it was delicious and the arancini was delicious.
Hubs ordered the prime rib which was practically falling off the plate. Â I had the swordfish special of the day that was cooked to perfection, although smothered in butter. Â Overall, it was a good cut of fish and it was accompanied with asparagus and potatoes. Â Delish! Â My mother in law had an early bird special that came with dessert and we all split a chocolate cake a la mode. Â It completed the meal perfectly.
With all things considered, it was a good meal and a pleasant experience. Â Sure, it took a few extra minutes for our server to get to us, but she apologized and never left us waiting for anything. Â The restaurant certainly attracts an older crowd, but do not be fooled because there is certainly something for everyone. Â I definitely will return.
Went to dinner here on the first night of my vacation because it was close to my hotel and to be quite honest, it was the most disappointing meal I had while in Cape Cod. The waitress was nice, the bread with olive oil was nice and that is about it. I had duck because it was on the special menu, it was okay at best. Â Boyfriend had the chicken parm and I have had better from a pizzeria. Â Maybe we should've ordered seafood but I would save my money and not come back.
Review Source:We loved it. Â My boyfriend and I have been here twice while on vacation. Â I ordered the salmon once and a steak another time and loved both meals. Â My boyfriend's meals were great too he said. Â Service was awesome both times we went, each time we were seated in the room with the water wheel, which made me very happy. Â Only thing I don't like about this restaurant is when they give you your sour cream they put it on for you, then that's it, you would have to embarrassingly ask for more when you want more, so I can never really finish my baked potato here. Â This practice is a bit old fashioned. Â But the food here is great, service exceptional, and the price is fair.
Review Source:My wife, Sheila, & I dined at the Yarmouth House this evening and were
very pleased with the restaurant, our dinners, and the service. We were
a little anxious going there because of some of the reviews we had read. We arrived around 6:30 P.M. and pulled into the YH driveway to
find a large tour bus unloading it's last few passengers. We decided to
go inside any way and survey the scene. I'm glad we did! Not only did
we have a small wait (5 minutes!), we were fortunate enough to get a table in the water wheel room with it's excellent ambience and relaxing
atmosphere. Our waiter, Tim, came over shortly and took our drink order. Tim was very attentive and even checked with the kitchen to see
if I could get a Fra Diavolo sauce on my grilled shrimp - a version I had
seen on an older menu apparently. He was able to obtain the spicier
version of the dish for me. You really appreciate it when your waiter or
waitress goes out of their way to accommodate you. Our wines, a house
Pinot Grigio & a Malbec, were both excellent! We ordered the boneless
Buffalo wings with Gorgonzola cheese for an appetizer. They came with celery sticks & carrots and were excellent! The bread was very good with an herbed olive oil dip. The $3 side salads - we got the Caesar -
were pretty average, but they did have a very generous amount of
shredded Parmesan cheese. Sheila ordered the peppered pork chop
which was nice & spicy, and she loved it. She could only finish one of the chops, so we took the second one back to the Inn for lunch tomorrow. I found the grilled shrimp Diavolo over linguini excellent as well! Even the water, filtered tap, was delicious, and Tim was very attentive refilling our glasses! We finished up sharing a huge delicious Mud Pie dessert, which was more than enough for the two of us. A lot of reviewers complained about high prices. We thought the prices were commensurate with the quality and overall ambiance - linen tablecloths,
& napkins, for example. We're happy to recommend the Yarmouth House to anyone looking for an excellent dining experience!

We tried Yarmouth House on Memorial Day weekend after reading some good reviews. Â Unfortunately, we were very disappointed.
The restaurant itself is a tad outdated and quite large. Â We arrived at the restaurant around 6pm for an early dinner. Â There were only five other tables dining when we arrived, and everyone besides us was part of the "older than 75" crowd. Â
I ordered a black angus burger with blue cheese and caramelized onions ($10.95) and my friends ordered the chicken Parmesan ($13.95), lobster salad sandwich ($16.95), and gorgonzola salad ($10.95).
When the waiter brought me my hamburger, it was covered with American cheese (not blue cheese) and raw onions (instead of caramelized). Â I felt horrible, but I had to send my hamburger back since I absolutely hate American cheese. Â Ten minutes later when the waiter brought me another hamburger, I noticed that all the chef did was take the burger he had incorrectly prepared and covered it with blue cheese. Â I therefore had to send it back again explaining that I didn't want American cheese on the burger. Â The waiter rolled his eyes and told me I would have to wait another twenty minutes before getting a new burger. Â When he finally brought me the burger, it had the blue cheese but no onions. Â Oh, well. Â Maybe the chef can only handle one burger topping at a time.
The chicken Parmesan was also horrible. Â The outside of the chicken was very hot, but when you got to the middle, it was actually frozen. Â It was very disheartening to learn that our food was not freshly prepared but rather frozen and nuked to its "proper" temperature.
I do feel like this restaurant has potential.  The hostess was super friendly as well as some of the other wait staff we met.  I won't be returning however until Yarmouth House decides to hire a new chef  - one who has passion for his/her work and takes the time to make food fresh to order.
If I could give different stars for different parts of the dining experience, I would. I will rate them in order of experience.
Ambience: 5 stars - Festively decorated for Halloween, cozy, and the water wheel is pretty great.
Waitress: 5 stars - Very friendly, helpful, and attentive. She really knew the menu and was patient with us when we had trouble deciding what to order.
Dinner: 3 stars - I had the blackened salmon with cajun spices. It came with rice and sauteed spinach. There was nothing particularly memorable about the dish. The fish was fine. The spinach was sauteed... what else can you say about it? And I should have known better than to order something with rice from an American cuisine restaurant. It was a bit overcooked and had all these spices and flavorings that hadn't been described in the menu, which weren't bad or anything, they just didn't really go with the meal.
Dessert: 4 stars - We shared the pumpkin cheesecake. The texture and flavor were amazing! Just the thing for a fall treat.
Since the main meal is the reason I go out to eat, I have to give this place 3 stars despite all the other things I liked about it, because I was just disappointed in the food.
I would rate this restaurant mediocre, which is disappointing considering the prices. Â The calamari appetizer we had was excellent, however the seafood special we had was overcooked, and the cowboy steak was completely overpowered by the gloppy bourbon sauce it was swimming in. Â Excellent martini and other mixed drinks we had also.
Review Source:It's not as bad as "meh" but it should've been better. Â The mussels Isabella were quite good and the corn chowder special was tasty (mmmm bacon). Â But the twin lobsters my wife and I ordered were over cooked. For a chef's special that's pretty careless.
It was a little on the pricey side considering the family-style atmosphere.
I was extremely disappointed with the Yarmouth House. We recently went there on a Sunday night. It was steady. We were seated very quickly by the hostess & our waiter arrived shortly after. Our waiter was ok, but not much of a personality. Our food arrived very fast. I got the chicken marsala, my boyfriend got the trio of lobster, prime rib & pork chop. Let me just say the entrees were not very good. Chicken was gristly, & his so called prime rib didn't look like prime rib & was tough. I had heard such good things about the Yarmouth House, sadly my experience didn't measure up. The food was seriously overpriced for the quality of it. i don't mind paying $$$$ for a real good meal, but this was not a very good meal. We will not be going back here.
Review Source:Yarmouth House is a beautiful restaurant, very cozy interior with the type of charm you expect of Cape Cod fine dining. There is always a long list of chef's specials that all sound great, I always have a difficult time deciding. Word to the wise: save room for dessert. The Yarmouth House brownie is one of the best, most decadent desserts I can think of, and totally worth the indulgence!
I have never had a problem with the service here, though the maitre'd is awfully standoffish. Our waitress the last time we were in (Gretchen) was a pleasure!
This was once a small-ish neighborhood restaurant just outside Hyannis. It has expanded about 4x the original size and can seat probably 200 diners at once. Â We walked in at 730pm during a busy summer night and 7 of us were seated. Â The service was good and the food was good. Â You get HUGE portions. Â The menu is a good mix of seafood, steaks and Italian. Â if you can't find something on this menu you don't like to eat - I remember it being several pages long.
The desserts are the high point - save room.
When all is said and done - the Yarmouth House does everything well but nothing really exceptional. Â Expect a good meal with reliable service. Â Given all the other dinning options in the area, I can't imagine people will "crave" coming to here. Â But if you do find yourself sitting at the table you probably won't be disappointed.
Recently, I've had the pleasure of dining at the Yarmouth House Restaurant. There is a warm and romantic setting inside the restaurant as there are dim lights and candles everywhere. There weren't many people dining that night. In fact, we were the only ones in our section which made our dinner more private and intimate. We ordered 3 appetizers:
scallops wrapped in bacon= good. scallops could be bigger.
mussels marinara= excellent. probably one of best i've had!
oysters rockerfella= we actually ordered the stuffed mushrooms but waitress goofed this up. we just took it when it came out to us...whatever ya know...but unfortunately, the oysters were no good, they didnt taste fresh at all....
for entrees:
chicken atlantis = it's chicken, lobster, and rice all together in one dish. i thought it was very tasty and creative.
chicken and butternut squash ravoli= didn't get to eat much of this as i was too busy with mine. the few bites i took seemed pretty good to me.
we also had a bottle of pino and worked well with all the seafood...when i got the bill, i thought it was worth it. i didn't think the meal was expensive at all. everyone who worked there seemed really nice too...service with a smile; sometimes it makes a huge difference.
After my parents recommendation my girlfriend and I decided to try this restaurant. Since it was a sat night we decided to make reservations, and drove about 40 mins to get there. As we pulled in to the parking lot the place was packed. No parking anywhere closeby, we ended up in one of their overflow lots that wasn't even paved, just sand. I took this to be a sign that the food was good, if it was that crowded. When we got inside to the waiting area, it was even worse, you had to step over people to get to the host station. I checked in with the host and told him we were a little early. He wrote my name down on the list and then just started doing something else, with no response, just leaving me standing there wondering if we would have to wait or if it was ok that we were early. Luckily we were seated within a few mins. The dining room was extremely loud and packed to the brim, tables almost on top of each other, with little room to walk thru. Â I ordered the twin stuffed lobsters $42, and my gf ordered the chicken oscar $20 and a pear martini. Â She took one sip of the martini and couldn't believe how bad it was. No flavor except for straight alcohol. She had to send it back. She didn't like her meal any better, but just ate what she could of it and didn't bother sending that back as well. The food was very quick tho, esp for how crowded it was. The stuffed lobster was overflowing with bread crumbs. I couldn't believe how much was on it, it was more than the meat itself. I had to scrape the majority of it off as it was overwhelming. Once I got down to the lobster it was very tasty. Looking back I should have just ordered the steamed lobster. After our waitress dropped off our dinners, we didn't see her again til we were almost done, but i cant' blame her because she was running around trying to attend to all her tables. It is just impossible to give the people the proper service when there are that many people. They either need to hire more help and expand the restaurant or limit the people going in, because it seems there are just trying to turn tables not give you a nice meal. There are so many other restaurants on the cape, i wouldn't bother going back here again.
Review Source:I have been coming here for years with my family. We really enjoying sitting in the water wheel room for dinner.
Our most recent visit we were unable to sit in that room, but still had a very nice time. The ambiance of the restaurant wasn't quite the same, but it is nice none the less. Our waiter was very nice, but very slow and didn't seem to have it together that evening. This is the first time I have had less then excellent service at the Yarmouth House. This didn't have an effect on our evening though as we were in no hurry.
I started out my meal with Roasted Duck Breast Hors d'Oeuvre, which was the special that night. It was a very nice dish, but they went a little heavy on the orange glaze for my taste. The duck was cooked perfectly though.
I had the Filet Mignon and Lobster special for my dinner. Everything about my this meal was perfect. The Filet was cook just how I ordered it and you can't go wrong with Lobster on the Cape.
Finished the meal with the Caramel Apple Crumbcake ... amazing!
We had a great night once again, even if the service and location in the restaurant wasn't great. We will be sure to return again.
Went in early on a Tuesday. The surroundings were very nice (inside and out) and I felt it was a good experience from the start. I went after the 2 1/2 lb stuffed lobster. It came stuffed with big sea scallops and nice sized shrimp in the cavity, a seasoned cracker crumb stuffing and mashed potatoes on the side. I definitely got a huge portion meal and it took a good long time to eat as well. We went to eat at 4-4:30, so it was pretty slow for them at the time. I finished everything with a little help from my wife and her friend. They had wonderful dishes as well. My wife had the lobster thermidor and her friend had the stuffed scallops. Her husband had the italian combo (special of lasagna and veal parm). I was worried that the dress code would be too strict, but it wasn't that harse. They ask for no tank tops, no cells and shoes are required. The price of my dinner was ~ $50, but what do you expect with a 2 1/2 pound lobster!? The other prices were very reasonable and the food and service was excellent. Just a side note, the specials come with coffee or tea and dessert, but you must ask for what dessert is offered with it. We assumed we could choose from the cart and were mistaken. The server asked if we wanted it to take with us, so that was good. None of us wanted to think of food again after eating all of that, so we declined and paying for the dessert after all wasn't a big deal. The server did not charge us for the coffee which came with the special and we had two servings, so we thought that more than made up for the dessert confusion. Great place to have a quiet, comfortable meal with friends and young adults. I would say it's a bit less accommodating to young children, but it does present itself as a more adult restaurant anyway. Make this place a definite stop on your vacation if you're in the area!!!
Review Source:Sort of sad to report a bad experience at The Yarmouth House. Â Last year, our group of six really enjoyed both the food and service. Â This year, neither was the case and it was truly disappointing.
Our server neglected our table and the food just wasn't as good as it had been the year before.  On our way out the manager asked one of the girls I was traveling with about  our dinner.  My friend expressed her concerns and it didn't really seem to achieve much.  Awkwardly, the server came over and put herself into the mix.
When we were leaving, another server heading to her car came up to say our waitress "sucked"... Â Which is pretty amusing. Â So maybe it was just that, but I'm not going back to find out if that was the case.
